Overview
Ambaji is a temple town in Banaskantha district of north Gujarat, set in the Arasur hills of the Aravalli range near the Rajasthan border. Its Ambaji Mata (Arasuri Amba) Temple is revered as one of the Shakti Peethas, where ancient belief holds that the heart of the goddess Sati rests; the temple has no idol, and a sacred Shree Yantra is worshipped as the goddess. Nearby Gabbar hill, climbed by 999 steps or by ropeway, is a further place of pilgrimage, and millions of devotees visit during the Bhadarvi Poonam fair.
