Overview
Somnath lies at Prabhas Patan, a locality of Veraval on the Saurashtra coast in Gujarat's Gir Somnath district, and has long been revered as the Somnath-Prabhasa tirtha. Its Somnath Temple is regarded as the first of Shiva's twelve Jyotirlingas; the present Chalukyan-style structure, completed in 1951, follows several rebuildings over the centuries.
