Overview
Nashik is a city on the Godavari in Maharashtra whose Panchavati area is associated with Rama, Sita and Lakshmana's exile in the Ramayana. It is one of the four sites of the Kumbh Mela, held here every 12 years as the Simhastha. Nearby Trimbak, about 28 km away in the Brahmagiri hills, has the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga, near which the Godavari is held to originate.
