Overview
Shirdi, also known as Sainagar, is a town in Rahata taluka of Ahmednagar (Ahilyanagar) district, Maharashtra, known as the home of the 19th-century saint Sai Baba. Sai Baba settled in Shirdi in the mid-1850s and came to be revered as a saint by both Hindu and Muslim devotees; after his death in 1918 his remains were interred at Buti Wada, which grew into the Shri Saibaba Samadhi Mandir. The temple complex, administered by the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust, also includes Dwarkamai, the old mosque in which he lived, and the town receives around 60,000 pilgrims a day.
