King Yudhishthira and his brothers were going on a long, long walk up a tall mountain toward heaven. Along the way, a little dog began to follow them, wagging its tail. The king smiled and let it come along. The dog stayed close the whole way, never running off, always loyal. At last they reached the shining gates of heaven. “Welcome, good king!” said a kind voice. “But the dog must stay outside.” The king shook his head. “This little friend walked all this way with me. I will not leave him behind.” Suddenly, the dog turned into a glowing being! “I was only testing your kind heart,” he said. “Well done!” And the king and his loyal friend went in together.
