Deep in the forest lived a kind old woman named Shabari. For many, many years she waited, hoping that one day Lord Rāma would visit her little hut. Every morning she swept the path and gathered fresh berries, just in case. At last, the happy day came — Rāma walked right up to her door! Shabari had no fancy food, only sweet forest berries. To make sure each one was nice and sweet, she carefully tasted them first, giving Rāma only the best ones. Rāma smiled and ate every berry with joy. He did not mind at all — he could see how much love was in her gift. “Thank you, dear Shabari,” he said warmly.
