Narada was a happy sage who loved to sing God’s name all day long. One day he thought, “I must be God’s very best friend, because I sing the most!” So gently, God gave him a little test. “Carry this bowl, full right to the top with oil, all around the town,” said God, “and don’t spill a single drop — and keep singing my name too!” Narada walked very, very carefully, watching the oil the whole time. He did not spill a drop! But when he came back, he said, “Oh! I was so busy watching the oil that I forgot to sing even once.” God smiled kindly. “See? Even a busy farmer remembers me twice a day.” Narada learned to be humble and gentle.
Being humble is part of being truly good.
