One day, Mother Pārvatī held up a sweet, shiny fruit. “Whoever goes around the whole world first wins it!” she said. Ganesha’s brother Kārtikeya hopped onto his fast peacock and zoomed away — over hills, over rivers, all around the earth! Little Ganesha looked at his tiny mouse. “We could never go that fast,” he thought. So he sat quietly and had a clever idea. He stood up, walked slowly around his mother and father, and gave them a big bow. “You are my whole world,” he said softly. Mother and Father smiled the biggest smiles. “What a wise boy!” And they gave the sweet fruit to Ganesha.
