A big, friendly elephant named Gajendra went to a cool lake for a drink of water. Splash! But under the water lived a crocodile, who gently grabbed Gajendra’s foot and held on tight. Gajendra pulled and pulled, but he could not get free. He grew very tired. Then Gajendra had a wise idea. With his trunk, he picked a pretty lotus flower, lifted it high to the sky, and called out, “Please help me, dear God!” Right away, Lord Vishnu came flying on his great bird and gently set Gajendra free.
