And it is never entirely asleep nor ever fully awake; let it be understood that the sky of consciousness alone is perceived as the world.
Liberation itself is the glory of creation, and the glory of creation itself is liberation; there is no difference in meaning between these two words, as with synonyms.
In ultimate reality, the form called 'world' perceives its own nature, just as the eye of a person with eye disease sees a hair or a speck.
There is nothing like a ball of hair; that perception remains thus. This is not an object seen, nor is this anything at all; thus, consciousness-space is established.
Everywhere, everything exists as experienced; nothing at all is here that is not experienced. This is peaceful, ever-present, and all-pervading; thus it remains, free from doubt and division—therefore, abide in this.
This form of the great consciousness is dense like a mountain cave, tranquil, and clear as the sky. There is neither existence nor non-existence in perception anywhere; whatever exists, that alone shines forth as good.
For the purpose of the rope, snake, and pot, at that very moment, requested by Yama's attendants, Yama spoke these words—listen, O descendant of Raghu.
When they undergo separation and hear their own story, then the ropes and others will certainly be released—without doubt.
Where, when, and how will they hear this account of their own story from you, O Lord? By whom will the sequence of the story, as narrated, be heard?
On the marshy banks of the great lotus lake in Kashmir, again and again, having experienced the succession of fish births,
Restless with unfulfilled desires, in time they will reach dissolution; there, in the lotus lake, they will become swans.
There, among garlands of water-lilies, clusters of lotuses, and the creepers of śevāla grass, where the waves curl and wind about—
On the swinging beds of white water-lilies, among the vines of blue lotuses, in the lines of clouds formed by masses of dewdrops, and in the cool swirling eddies—
The ornaments of the world, having enjoyed the delights of those lakes and waters, and having sported there for a long time, finally attained purity.
They, having attained union, will become separated for the sake of liberation, just as rajas, sattva, and tamas become distinct by chance.
Within the region of Kashmir, there will be a splendid city adorned with mountains, known by the name Adhiṣṭhāna.
In its midst will be a peak called Pradyumnaśikhara, a light summit of a lotus, like the wheel of its pericarp at the center.
On the summit of that mountain, some king will build his palace—a great mansion like a cloud-capped pine, a peak upon a peak.
In the northeastern corner of the house, at the base of the mountain wall, in its hollow, where the wind constantly stirs the marked blades of grass—
In the mansion, the demon Vyāla will become a sparrow, like a student with little learning, uttering meaningless cries.
At that very time and place, there will be a king named Śrī Yaśaskaradeva, like another Indra in heaven.
The demon named Dāma will become a mosquito in his house, making a soft sound in the crevice of a large pillar.
In that same formidable city called Adhiṣṭhāna, there will also be a monastery named Ratnāvalīvihāra.
There, the king's minister, known as Narasiṃha, will have the vision of bondage and liberation as clear as an amalaki fruit on the palm.
In his house, there will be a bird named Kaṭa, a magical demon, kept in a cage made of tamarind twigs as a plaything.
That minister Narasiṃha will narrate this story, composed in verses, about Dāma, Vyāla, Kaṭa, and others.
Hearing that story, Kaṭa the bird, recalling his own nature, will attain supreme liberation within, his false sense of self pacified.
The kalaviṅka bird, dwelling near the summit of Mount Pradyumna, will likewise, upon hearing its own story, attain supreme liberation.
Even the mosquito, residing in a wound within the firewood of the royal palace, will, by chance, hear this and reach peace.
Thus, O Raghava, the sparrow from Pradyumna’s peak, the mosquito from the royal palace, and the cricket from the garden will attain liberation.
