पुष्पभारपिनद्धाङ्गान् वृक्षान् पवनकम्पितान् । क्षीवान् इव मधुप्राप्तौ घूर्णन्मधुकरेक्षणान्
Trees shaken by the wind, their limbs weighed down by masses of flowers, appearing exhausted upon receiving honey, their bees swirling with restless eyes.
शैलराजश्रियं स्फीतां पश्यन्तौ ताव् इतस् ततः । प्राप्तवन्तौ वसुमतीं पुरपत्तनमण्डिताम्
Beholding the abundant splendor of the king of mountains, the two wandered here and there, and arrived at the earth adorned with cities and towns.
क्षणाद् अवापतुस् तत्र पुष्पलोलतरङ्गिणीम् । समङ्गां सरितं साधू सर्वपुष्पमयीम् इव
In a moment, they reached there a river whose waves played among flowers, beautiful and whole, as if entirely composed of blossoms.
ददर्शाथ तटे तस्याः कस्मिंश्चित् तनयं भृगुः । देहान्तरपरावृत्तं भावम् अन्यम् उपागतम्
Then, on its bank, Bhṛgu saw a certain youth who had turned away from his former body, having attained a different state of being.
शान्तेन्द्रियं समाधिस्थम् अचञ्चलमनोमृगम् । सुचिराद् इव विश्रान्तं सुचिरं श्रमशान्तये
His senses were tranquil, established in meditation, his mind steady and unmoving, as if he had rested for a long time, finding relief from prolonged fatigue.
चिन्तयन्तम् इवानन्ताश् चिरभुक्ताश् चिरोज्झिताः । संसारसागरगतीर् हर्षशोकनिरन्तराः
Those endless courses of worldly existence, filled with unceasing joy and sorrow, seem as if they are being contemplated—though long enjoyed, they have now been long abandoned.
नूनं निश्चलतां यातम् अतिभ्रमितचक्रवत् । अनन्तजगदावर्तविवर्तातिशयाद् इव
Surely, it has attained immovability, like a wheel that has spun excessively; as if due to the extraordinary turning of the infinite revolutions of the worlds.
एकान्तसंस्थितं कान्तं कान्त्यैकाकिनम् आश्रितम् । उपशान्तेहितं त्यक्तचित्तसम्भ्रमसङ्गमम्
He beheld him established in utter solitude, lovely, relying on his own radiance alone; his actions pacified, free from the agitation and confusion of the mind.
निर्विकल्पसमाधिस्थं विरतं द्वन्द्ववृत्तितः । हसन्तम् अखिला लोकगतीश् शीतलया धिया
Seated in the absorption beyond thought, withdrawn from the play of opposites, he beheld him smiling at all the courses of the worlds, with a mind cooled and serene.
विदिताखिलवृत्तान्तं विगताशेषकौतुकम् । निरस्तकल्पनाजालम् आलम्बितमहापदम्
He beheld him who knows all events, whose curiosity is entirely gone, who has dispelled the net of imagination, and who has taken refuge in the supreme state.
अनन्तविश्रान्तितते पदे विश्रान्तम् आत्मनि । प्रतिबिम्बम् अगृह्णन्तं सितं मणिम् इव स्थितम्
He saw him resting in the state of infinite repose, established in the Self, not grasping at reflections, like a pure crystal lying still.
हेयोपादेयसङ्कल्पविकल्पाभ्यां समुज्झितम् । सुप्रबुद्धमतिं धीरं ददर्श तनयं भृगुः
Freed from the dual notions of acceptance and rejection, with a mind fully awakened and steadfast, Bhrigu beheld his son.
तम् आलोक्य भृगोः पुत्रं कालो भृगुम् उवाच ह । वाक्यम् अब्धिध्वनिनिभं तव पुत्रस् त्व् असाव् इति
Seeing the son of Bhrigu, Time spoke to Bhrigu words resounding like the roar of the ocean: 'That is your son.'
विबुध्यताम् इति गिरा समाधेर् विरराम सः । भार्गवो ऽम्भोदघोषेण शनैर् इव शिखण्डभृत्
At the words, 'Awaken,' Bhārgava gradually emerged from samādhi, like the lord of birds rising at the sound of thunder.
उन्मील्य नेत्रे सो ऽपश्यद् अग्रे कालभृगू प्रभू । समोदयाव् इवायातौ देवौ शशिदिवाकरौ
Opening his eyes, he saw before him the two mighty Kālabhṛgus, radiant like the moon and sun appearing together.
कदम्बलतिकापीठाद् अथोत्थाय ननाम तौ । समं समागतौ कान्तौ विप्रौ हरिहराव् इव
Rising from his seat on the kadamba creeper bower, he bowed to them—those two handsome and noble brāhmaṇas, like Hari and Hara meeting together.
मिथः कृतसमाचाराश् शिलायां समुपाविशन् । मेरुपृष्ठे जगत्पूज्या ब्रह्मविष्णुहरा इव
Having exchanged greetings, they all sat together on a rock, revered like Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Hara on the summit of Meru.
अथ शान्ततपा नाम स समङ्गातटे द्विजः । ताव् उवाच वचश् शान्तम् अमृतस्यन्दसुन्दरम्
Then the brāhmaṇa named Śāntatapas, on the riverbank, addressed them with gentle words, sweet as a stream of nectar.
भवतोर् दर्शनेनाहम् अद्य निर्वृतिम् आगतः । समम् आगतयोर् लोकं शीतलोष्णरुचोर् इव
Today, by seeing you both, I have attained contentment, just as the world is gladdened when the cool moon and the warm sun appear together.
यो न शास्त्रैर् न तपसा न ज्ञानेन न विद्यया । विनष्टो मे मनोमोहः क्षीणो ऽसौ दर्शनेन वाम्
The delusion of my mind, which was not dispelled by scriptures, austerity, knowledge, or learning, has now faded by seeing you.
न तथा सुखयन्त्य् अन्तर् निर्मलामृतवृष्टयः । यथा प्रहर्षयन्त्य् एता महताम् एव दृष्टयः
The inner showers of pure nectar do not bring such joy as does the sight of the great ones.
चरणाभ्याम् इमं देशं भवन्तौ भूरितेजसौ । कौ पवित्रितवन्तौ नश् शशाङ्कार्काव् इवाम्बरम्
With your feet, you two, radiant with great splendor, have sanctified this land—just as the moon and sun purify the sky.
इत्य् उक्तवन्तं प्रोवाच भृगुर् जन्मान्तरात्मजम् । स्मरात्मानं प्रबुद्धो ऽसि नाज्ञो ऽसीति रघूद्वह
When he had spoken thus, Bhrigu addressed the son of his own former birth: 'Remember yourself—you are awakened, not ignorant, O best of the Raghu lineage.'
प्रबोधितो ऽसौ भृगुणा जन्मान्तरदशा निजाः । मुहूर्तमात्रं सस्मार ध्यानोन्मीलितलोचनः
Awakened by Bhrigu, he recalled his own states from previous births for a moment, his eyes opened in meditation.
अथासौ विस्मयस्मेरमुखो मुदितमानसः । वितर्कमन्थरां वाचम् उवाच वदतां वरः
Then, his face bright with wonder and a joyful heart, that best of speakers uttered words, slow with reflection.
जयत्य् अविरतारम्भा नियतिः परमात्मनः । यद्वशाद् इदम् आभोगि जगच्चक्रं विवर्तते
Victory to the ever-active power of destiny belonging to the Supreme Self, by whose command this world-wheel, full of enjoyment, revolves.
ममानन्तान्य् अतीतानि जन्मान्य् अविदितानि ह । तानि तान्तदशाढ्यानि संस्मृतान्य् उचितानि च
My past births are countless and unknown; those states, filled with their own experiences, have now been remembered as appropriate.
भुक्तानि बहुकार्याणि विचित्रविभवान्य् अति । दशाफलान्य् अनन्तानि कल्पान्तकलितानि च
I have enjoyed many pursuits and extraordinary fortunes, and countless results of various states, stretching to the ends of aeons.
दृष्टाः कठिनसंरम्भा विभवोपार्जनभ्रमाः । विहृतं वीतशोकासु चिरं मेरुस्थलीषु च
I have witnessed the harsh struggles and delusions of amassing wealth, and have long wandered, free of sorrow, even on the slopes of Meru.
पीतम् आमोदि मन्दारकुसुमारुणितं पयः । मन्दाकिन्यास् सकल्हारं तटेष्व् अमरभूभृतः
On the banks of the Mandakini, the gods drank fragrant milk tinged red by the blossoms of the heavenly coral tree, along with all kinds of delicacies.
