सेत्य् उक्त्वा मुमुचे जीवम् आमोदम् इव पद्मिनी । स समीरलवाकारस् तन्नासानिकटं ययौ
Having said this, she released her vital breath like a lotus its fragrance; it took the form of a breeze and went to his nostrils.
घ्राणकोशं विवेशाशु वंशरन्ध्रम् इवानिलः । स्ववासनाशतान्य् अन्तर् दधद् अब्धिर् मणीन् इव
Swiftly it entered the cavity of his nose, like wind through a bamboo hollow, carrying hundreds of its own impressions within, as the ocean holds gems.
अन्तस्स्थजीवं वदनं तस्य तत्कान्तिम् आययौ । पद्मस्यावग्रहे पद्मं प्रविष्टम् इव वारिणि
The radiance of the life within him shone forth from his face, just as a lotus appears to be entered by another lotus in water when its reflection is seen.
क्रमाद् अङ्गानि सर्वाणि सरसानि चकाशिरे । तस्य पुष्पाकर इव लताजालानि बूभृतः
Gradually, all his limbs gleamed with beauty, like clusters of flowers on the earth, or like networks of vines upon a hill.
अथाबभौ कलापूर्णस् स राकायाम् इवोडुराट् । भासयन् भवनं भूरि वदनेन्दुमरीचिभिः
Then he appeared, full of splendor, like the moon at its fullest, illuminating the dwelling with abundant rays from his moon-like face.
स्फारयाम् आस सो ऽङ्गानि रसवन्ति मृदूनि च । कनकोज्ज्वलकान्तीनि पल्लवानीव माधवः
He expanded his limbs, which were soft and full of vitality, shining with golden brilliance like fresh shoots in spring.
उन्मीलयम् आस दृशौ विमलालोककारणे । हारिण्यौ सुभगाभोगे चन्द्रार्कौ भुवनं यथा
He opened his eyes, which were the source of pure light, charming in their beauty, like the moon and sun illuminating the world.
उत्तस्थौ प्रोल्लसत्कायो विन्ध्याद्रिर् इव वृद्धिमान् । उवाच कस् स्थित इह प्रभाकपिशितालयः
He rose up, his body radiant, like the mighty Vindhya mountain growing in stature, and spoke: 'Who stands here, dwelling in this abode of shining brilliance?'
लीलाद्वयम् अथास्याग्रे प्रोवाचादिश्यताम् इति । स ददर्श पुरो नम्रं लीलाद्वयम् अवस्थितम्
Then, before him, the duality of play spoke, saying, 'Let it be commanded.' He saw, standing humbly before him, the duality of play.
समाधारं समाकारं समरूपं समस्थिति । समवाक्यं समोद्योगं समानन्दं समोदयम्
It was of equal support, equal form, equal appearance, equal speech, equal effort, equal joy, and equal arising.
का त्वं केयं कुतश् चेयम् इत्य् आह स विलोकयन् । तस्मै लीलाह हे देव श्रूयतां यद् वदाम्य् अहम्
Observing her, he asked: 'Who are you? Who is this? Where has she come from?' To him, Lila replied: 'O lord, listen to what I am about to say.'
महिला तव लीलाहं प्राक्तनी सह वर्धिता । वाग् अर्थस्येव संसक्ता स्थिता संश्लेषशालिनी
'O Lila, I am your wife, grown up with you from before; closely united, abiding with you like speech with its meaning.'
इयं लीला द्वितीया ते महिला हेलया मया । उपार्जिता त्वदर्थेन कथयिष्ये ऽहम् ईदृशम्
'This is your second wife, Lila, whom I have lightly acquired for your sake; I shall tell you how this came to be.'
शिरोभागोपविष्टेयं येह हेममहासना । एषा सरस्वती देवी त्रैलोक्यजननी शिवा
'She who is seated at the head, upon the great golden throne here—she is the goddess Sarasvati, the auspicious mother of the three worlds.'
अस्माकं पुण्यसंभारैर् इह साक्षाद् उपागता । अनयासि पराल् लोकाद् इहानीतो महीपतिः
'By the merit we have accumulated, she has appeared here directly; by her, O king, you have been brought here from another world.'
इत्य् आकर्ण्य समुत्थाय राजा राजीवलोचनः । लम्बमाल्याम्बरधरः पपात ज्ञप्तिपादयोः
Hearing this, the lotus-eyed king arose, adorned with hanging garlands and garments, and fell at the feet of the goddess of wisdom.
सरस्वति नमस् तुभ्यं सर्वलोकहितप्रदे । प्रयच्छ वरदे मेधां दीर्घम् आयुर् धनानि च
'O Sarasvati, I bow to you, bestower of benefit to all worlds; O giver of boons, grant me wisdom, long life, and wealth.'
इत्य् उक्तवन्तं हस्तेन पस्पर्श ज्ञप्तिदेवता । त्वं पुत्राभिमतार्थाढ्यो भवेति वचनान्वितः
As he spoke thus, the goddess of wisdom touched him with her hand, saying: 'May you be endowed with sons and all desired things.'
सर्वापदस् सकलदुष्कृतदृष्टयश् च गच्छन्तु वश् शमम् अनन्तसुखानि सम्यक् । आयान्तु नित्यमुदिता जनता भवन्तु राष्ट्रे स्थिराश् च विलसन्तु सदैव लक्ष्म्यः
May all misfortunes and the sight of every evil deed depart; may endless joys come fully; may the people always be cheerful; may the nation be secure, and may prosperity ever shine forth.
सरस्वती तदेत्युक्त्वा तत्रैवान्तर्धिम् आययौ । प्रभाते पङ्कजैस् सार्धं बुबुधे सकलो जनः
Sarasvati, having said this, vanished right there; in the morning, all the people awoke together with the lotuses.
आलिलिङ्ग घनं लीलां लीला च दयितं क्रमात् । पुनः पुनर् महानन्दो मृतप्रोज्जीवितो नृपः
Lila embraced her beloved in play, and in turn he embraced her; again and again, the king, revived from death, experienced great joy.
तदासीद् राजसदनं मदमन्मथमन्थरं । आनन्दमत्तजनतं वाद्यगेयरवाकुलम्
At that time, the royal palace was filled with people intoxicated by joy and love, resounding with the tumult of music and song.
जयमङ्गलपुण्याहघोषघुङ्घुमघर्घरम् । हृष्टपुष्टजनाकीर्णराजलोकवृताङ्गनम्
There was the deep, reverberating sound of victory, auspiciousness, and blessedness; the palace was crowded with delighted, well-nourished people, surrounded by the royal assembly and its women.
सिद्धविद्याधरोन्मुक्तपुष्पवर्षसशीत्कृतम् । ध्वनन्मृदङ्गमुरजकाहलाशङ्खदुन्दुभि
The air was cooled by showers of flowers released by Siddhas and Vidyadharas; the sound of drums, mridangas, murajas, kahalas, conches, and dundubhis resounded.
ऊर्ध्वीकृतबृहद्धस्तहास्तिकस्तनितोत्कटम् । उत्तालताण्डवस्त्रैणपूर्णाङ्गनलसद्ध्वनि
The great elephants raised their broad trunks high, thundering fiercely; the halls were filled with the loud sounds of vigorous tandava dances and the clapping of women's hands.
मिथस्सङ्घट्टनिपतन्नानोपायनदन्तुरम् । पुष्पशेखरसम्भारमयस्रग्दामसुन्दरम्
There was the commotion of people meeting, presenting various gifts, and the beauty of garlands and flower-crowns assembled together.
विकीर्णपाटितक्षौमं मन्त्रिसामन्तनागरैः । स्थलपद्ममयं व्योम रक्तैस् ताण्डविनीकरैः
The sky, strewn with torn linen by ministers, vassals, and citizens, became like a field of lotuses, reddened by the groups of dancers.
मत्तस्त्रीकन्धरावृत्तलीलान्दोलितकुण्डलम् । प्रनृत्तपादसम्पातप्रोन्नमत्पुष्पकर्दमम्
The air was filled with the swinging earrings of intoxicated women, their necks arched in play, and the dust of flowers rose from the stamping feet of the dancers.
पटवासशरन्मेघवितानकवितानितम् । वराङ्गनामुखैर् नृत्यच्चन्द्रलक्ष्यगृहाजिरम्
The canopy of clouds, like a tent of woven cloth, was adorned by the faces of noble women, dancing and shining like the moon in the courtyards of palaces.
परलोकाद् उपानीतो राज्ञात्मा पतिर् एव च । इत्य् एवं वृत्तगाथाभिर् जगुर् देशान्तरे जनाः
People in distant lands sang ballads of how the king and his very soul, his beloved, had been brought back from the other world.
