अभिसारजदार्वाकाः पल्लोलुकचिरोडुनाः । किराताः पशुपालाश् च चीनास् स्वर्णमही ततः
Abhisāras, Jadārvākas, Pallolukas, Ciroḍunas, Kirātas, cowherds, Cīnas, and then the land of gold.
देवस्थलोपवनभूस् तदनूदितश्रीर् विश्वावसोस् तदनु मन्दिरम् उत्तमर्द्धि । कैलासभूस् तदनु मुञ्जवनश् च शैलो विद्याधरामरविहारविमानभूमिः
The devasthala groves, the lands mentioned by Viśvāvasu, then the temple of supreme prosperity, the land of Kailāsa, then the Muñja forest, the mountain, the realm of Vidyādharas, and the celestial palaces of the gods.
रणे रभसनिर्लूननरवारणदारुणे । अहं पूर्वम् अहं पूर्वम् इति वृन्दानुपातिनि
In battle, fierce and terrible, where men and elephants are violently struck down, each one says, 'I will go first, I will go first,' and falls in groups.
एते चान्ये च बहवस् तत्र भस्मत्वम् आगताः । प्रविशन्तः प्रयत्नेन शलभा इव पावके

पारियात्राः कुराढ्यश् च यामुनोडुम्बरा अपि । गजाह्वा उज्जिहानाश् च कालकोटिकमाथुराः
The Pariyatras, Kuradhyas, Yamunodumbaras, Gajahvas, Ujjihanas, Kalakotikas, and Mathuras—
कपोलधर्मारण्याश् च तथैवोत्तरदक्षिणाः । पाञ्चालकाः कुरुक्षेत्रास् तथा सारस्वता जनाः
The Kapolas, Dharmaranyas, as well as the northern and southern peoples, Panchalas, Kurukshetras, and the Sarasvata people—
अवन्तीस्यन्दनश्रेणीकुन्तैः पञ्चनदेरिताः । स्यन्दमाना विद्रवन्ती निपपात महाभृगौ
The Avantis, Syandanas, Shrenis, Kuntas, and those from the five rivers, all fleeing in streams, fell upon the great mountain.
काशा ब्रह्मावसाताश् च छिन्नास् साम्बवतीजनैः । भूमौ निपतितास् सन्तो मथिता मत्तवारणैः
The Kashas and Brahmavasatas were cut down by the Sambavati people; fallen to the ground, they were trampled by maddened elephants.
शूरा दशपुराश् शस्त्रैर् निकृत्तोदारकन्धराः । तारक्षतिभिर् आक्रम्य योजिता योजने ह्रदे
The brave men of Dashapura, their abdomens and necks severed by weapons, were struck down by the Tarakshatis and cast into a lake a yojana wide.
ऋष्यकारुरुकच्छाश् च शैव्यशङ्कुशताङ्किताः । पङ्किले पङ्कतां याता भूतले सैन्यमर्दनैः
The Ṛṣyaka, Kārūruka, and Kaccha warriors, marked with the emblems of Śaivya and Śaṅku, became covered in mud on the battlefield, trampled down by the armies.
वनवासोपगिरयो ऽनिलये निलयार्थिनः । परितः परिधावन्तः पतिता यमुनाह्रदे
Those seeking shelter ran all around the forested slopes and hills, but fell into the waters of the Yamunā.
दीर्णोदरविनिर्यातस्वान्त्रतन्त्रीनियन्त्रिताः । रात्रिकाश् शान्तसञ्चाराः पिशाचैश् चर्विता निशि
With their bellies torn open and entrails exposed, their movements stilled by the night, the corpses were gnawed by ghouls in the darkness.
उद्रवैर् भद्रगिरिभिस् सङ्ग्रामाध्वनि दीक्षितैः । क्षोणीगर्तेषु निक्षिप्ता रसलाः कमला इव
Some, struck down in battle by the noble Bhadragiri warriors, were cast into the earth’s pits like lotus stalks into a pond.
विद्रुत्येव द्रवद्रक्ता विद्रावितमहारथाः । दण्डकान्त्रानिलोद्धूता हेहया हरिणा इव
Their blood flowed as if melting, their great charioteers routed and scattered, swept away by the wild winds of Daṇḍaka, like the Hehayas by Hari.
दन्तिदन्तविनिर्भिन्ना दारदा दलितारयः । नीता रक्तमहानद्या द्रुमाणां पल्लवा इव
Split apart by the tusks of elephants, their enemies crushed and broken, they were carried away in the great river of blood like tender shoots of trees.
नाराचैश् चर्विताश् चीना जीर्णजर्जरजीविताः । जहुर् जलनिधौ देहान् भारभूतान् अवस्थितान्
Chewed by arrows, their lives worn and shattered, the Cīna warriors abandoned their bodies—burdens to the earth—into the ocean.
कर्णाटसुभटोड्डीनकुन्तकर्तितकन्दराः । तेरुर् आभीरशूराः खे तारकानिकरा इव
The valiant Ābhīra heroes, their caves pierced by the spears of the mighty warriors of Karṇāṭa and Oḍḍīna, perished in the sky like clusters of stars.
करीन्द्रमकरव्यूहरंहसाहतहेतयः । केशाकेशिकृतारम्भा विनेमुर् दशकाश् शकाः
The Śaka warriors, who had set forth with the strength of elephants and crocodiles, their cause overpowered by the swift assault, bowed down, their hair entangled with the hair of their foes.
दशार्णाद् आशनिर् मुक्तशृङ्खला जालभीरवः । निलीना रक्तजम्बाले वैतस्तास् तिमयो यथा
From Daśārṇa, the thunderbolt, having broken its chains, terrifying as a net of Bhairava, hid itself in the red clouds, just as the Vaitastā river disappears in the sea.
गूर्जरानीकनाशेन गूर्जरीकेशलुञ्छनम् । विहितं तङ्गनोत्तुङ्गशितशङ्कुशतेरणैः
With the destruction of the Gurjara army, the hair of the Gurjara women was shorn by the sharp, towering spears of the Taṅgaṇa warriors.
सिषिचुश् शस्त्रकाषोद्यद्विद्युद् द्यौनिर्गता द्रवात् । शरधारावनानीव मीनहेतिप्रदाम्बुदात्
Weapons, shining like lightning, poured forth from the sky, flowing swiftly, like streams of arrows from a cloud, causing devastation among the armies as fish are struck by a torrent.
भुसुण्डीमण्डलोद्द्योतश्यामार्कोत्पातभीरुषु । आभीरेष्व् अरयः पेतुर् गोगणा हरितेष्व् इव
Among the Ābhīras, who were terrified by the dark, ominous flight of the Bhusuṇḍī birds, the enemies fell as herds of cows collapse on green pastures.
कान्तकाञ्चनकान्ताङ्गी नग्ना तङ्गनवाहिनी । भुक्ता गौडभटेनाङ्गनखकेशनिकर्षणैः
The Taṅgaṇa river, adorned with women whose bodies shone like gold and who were naked, was ravaged by the Gauḍa soldiers, their nails and hair torn in the struggle.
रणद्गगनगासज्जचक्रिचक्रविकर्तनैः । तङ्गनाः कणशः कीर्णाः कङ्कगृद्ध्रेषु रुद्रकैः
The Taṅgaṇa warriors were scattered in fragments by the circling, cutting disks of the flying wheels in the tumultuous sky, and the vultures and kites, fierce as Rudras, devoured them.
लगुडालोडनोड्डीनं गौडं गुडगुडारवम् । श्रुत्वा गान्धारगावोग्रे दुद्रुवुः प्रमिता इव
Hearing the loud, rumbling uproar of the Gauḍa warriors, who were brandishing clubs and leaping about, the Gandhāra cows, seized with terror, fled as if measured and counted.
आकाशगार्णवप्रख्यो वहच्छस्त्रकदम्बकः । अकरोद् पारसीकानां घननैशतमोभ्रमम्
A mass of whirling weapons, vast as the sky and the ocean, created for the Persians a darkness dense as night.
मन्दराहननोड्डीनखस्थक्षीरोदसुन्दरे । वनालीवायुधान्य् आसञ् छत्त्रप्रालेयसानुनि
Weapons, beautiful as the churning of the ocean by the mountain Mandara, were scattered like a garland of trees upon the snowy slopes, resembling a line of missiles.
