मतिमान् नाम शैलेन्द्रः क्षुरार्पणगिरिस् तथा । वनौकहा मेघवांश् च चक्रवान् अस्तपर्वतः
There is the mountain called Matiman, also Kshurarpana, and likewise Vanaukaha, Meghavan, Chakravan, and Astaparvata.
जनाः पञ्चनदा नाम काशा ब्रह्मावसातकाः । तथैव तारक्षतयः पारवाश् शान्तिकास् तथा
The people called Panchanada, Kasha, Brahmavasataka, as well as Tarakshata, Parava, and Shantika.
पार्श्वे वतकपोक्राणां गिरिवानवमास् तथा । सन्त्यक्तधर्ममर्यादास् ते ऽधमा म्लेच्छजातयः
Beside the Vatakapokra are the Girivana and Avama; those who have abandoned the boundaries of righteousness are the low-born Mlecchas.
ततो जनपदा भूमिर् योजनानां शतद्वयम् । ततो महेन्द्रशिखरी मुक्ता मणिमयावनिः
Then there is a region of land extending two hundred yojanas; after that, the peak of Mahendra, adorned with pearls and gems.
वृतो महीधरशतैर् अथास्तो नाम पर्वतः । ततो महार्णवो भीमाः पारियात्रगिरेस् तटे
Surrounded by hundreds of mountains stands the Astona mountain; then, on the shore of the Pariyatra mountain, are the vast and terrible oceans.
पश्चिमोत्तरदिग्भागे देशो गिरिमतिस् स्थितः । तथा वेणुमतिश् चैव ततस् तुरमतिर् मही
In the western and northern directions lies the region of Girimati; likewise, Venumati, and then Turamati land.
तथा फल्गुनकाश् चैव माण्डव्या एकनेत्रकाः । पुरुकुन्दास् तुखाराश् च तालमल्ललहावहाः
Also Phalgunaka, Mandavya, Ekanetraka, Purukunda, Tukhara, Talamalla, and Lahavaha.
वन्दिला नविला वाला दीर्घकेशाङ्गबाहवः । रङ्गाः खमूनिकाः कम्पा गुरुहाश् चारुहास् तथा
Vandila, Navila, Vala, those with long hair and strong limbs; Ranga, Khamunika, Kampa, Guruha, and Aruhas as well.
ततस् स्त्रीराज्यम् अतुलं गोवृषापत्यभाजनम् । अथोत्तरस्यां हिमवान् काञ्जो ऽथ मधुमान् गिरिः
Then, the kingdom of women, unmatched, a place for the offspring of cows and bulls; and in the north, the Himalaya, the Kān̄ja mountain, and the Madhumān mountain.
कैलासो वसुमान् मेरुस् तत्पथेषु जना इमे । मद्रपौरवयौधेया मालवाश् शूरसेनकाः
Kailāsa, Vasumān, and Meru are there; along those paths dwell people such as the Madras, Pauravas, Yaudheyas, Mālavas, and Śūrasenas.
राजन्याश् च तथाश्विन्या अर्जुनावनयस् तथा । त्रिगर्तकेकयः क्षुद्रमाचेलाश्चूस्तवासिनः
Likewise, the royal clans, the Aśvins, the descendants of Arjuna; the Trigartas, Kekayas, the small Mācelas, and the Cūstavas who reside there.
अम्बलाः प्रस्थलाश् शाकाः क्षेमधूर्तय एव च । अन्तरद्वीपगान्धारस् तथा वन्दिवटस्तवः
Ambalas, Prasthalas, Śākas, and the Kṣemadhūrtas as well; those from Antaradvīpa, Gandhāras, and the Vandivaṭastavas.
अथ तक्षशिला नाम ततो ऽपि लवणावती । पुष्कलावतिदेशश् च यशोवतिमही ततः
Then, the city called Takṣaśilā, and next Lavaṇāvatī; the region of Puṣkalāvatī, and then the land of Yaśovatī.
ततो मणिमती भूमिश् श्यामाका खचरास् तथा । दाशदाना गव्यसना दण्डहव्यसनास् तथा
After that, the land of Maṇimatī, the Śyāmākās, and the Khacaras; the Dāśadānas, Gavyasanas, and likewise the Daṇḍahavyasanas.
दानदाश् शूरकाश् चैव वाटाधारास् तथैव च । कोहकं नगरं चैव सुरभूतिपुरं तथा
The Dānadās, the Śūrakās, and also the Vāṭādhāras; the city of Kohaka and likewise Surabhūtipura.
ततो वै तटकादर्शा दन्तुरादर्श एव च । ततः पिण्डलमालव्ययायनेयाभिधानकाः
Then, the Taṭakādarśas, and the Danturādarśas as well; after that, the Piṇḍalamālas, the Vyāyaneyas, and the Ābhidhānakas.
मालहाला हूनहेमतालाश्वास् स्वमुखास् तथा । हिमवान् वसुमान् कौञ्जः कैलासश् चेत्यगास् तथा
Mālahālā, Hūna, Hematāla, Āśvāsa, Svamukha, and likewise Himavān, Vasumān, Kauñja, and Kailāsa, and also the city of Ayut.
ततो जनपदा भूमिर् अशीतिशतयोजना । अथ प्रागुत्तरस्यां त्वम् इमाञ् जनपदाञ् शृणु
Then the land of the people extends for eighty hundred yojanas; now, in the northeast, listen to these peoples.
कौलूता ब्रह्मपुत्राश् च कुविन्दाश् च दिनादनाः । मडवा नष्टराज्याश् च वनराष्ट्रास् तथैव च
Kaulūtas, Brahmaputras, Kuvindas, Dinādanas, Maḍavas, those whose kingdoms are lost, and likewise the forest realms.
कैडभल्लास् सिंहपुरास् तथा चामवतङ्गनाः । सार्पातकाः पार्वतकाः कश्मीरा दरदास् तथा
Kaiḍabhallas, Siṃhapuras, and also Cāmavataṅganas, Sārpātakas, Pārvatakas, Kaśmīras, and likewise Daradas.
अभिसारजदार्वाकाः पल्लोलुकचिरोडुनाः । किराताः पशुपालाश् च चीनास् स्वर्णमही ततः
Abhisāras, Jadārvākas, Pallolukas, Ciroḍunas, Kirātas, cowherds, Cīnas, and then the land of gold.
देवस्थलोपवनभूस् तदनूदितश्रीर् विश्वावसोस् तदनु मन्दिरम् उत्तमर्द्धि । कैलासभूस् तदनु मुञ्जवनश् च शैलो विद्याधरामरविहारविमानभूमिः
The devasthala groves, the lands mentioned by Viśvāvasu, then the temple of supreme prosperity, the land of Kailāsa, then the Muñja forest, the mountain, the realm of Vidyādharas, and the celestial palaces of the gods.
रणे रभसनिर्लूननरवारणदारुणे । अहं पूर्वम् अहं पूर्वम् इति वृन्दानुपातिनि
In battle, fierce and terrible, where men and elephants are violently struck down, each one says, 'I will go first, I will go first,' and falls in groups.
एते चान्ये च बहवस् तत्र भस्मत्वम् आगताः । प्रविशन्तः प्रयत्नेन शलभा इव पावके
These and many others there have come to ashes, entering with effort like moths into a flame.
अत्रान्ये मध्यदेशीया जना नोदाहृता मया । तान् इमाञ् शृणु वक्ष्यामि पक्ष्यांल् लीलामहीभृतः

उद्देहिकाश् शूरसेना गुडा अश्वत्थनीपकाः । उत्तमज्योतिकद्राणि पदमध्यमिकादयः
The Uddehikas, Shurasenas, Gudas, Ashvatthanipakas, Uttamajyotikadras, Padamadhyamikas, and others—
साल्वकाः केतका मत्स्या दौलेयककपिष्टलाः । माण्डव्यपाण्डुनगरसौरग्रीवा गुरुग्रहाः
The Salvakas, Ketakas, Matsyas, Dauleyakas, Kapishtalas, Mandavyapandunagaras, Sauragrivas, and Gurugrahas—
पारियात्राः कुराढ्यश् च यामुनोडुम्बरा अपि । गजाह्वा उज्जिहानाश् च कालकोटिकमाथुराः
The Pariyatras, Kuradhyas, Yamunodumbaras, Gajahvas, Ujjihanas, Kalakotikas, and Mathuras—
कपोलधर्मारण्याश् च तथैवोत्तरदक्षिणाः । पाञ्चालकाः कुरुक्षेत्रास् तथा सारस्वता जनाः
The Kapolas, Dharmaranyas, as well as the northern and southern peoples, Panchalas, Kurukshetras, and the Sarasvata people—
अवन्तीस्यन्दनश्रेणीकुन्तैः पञ्चनदेरिताः । स्यन्दमाना विद्रवन्ती निपपात महाभृगौ
The Avantis, Syandanas, Shrenis, Kuntas, and those from the five rivers, all fleeing in streams, fell upon the great mountain.
