हेतिवर्षाशनिच्छिन्नभूतभूतलभूधरः । गजराजगिरिव्रातपातपिष्टजनव्रजः
Rain of weapons and thunder split the earth and mountains, and crowds of people were crushed by falling elephants and groups of hills.
शरधाराधरानीकमेघच्छन्नमहीनभः । महानीकार्णवक्षोभसङ्घट्टकठिनारवः
Lines of arrows formed clouds over the army, covering earth and sky, and the clash of great forces stirred the ocean with a harsh roar.
व्याप्त उग्रानिलोद्धूतैर् जलव्यालानलाचलैः । अन्योऽन्यदलनव्यग्रैर् अस्त्रोत्पातफलोत्थितैः
Filled with fierce winds, stirred by waters, serpents, fires, and mountains, each absorbed in destroying the other, arising from the effects of weapons and calamities.
शूलासिचक्रशरशक्तिगदाभुसुण्डीप्रासादयो विदलनेन मिथो ध्वनन्तः । दीप्ता दधुर् दशदिशं शतशो भ्रमन्तः कल्पान्तवातपरिवृत्तपदार्थलीलाम्
Spears, swords, discs, arrows, darts, maces, clubs, and javelins resounded as they struck each other; blazing, they whirled by the hundreds in all ten directions, enacting the drama of the world's end, swept by the storm of dissolution.
अथ शृङ्गोपमानेषु स्थितेषु शवरादिषु । गङ्गातुल्यासु जातासु वहद्रक्तनदीषु च

महतां धर्मनिष्ठानां शीलौजस्सत्त्वशालिनाम् । शुद्धानां कुलपद्मानां वीराणाम् अनिवर्तिनाम्
Among the great ones devoted to righteousness, endowed with virtue, strength, and purity, lotus-born from noble families, heroes who never turned back.
द्वन्द्वयुद्धानि जातानि मेघानाम् इव गर्जताम् । मिथो निगरणोत्कानि मिलत्सागरपूरवत्
Duels arose, thundering like clouds, eager for mutual destruction, surging like the meeting of oceans.
सपञ्जरः पञ्जरिणा गजौघेन गजोच्चयः । सवनस् सवनेनाद्रिर् अद्रिणेवामिलद् बलात्
The cage, with its birds, was shaken by the herd of elephants, just as a mountain is shaken by another mountain in a violent collision.
अश्वौघो ऽमिलद् अश्वानां वृन्देनाराविरंहसा । तरङ्गोघेन घोरेण तरङ्गोघ इवार्णवे
A troop of horses clashed with a troop of horses, with a tumultuous uproar, like a fierce wave meeting another wave in the ocean.
नरानीको नरानीकं समायुधम् अयोधयत् । वेण्वौघम् इव वेण्वौघो मरुल्लोलो मरुच्चलम्
A battalion of men fought with another battalion, both equally armed, like a mass of reeds striking another mass of reeds, or a surging wind agitating another gust.
रथौघश् च रथौघेन निष्पिपेषाखिलं वपुः । नगरं नगरेणेव दैवेनोड्डीनम् अम्बरम्
A mass of chariots crushed another mass of chariots, destroying all forms, like a city colliding with another city, or the sky hurled by fate.
सरच्छरभरासाररचितापूर्ववारिदम् । युयुधे स्थगिताकाशा धनुर्धरपताकिनी

विषमायुधयुद्धेषु योद्धारः पेलवाशयाः । यदा युक्त्या पलायन्ते रणकल्पानले तदा

Those bearing discs joined with other disc-bearers; bowmen with bowmen; sword-fighters with sword-fighters; and slingers with slingers.
मुसुलैर् मुसुलोद्धाराः कुन्तिनः कुन्तधारिभिः । ऋष्ट्यायुधा ऋष्टिधरैः प्रासिभिः प्रासपाणयः
Those wielding maces fought with mace-wielders; spear-men with spear-men; those armed with javelins with other javelin-bearers; and those holding lances with lance-holders.
समुद्गरा मुद्गरिभिस् सगदैर् विलसद्गदाः । प्रासमार्गविदः प्रासैः परशूत्काः परश्वधैः
Some wielded maces with iron clubs, others shone with maces and clubs; some, skilled in the use of spears, held spears, while others, adept with axes, bore axes.
लगुडौघैर् लगुडिन उपलैर् उपलायुधाः । पाशिभिः पाशपरमाश् शङ्कुभिश् शङ्कुधारिणः
Some carried many staffs, being staff-bearers; others had stones as their weapons, being stone-armed; some were foremost with nooses, and others held spikes, being spike-bearers.
क्षुरिकाभिस् सक्षुरिका भिण्डिपालैश् च तद्भृतः । वज्रमुष्टिधरास् तत्स्थैर् अङ्कुशैर् अङ्कुशोद्धृताः
Some bore daggers, being dagger-wielders, and others held slings, being sling-bearers; some stood with thunderbolt-fists, and others brandished goads, being goad-wielders.
हलैर् हलनिकाषज्ञास् त्रिशूलैश् च त्रिशूलिनः । शृङ्खलाजालिनो जालैश् शार्ङ्खलैर् अलिकोमलैः
Some held ploughs, being skilled in ploughing, and others tridents, being trident-bearers; some were adorned with chains and nets, and others with garlands of gentle creepers.
शाक्तीकैश् शक्तियोद्धारश् शूलैश् शूलविशारदाः । क्षुभिताः कल्पविक्षुब्धसागरोर्मिघटा इव
Some fought with spears, being skilled in spear-combat, and others with lances, being adept with lances; they were agitated like waves of the ocean stirred by the end of an age.
क्षुब्धश् चक्रजलावर्तैश् शरशीकरमारुतैः । प्रभ्रमद्धेतिमकरो व्योमैकार्णव आबभौ
Disturbed by the whirling eddies of discus-weapons and the wind of arrow-showers, the sky appeared like a single ocean, with crocodiles of spinning missiles.
उत्फालायुधकल्लोलस् सेनाकुलजलेचरः । रोधोरन्ध्रसमुद्रो ऽसौ बभूवामरदुस्तरः

पूर्वस्यां काशिमगधाः कोसला मिथिलोत्कलाः । मेकलाः कवटाः पुण्ड्रास् तथौण्ड्रास् समगौडकाः
In the east are the Kāśis, Magadhas, Kosalas, Mithilas, Utkalas, Mekalas, Kavaṭas, Puṇḍras, as well as the Auṇḍras and the united Gauḍakas.
द्रिमयो मद्रसुह्माश् च ताम्रलिप्तास् तथैव च । प्राग्ज्योतिषा वाजिमुखा अम्बष्ठाः पुरुषादकाः
There are the Drimayas, Madras, Suhmas, and likewise the Tāmraliptas; also the Prāgjyotiṣas, Vājimukhas, Ambaṣṭhas, and Puruṣādas.
कर्णाक्षष्ठा अविश्रोत्रा आममीनाशनास् तथा । व्याघ्रवक्त्राः किराताश् च शवरा एकपादकाः
There are the Karṇākṣas, Aviśrotras, those who eat raw fish, the Vyāghravaktras, Kirātas, Śavaras, and the Ekapādas.
