लक्षयोजनविस्तीर्णाम् आकीर्णां च रजोलवैः । नानाजनपदव्यूहस्थिरावश्यायशीकराम्
Spread across a hundred thousand yojanas, crowded with dust particles, and made steady by the arrangement of many regions, it is moistened by dew.
द्वीपात् तु द्विगुणं सालं लवणार्णवलेखया । दधत्या वलितां बाह्ये प्रकोष्ठम् इव कम्बुना
Beyond the continent, twice its size, lies a ring traced by the salt ocean, encircling it outwardly like a curved forearm.
ततो ऽपि द्विगुणं देहं दधत्या वलयाकृतिम् । जगद्भुजलताव्याप्तां शाकाख्यद्वीपलेखया
Beyond that, twice its size again, is a ring in the shape of a bracelet, filled with the waters of the Śākadvīpa, spreading like the tendrils of the world.
ततो ऽपि द्विगुणाकारधारिण्या परिवेष्टिताम् । प्रत्यग्रक्षीरपूर्णाब्धिलेखया स्वादुशीतया
Beyond that, again twice the size, it is surrounded by a ring filled with fresh, cool milk-ocean.
ततो ऽपि द्विगुणाकारधारिण्या परिवेष्टिताम् । नानाजनालङ्कृतया कुशाख्यद्वीपलेखया
Beyond that, again twice the size, it is encircled by a ring adorned with many peoples, known as the Kuśadvīpa.
ततो ऽपि द्विगुणाकारं धारयन्त्या विवेष्टिताम् । दध्यब्धिलेखया नित्यं सन्तर्पितसुरौघया
Beyond that, again twice the size, it is surrounded by a ring of the curd-ocean, always nourishing hosts of gods.
ततः क्रौञ्चाभिधद्वीपलेखयैवम्प्रमाणया । वेष्टितां खातखदया नवां नृपपुरीम् इव
Then, with a ring of the Krauñcadvīpa of the same measure, it is encircled by the Khātakhada, like a new royal city.
ततो ऽपि च घृताम्भोधिलेखयैवम्प्रमाणया । ततो ऽपि शल्मलिद्वीपलेखयामरपूर्णया
Beyond that, with a ring of the ghee-ocean of the same measure, and beyond that, with a ring of the Śalmalidvīpa, filled with immortals.
ततस् सुरामहाम्भोधिलेखया पुष्पशुभ्रया । शेषस्य देहलतया हरिमूर्तिम् इवाश्रिताम्
Then, with a line of the great ocean of the gods, white as flowers, and with the body of Śeṣa, it appeared as if it had assumed the form of Hari.
ततो गोमेदकद्वीपलेखयैवम्प्रमाणया । इक्षूदलेखयाप्य् एवं हिमवत्सानुशुद्धया
Next, with a line of the Gomedaka island, of such measure, and likewise with a line of sugarcane, pure as the slopes of the Himalayas.
ततो ऽपि पुष्करद्वीपलेखया द्विगुणस्थया । अन्ते स्वादूदकाम्भोधिलेखयैवम्प्रमाणया
Then, with a line of the Puṣkara island, twice as large, and finally with a line of the sweet-water ocean, of such measure.
सप्तस्व् अर्णवलेखासु नैरृते ककुबन्तरे । जलेन्धनज्वलज्ज्वालवडवाग्निकणाङ्किताम्
Among the seven oceanic lines, in the southwestern direction, it was marked with droplets of blazing fire from submarine volcanoes, like burning fuel in water.
ततो ऽपि कोटिदशकं तप्तकाञ्चनकान्तया । वलितां कान्तिशालिन्या भुवा गीर्वाणभोग्यया
Then, ten times a crore in extent, shining with the radiance of heated gold, curved and splendid, fit for the enjoyment of the celestial beings.
अथ सप्तार्णवद्वीपहेमोर्वीणां प्रमाणतः । ततो दशगुणेनाधः पातालतलगामिना
Thus, according to the measure of the seven oceanic islands and golden earths, then, ten times greater below, extending to the realm of Pātāla.
निखातवलयेनोच्चैश् श्वभ्रसम्भाररूपिणा । पातालगममार्गेण वलितां भयदात्मना
With a deeply embedded ring, towering high, resembling a mass of caverns, winding along the path leading to Pātāla, possessing a terrifying nature.
एतस्मात् खलु सर्वस्मात् ततो दशगुणोच्चया । आव्योम सचतुर्दिक्कं श्वभ्रसम्भारभीमया
From all this, then, ten times higher, the sky, with all four directions, formidable with masses of caverns.
अर्धे म्लानतमोरूपलग्ननीलोत्पलस्रजा । नानामाणिक्यशिखरकल्हारकुमुदाब्जया
With a garland of blue lotuses, half-withered and bearing the form of darkness, adorned with various jeweled peaks, lilies, lotuses, and water-lilies.
लोकालोकाचलोत्तालविपुलाट्टालमालया । वलितां त्रिजगल्लक्ष्मीधम्मिल्लवलनाम् इव
Encircled by the vast mountain range of Lokāloka, whose lofty summits resemble the twisted locks of the fortune of the three worlds.
एतस्माद् अथ सर्वस्मात् ततो दशगुणात्मना । अज्ञातभूतसञ्चारनाम्नारण्येन पालिताम्
Beyond all this, and tenfold greater in essence, lies a forest named 'the wanderer of unknown beings,' which protects all.
एतस्माद् अथ सर्वस्मात् ततो दशगुणात्मना । नभसेव चतुर्दिक्कं व्याप्तां निर्मलवारिणा
Beyond all this, and tenfold greater in essence, it spreads in all directions like pure water filling the sky.
एतस्माद् अथ सर्वस्मात् ततो दशगुणात्मना । मेर्वादिद्रावणोत्केन ज्वालाजालेन मालिताम्
Beyond all this, and tenfold greater in essence, it is enveloped by a mass of blazing flames, capable of melting even Meru and other mountains.
एतस्माद् अथ सर्वस्मात् ततो दशगुणात्मना । मेर्वाद्य् अप्य् अचलनीकं नयता तृणपांसुवत्
Beyond all this, and tenfold greater in essence, it moves even the immovable Meru and others as easily as blades of grass or dust.
वहताद्रीन्द्रविस्फोटकारिदार्वाग्निहारिणा । निश्शून्यत्वाद् अशब्देन मरुता परितो वृताम्
Surrounded on all sides by wind, which, though capable of splitting mountains and carrying fire, remains silent due to its emptiness.
एतस्माद् अथ सर्वस्मात् ततो दशगुणात्मना । परितो वलितां व्योम्ना निश्शून्येनैकरूपिणा
Beyond all this, and tenfold greater in essence, it is encircled on all sides by the sky, which is empty and of a single nature.
अथ योजनलक्षाणां शतेन घनरूपिणा । व्याप्तां ब्रह्माण्डखण्डेन हैमेन रविपर्वणा
Then, with a hundred yojanas in extent, dense and solid, covered by a fragment of the cosmic egg, adorned with a golden solar crest.
इति जलधिमहाद्रिलोकपाल त्रिदशपुराम्बरभूतलप्रणीतम् । जगदुदरम् अवेक्ष्य मानुषी प्राग् भुवि निजमन्दिरकोटरं ददर्श
Thus, having observed the world—created by the ocean, great mountains, guardians of the quarters, cities of the gods, sky, and earth—she saw her own home’s chamber on the earth.
ततो ददृशतुस् सद्म स्वम् एव सिद्धयोषितौ । अदृश्ये एव लोकस्य मण्डपं ब्राह्मणास्पदम्
Then the two siddha women saw their own house, a pavilion invisible to the world, a seat of Brahman.
चिन्ताविधुरदासीकं बाष्पक्लिन्नाङ्गनामुखम् । विध्वस्तप्रायरचनं शीर्णपत्त्राम्बुजोपमम्
It was filled with anxious servants, faces of women wet with tears, its structure mostly ruined, resembling a lotus whose petals have withered.
नष्टोत्सवपुरप्रायम् अगस्त्यान्तम् इवार्णवम् । ग्रीष्मदग्धम् इवोद्यानं विद्युद्दग्धम् इव द्रुमम्
It was like a city whose festivals had vanished, like the ocean at the end of Agastya’s influence, like a garden scorched by summer, or a tree struck by lightning.
वातच्छिन्नम् इवाम्भोदं हिमदग्धम् इवाम्बुजम् । स्वल्पस्नेहदशं दीपम् इवालोकनखेददम्
It was like a cloud torn by wind, a lotus burned by frost, a lamp with little oil, causing distress to those who looked upon it.
