क्वचिद् दुर्गर्जदम्भोदं क्वचिन् मूकचलाम्बुदम् । वातावकीर्णशुक्लाभ्रखण्डपुष्पोत्करं क्वचित्
Somewhere, thunderous clouds roar fiercely; elsewhere, silent clouds drift; in some places, the wind scatters fragments of white clouds like clusters of flowers.
क्वचिद् अत्यन्तनिश्शून्यम् अवदातम् अनन्तरम् । आनन्दिमृदुशान्ताच्छं ज्ञस्येव हृदयं ततम्
In some places, it is utterly empty and spotless, immediately serene; gentle, peaceful, and clear, like the heart of one who knows.
शुकवाहनभेकौघैः क्वचिद् गलकृतारवम् । शून्यताराभिवलितं क्षेत्रम् आकाशवासिनाम्
In some places, flocks of parrots and frogs create a throaty clamor; the field of the sky-dwellers is adorned with stars in emptiness.
मयूरहेमचूडादिपक्षिभिः क्वचिद् आवृतम् । विद्याधरीणां देवीनां वाहनैर् विहितास्पदैः
Elsewhere, it is filled with birds like peacocks with golden crests and other birds, serving as vehicles and resting places for the goddesses among the Vidyādharas.
क्वचिद् अभ्रान्तरोन्नृत्यद्गुहमायूरमण्डलम् । क्वचिद् अग्निशुकैश् श्यामं शाद्वलानाम् इव स्थलम्
In some places, peacock circles dance within the clouds; elsewhere, the ground appears dark with fire-parrots, as if it were a meadow.
क्वचित् प्रेतेशमहिषमहिम्ना वाहनाम्बुदम् । क्वचिद् अश्वैस् तृणग्रासशङ्काग्रस्तासिताम्बुदम्
In some places, the clouds are vehicles for the lord of the departed, the buffalo, in his majesty; elsewhere, the black clouds are consumed by horses, suspecting them to be grass.
क्वचिद् देवपुरव्याप्तं क्वचिद् दैत्यपुरान्वितम् । अन्योऽन्याप्राप्यनगरं नगरन्ध्रकरालिनम्
In some places, it was filled with cities of the gods; in others, with cities of demons; some cities were inaccessible to each other, and some were riddled with narrow lanes.
क्वचित् कुलाचलाकारनृत्यद्भैरवभासुरम् । क्वचिद् गन्धर्वनगरसुरस्त्रीवृन्दबन्धनम्
In some places, it shone with the terrifying dance of Bhairava, resembling a mountain of families; elsewhere, it was crowded with groups of celestial women in the cities of the Gandharvas.
क्वचिद् कम्पद्गिरिध्वस्तवृक्षलक्षोक्षिताम्बुधिम् । क्वचिन् मायाकृताकाशनलिनीजलशीतलम्
In some places, the ocean was dried up by thousands of trees toppled from trembling mountains; elsewhere, it was cooled by the water of sky-lotuses conjured by illusion.
क्वचित् सपक्षशैलेन्द्रसमनृत्यद्विनायकम् । क्वचिद् घर्घरवाताढ्यपक्षप्रोड्डीनपर्वतम्
In some places, the lord of mountains danced with wings, accompanied by Vinayaka; elsewhere, mountains were hurled up by the force of roaring winds.
क्वचिद् इन्दुकरावृष्टिशीतलाह्लादिमारुतम् । क्वचित् तप्तानलादग्धद्रुमपर्वतवारिदम्
In some places, the wind was cool and delightful, moistened by showers of moonbeams; elsewhere, the waters, trees, and mountains were scorched by burning fire.
क्वचिद् अत्यन्तसंशान्तवाताद्येकान्तनिर्ध्वनि । क्वचित् पर्वततुल्याग्निशिखासदृशतोदयम्
In some places, there was utter silence, with not even the slightest wind; elsewhere, the sunrise appeared like flames as tall as mountains.
क्वचित् प्रावृड्भरोन्मत्तघनाभ्ररवघर्घरम् । क्वचित् सुरासुरगणप्रवृत्तरणदुर्गमम्
In some places, the deep rumble of thick, rain-laden clouds intoxicated the monsoon; elsewhere, the path was impassable due to the battles of gods and demons.

In some places, swans of the sky-lake were summoned by melodious calls; elsewhere, the wind plundered the lotuses on the banks of the celestial river Mandakini.
शरीरिणीनां गङ्गादिसरितां सन्निधानतः । प्रोड्डीनमत्स्यमकरकुलीरान्तरकोटरम्
Because of the presence of embodied beings and rivers like the Ganges, there are hollows within, filled with fish, sharks, and crocodiles that leap about.
पातालगार्कजनितभूच्छायाकाकतोदरम् । क्वचित् क्वचिन् मण्डलेषु ग्रस्तचन्द्रार्कमण्डलम्
There are places that are like the depths of the underworld, the shadow cast by the earth from the sun, or the dark hollows of a crow; and in some regions, the orbs of the moon and sun are swallowed up.
क्वचित् स्वर्गानिलाधूतमायाकुसुमकाननम् । पतत्पुष्पहिमासारत्रस्तवैमानिकाङ्गनम्
Elsewhere, there are magical groves of flowers, stirred by the winds of heaven, where celestial women are startled by showers of falling flowers and snow.
उडुम्बरोदरमषकक्रमभ्रमज्जगत्त्रयान्तरगतभूतसञ्चयम् । विलङ्घ्य तद् वरललने विमुच्य खं महीतलं पुनर् अपि गन्तुम् उद्यते
Passing through the hollows of fig trees, swarming with mosquitoes and insects, and filled with the beings of the three worlds, that excellent lady, having traversed them and released the sky, again prepared to descend to earth.
नभस्तलाद् गिरिग्रामं गच्छन्त्यौ किञ्चिद् एव हि । ज्ञप्तिचित्तस्थिते भूमितलं ददृशतुस् स्त्रियौ
As the two women descended from the sky toward a mountain village, their awareness fixed in knowledge and mind, they beheld the earth below.
ब्रह्माण्डनरहृत्पद्मं दिगष्टकदलं बृहत् । गिरिकेसरसम्बाधं स्वामोदभरसुन्दरम्
They saw the lotus of the heart of a man, vast as the cosmic egg, with eight petals facing the directions, crowded with mountain-like filaments, and beautiful with the fullness of its own bliss.
सरित्केसरिकानालम् अवश्यायाम्बुबिन्दुकम् । शर्वरीभ्रमरीभ्रान्तं भूतौघमषकाकुलम्

अन्तर्घुणगणाकीर्णं सुरन्ध्रैस् सुषिरैर् वृतम् । उह्यमानं पयःपूरैर् दिवसालोककान्तिमत्
It was crowded with groups of inner threads, covered with holes made by the gods, and carried along by streams of water, shining with the radiance of daylight.
रसार्द्रं खे भ्रमद्धंसं रात्रिसङ्कोचभाजनम् । पातालपङ्कनिर्मग्ननागनाथमृणालकम्
Moist with sap, with swans wandering in the sky, a vessel for the contraction of night, with lotus-fibers as the lord of serpents sunk in the mire of the netherworld.
कदाचिद् आस्पदाम्भोधिकम्पकम्पितदिग्दलम् । अधो नागगतानन्तदैत्यदानवकण्टकम्
At times, its expanse causes the ocean to tremble, shaking the quarters; below, it is the thorn to the endless demons and titans dwelling among the serpents.
असुरव्रणवल्लर्या सम्भोगसुकुमारया । व्याप्तभूभृन्महाबीजहृदयं बीजभूतया
Its heart, the great seed, is enveloped by the tender creeper of demon-wounds, which is the source of seeds, delighting in union, and pervades the mountain-lord Earth.
जम्बुद्वीप इति ख्यातां विपुलां तत्र कर्णिकाम् । सरित्केसरिकानालां नगरग्रामकेसराम्
There, the vast region known as Jambudvīpa is famed, with its central pericarp, rivers as filaments, and cities and villages as stamens.
कुलशैलोद्धुरोत्तुङ्गबीजसप्तकसुन्दरीम् । मध्यस्थोच्चमहामेरुबीजाक्रान्तनभस्तलाम्
Adorned by the seven beautiful seeds of lofty family-mountains, its sky is spanned by the great central seed, the towering Meru at its heart.
सरःप्रालेयकणिकावनजङ्गलयूथिकाम् । स्वलेखामण्डलान्तस्स्थजनजालाभ्रमण्डलाम्
It is a cluster of lakes, icy droplets, forests, and herds of wild creatures; within its own circle of rays dwell multitudes of people like clouds.
तां योजनशताकारैः प्रतिराकां प्रबोधिभिः । सागरैर् भ्रमरैर् व्याप्तां दिक्चतुष्टयशायिभिः
That land, measured by hundreds of yojanas, is surrounded on all sides by seas, swarms of bees, and the four quarters lying in repose.
दिग्दलाष्टकविश्रान्तसस्वनाम्भोजषट्पदाम् । भ्रातृभिर् नवभिर् भूपैर् नवधा परिकल्पिताम्
Resting on the eight petals of the directions, with the hum of lotuses and bees, it is divided ninefold by its nine brother-kings.
