बीजे ऽन्तस् स्थावरे ह्य् आस्ते पदार्थो यत्र जङ्गमः । किं नास्ते तत्र देहे ऽन्तर् निजे चित्कल्पनात्मकः
Just as the immobile substance remains within the seed where the moving entity is, why would not the one whose nature is consciousness and imagination abide within his own body?
साकारो गगनात्मास्तु निराकारं खम् अस्तु वा । आस्ते बहिर् अथान्तश् च भिन्ने बाह्यान्तरे न हि
Let space have form or be formless; it exists both outside and within, for in the distinction of outer and inner, there is truly no separation.
आत्मारामẖ काष्ठमौनी नजडो ऽपि दृषज्जडः । अहं त्वम् इत्यादिमयो विराड् आत्मनि तिष्ठति
The one who delights in the Self, who is silent as wood, not dull yet appearing inert, who is composed of the notions 'I' and 'you'—the cosmic person abides in the Self.
आवेष्टितोज्झितलतातृणदारुपुंवद् उच्छब्दम् अम्बुरयवच् च विचोपिताङ्गः । नानाविधे हि विहरन्न् अपि कार्यजाले तज्ज्ञश् शिलाजठरशान्तमनस्क एव
Though surrounded by creepers, grass, wood, men, and disturbed by noise like the waves of water, and though his limbs are agitated in various ways amidst the web of actions, the knower remains with a mind tranquil as the heart of a stone.
अथाग्रस्थब्रह्मलोके ब्रह्मणि ध्यानशालिनि । निक्षिप्ताक्षश् शनैर् दिक्षु दृष्टवान् अमलं ह्य् अहम्
Then, in the highest Brahma-world, as Brahma was absorbed in meditation, I slowly cast my gaze in all directions, and beheld the pure Self.
द्वितीयम् अर्कं मध्याह्ने पश्चाद् अभ्युदितं स्फुटम् । दिग्दाहम् इव दिग्वक्त्रे वनदाहम् इवाचले
I saw a second sun at midday, then another clearly rising, as if the quarters were burning at their mouths, like a forest fire on a mountain.
वह्निलोकम् इव व्योम्नि वडवाग्निम् इवार्णवे । ततो ऽपश्यम् अहं दीप्तं सूर्यं नैरृतदिङ्मुखे
In the sky, it was like a world of fire, or like submarine fire in the ocean; then I saw a blazing sun in the direction of the southwest.
सूर्यं याम्यैकदिग्भागे सूर्यम् अग्निकदिङ्मुखे । सूर्यम् ऐन्द्रैकदिग्भागे सूर्यम् ईशानदिङ्मुखे
A sun in the southern quarter, a sun in the southeast, a sun in the east, and a sun in the northeast.
सूर्यं कुबेरककुभि सूर्यं वायव्यदिक्तटे । सूर्यं वारुणदिग्भागे तेन विस्मितवान् अहम्
A sun in the north, a sun at the northwest boundary, a sun in the west; by this I was astonished.
यावद् विचारयाम्य् आशु विधिवैधुर्यम् आकुलः । उदभूद् भूतलात् तावद् अर्क और्व इवार्णवात्
While I was quickly pondering this confusion of order, suddenly, from the earth, a sun arose as if from the ocean, like the submarine fire.
एकादर्शे ऽखिलार्काणां प्रतिबिम्बम् इवोत्थितम् । उदभूत् त्रयम् अर्काणाम् अम्बरे दिग्गणाम्बरे
Just as in a single mirror the reflections of all suns appear, so three suns arose in the sky, in the vast expanse of the directions.
तद् द्वादशपरीमाणं दीप्तं वृन्दं विवस्वताम् । सर्वदिक्कं ददाहोच्चैश् शुष्कं वनम् इवानलः
That blazing cluster of radiant suns, each the size of twelve, scorched all directions intensely, like a fire burning a dry forest.
अथोदभूज् जगत्षण्डशोषणग्रीष्मवासरः । अनग्निर् अग्निदाहो द्राग् अदृश्योल्मुकगुल्मकः
Then there arose a summer day that withered the cosmic egg, burning without fire, scorching without flame, suddenly appearing with invisible meteoric clusters.
अनग्निनाग्निदाहेन तेन तामरसेक्षण । अङ्गानि दावदग्धानि स्विन्नानीव ममाभवन्

बृहद्भडभडारावज्वलद्घनवनाचलम् । महाकहकहाशब्दक्वथत्सप्ताब्धिडम्बरम्
I beheld vast mountains and forests blazing like great submarine fires, and the sky boiling with the roaring sound of the seven oceans.
सज्वालोल्मुकनीरन्ध्रलोकान्तरपुरान्तरम् । ज्वालाघनघटाटोपसिन्दूरीकृतपर्वतम्

विदलद्भूतलोद्भूतधूमदण्डैश् शिलाघनैः । काचस्तम्भसहस्राढ्यभुवनास्थानमण्डपम्
A pavilion whose pillars are countless columns of stone, rising from the earth and emitting smoky shafts, filled with blocks of rock.
क्वथद्भूतमहाभूतताराक्रन्दातिघर्घरम् । लोकपालपुरापातस्फुटच्चटचटोद्भटम्
A tumultuous roar from the boiling elements, echoing with the cries of stars; a realm where the cities of the guardians of the world fall, bursting with sharp, crackling sounds.
ताराविशरणोद्गारवृष्टरत्नधरातलम् । सर्वस्थलालयचलद्दह्यमानजनव्रजम्
A ground drenched with a rain of gems, expelled by the scattering of stars; everywhere, dwellings are shaken, and crowds of people are burning.
सर्वदिक्कानलप्लोषगणदुर्दर्शदिक्तटम् । उत्तप्ताम्बुभरस्विन्नजलेचरमहार्णवम्
A shore difficult to see, scorched by the fires raging in every direction; a great ocean, steaming and sweating, agitated by the burden of heated waters.
धराधरदरीरन्ध्रभ्रमत्कुण्डलिमण्डलम् । पतत्पर्वतनिष्पिष्टप्लुष्टपत्तनमण्डलम्
A swirling mass moving through the crevices and hollows of the mountains; a region where cities are crushed and burned by falling mountains.
पतत्पचपचाशब्दशब्दिताब्ध्यद्रिकुञ्जकम् । तपत्तापोन्नमद्भूतज्वरितार्णवपर्वतम्
A cluster of hills and groves resounding with the repeated sounds of falling debris; mountains and oceans afflicted by intense heat, swelling with fever.
हृदयस्फोटनिस्सारपतद्विद्याधराङ्गनम् । आक्रन्दरोदनश्रान्तद्रवन्निश्शरणामरम्
A realm where the hearts burst and the bodies of celestial beings fall; exhausted by cries and weeping, the gods melt away, bereft of refuge.
नागलोकज्वलज्ज्वालापातालोत्तप्तभूतलम् । शुष्कार्णवस्खदापङ्कविवृत्तोग्रजलेचरम्
The earth was scorched by the blazing flames of the serpent realms, heated from the netherworld below, and dried up seas became muddy expanses, churned by fierce, spreading waters.
और्वेणाबिन्धनाभावात् प्रोड्डीयेव सहस्रधा । गतेन शतधोत्थाय गृहीतगगनाङ्गनम्
Because there was no fuel for the submarine fire, it surged up in a thousand streams, rising up like a hundred rivers, seizing the expanse of the sky.
अथोदभूज् ज्वलज्ज्वालाकिंशुकांशुकशोभितः । ताण्डवायेव कल्पाग्निस् तरलोल्मुकमाल्यवान्
Then arose a blazing flame, adorned like a silk cloth of scarlet kinshuka flowers, bearing garlands of flickering meteors, as if the fire of dissolution itself were dancing.
तारं पटपटाटोपी रटद्भट इवोद्भटः । ज्वालोद्भुजो धूम्रकचो जगज्जीर्णकुटीनटः
Resounding with a sharp, crackling noise, like a fierce warrior shouting, the flame rose up, its hair like smoke, acting as the destroyer of the world's decrepit huts.
