With budding, high breasts and abundant charm, I was like a graceful vine in a splendid forest, adorned with tender leaf-like hands.

Ever captivating the hearts of all living beings, with deer-like, enchanting eyes, I inspired the madness of love.

Not only do I sustain this house, O twice-born one, but indeed, my dear, I uphold this entire abode of the three worlds.
I am the matron of the family, a wife capable of bearing the duties of a spouse, carrying alone the burden of maintaining the household of the three worlds.
Then I became a young woman, with swelling, prominent breasts, radiant like a blossoming vine, endowed with the essence of charm and playfulness.
My husband, due to his procrastination, his devotion to the Vedas, and his practice of austerity, for some reason has not yet married me.
Thus, endowed with youth and the essence of delight, I am consumed by longing in his absence, like a lotus scorched by fire.
Amidst lotuses swaying in the cool breeze, I constantly experience the burning of separation, as if on a bed of pure embers.
All the gardens encircling me are filled with showers of flowers; my deserts, though rich with burning sands, are empty.
The lakes, once soft with swaying lotuses, blue lilies, and tender water-lilies, now lack all sweetness for me, though cranes and swans still dwell there.
I, adorned with lotuses, heavenly coral-trees, and clusters of water-lilies, am scorched with intense burning, as if tossed among thorns.
Beds of water-lilies, blue lotuses, and golden lotuses, with banana-leaf canopies, are reduced to ashes by the searing heat of my body's contact.
Whenever I see something lovely, delightful, or captivating to the mind, my eyes fill with tears within.
Drops of tears, heated by the fire of sorrow, fall and sink with a soft sound among the rows of lotuses and blue lilies.
In the charming groves, I cover my face and weep, swaying gently on the swinging stems and trunks of banana trees.
I see the pavilion of banana leaves, covered with heaps of frost, emitting fierce heat like the embers of acacia wood.
Seeing the sorrowful faces of the waterfowl resting on the swaying stalks of lotuses in the pond, I inwardly reproach my own youth.
In beautiful places I weep; in the midst of things I become gentle; I rejoice in what is unlovely, and am dejected—truly, I do not know what state I am in.
I have seen jasmine, coral-tree, water-lily, and snow—yet to me, who am scorched by the fire of desire, they appear in every direction like ashes.
The beds of blue lotus, tender grass, red lotus, water-lily, jasmine, banana leaf, and garland flowers have been wasted by embracing my body, and the days of my youthful prime have passed in vain.
Then, with the passage of much time, that deep attachment turned to dispassion for me, like a withered sprout at the end of autumn.
Now old, withdrawn, devoid of taste, without affection, with a husband whose mind is crooked and silent—what is the point of my life?
Better widowhood from childhood, or even death itself; better sickness or misfortune than a husband whose nature is unloving.
This alone is the fulfillment of birth and unbroken good fortune for a woman: to have a youthful husband who is sensitive and of gentle conduct.
A woman is ruined when abandoned by her husband, the mind is ruined when devoid of discernment, fortune is ruined when enjoyed by the wicked, and modesty is ruined when seized by a courtesan.
She is a true wife who follows her husband; that is true fortune which abides with the virtuous; that is supreme delight which arises from love; that is true wisdom which sees all equally.
No poverty, no disease, no calamity, nor any misfortune can trouble the minds of a couple who are devoted to each other.
The flower-laden gardens of Nandana bloom abundantly, but they become barren for women who are without a worthy husband or who are abandoned.
