On its peaks, there are rocks resembling ordinary mountains; there are also clouds, firmly established, pure as the sky and made of jewels.
On those clouds, white as the moon or churned milk, the wind-dwelling monkeys, the Hari clan, rest constantly, their bodies shining.

In the northern direction of those clouds, within the cave of the eastern peak, I dwell, my body as enduring as unbroken diamond.

By fate I am bound there, fastened by stone restraints; O sage, I think countless ages have passed for me in that place.
Not only am I bound there, but even my husband is likewise bound—like a bee caught in the petals of a lotus at dusk.
Together with my husband, I endured the hardship of that rocky hollow for a long time; many years have passed there.

Even now, due to my own single fault, I have not attained liberation; we have remained there for a long time, holding the same sense of bondage.
In that rocky confinement, not only are we two bound, but our entire household is also completely bound there.

Listen, O Brahmin, to how I became his wife, and how this genuine affection between us has grown.
By him, my husband, who was born and was but a child then—possessing only a little knowledge—dwelling alone in his pure abode,
He long pondered, considering with care, how a wife befitting a learned one, endowed with noble birth, might come to be.
Then, by his own will, that faultless-limbed, lotus-eyed lord brought me forth, as the spotless moon brings forth its light.
As a creation of his mind, I became his mental consort, lovely as Mandāra’s slender waist; from there I grew, like a blossom in spring.

Not only do I sustain this house, O twice-born one, but indeed, my dear, I uphold this entire abode of the three worlds.
I am the matron of the family, a wife capable of bearing the duties of a spouse, carrying alone the burden of maintaining the household of the three worlds.
Then I became a young woman, with swelling, prominent breasts, radiant like a blossoming vine, endowed with the essence of charm and playfulness.
My husband, due to his procrastination, his devotion to the Vedas, and his practice of austerity, for some reason has not yet married me.
Thus, endowed with youth and the essence of delight, I am consumed by longing in his absence, like a lotus scorched by fire.
Amidst lotuses swaying in the cool breeze, I constantly experience the burning of separation, as if on a bed of pure embers.
