The great treasury of the world's jewels is, on the scales of time, as light as a tuft of cotton; like the moon of illusion and mirage, it is not within the range of perception.
Though infinite, it is without shore, and not established anywhere; in space, it is intent on the creation of forests and the arrangement of mountains.
It is the subtlest among the subtle, and the greatest among the great; the most weighty among the weighty, and the best among all that is excellent.
It acts without agent, action, or instrument; it is without cause and effect; though empty within, it has been completely filled for a long time.
Though the world emerges, it is always empty like a wilderness; though hard as endless mountains, it is soft as a fragment of sky.
Each day, each moment, it is ancient yet frail, new yet old; light appears like darkness, and darkness spreads as light.
Though apparent, it is hard to perceive; though hidden, it is not unknown. Consciousness itself seems inert, and the inert is of the nature of consciousness.
I am the state of not-I, and not-I is indeed myself; that is other, yet I am that; I am myself, yet that is other.
Within this full ocean, the waves of the three worlds appear to shimmer, yet they remain, their nature fluid and ever-changing.
It holds creation within itself, as frost holds whiteness; and creation shines by this, just as whiteness shines through frost.
This deity, without place, time, or parts, day and night, seems to produce the unreal world, as water produces waves.
In this vast sky-like forest, these spread forth—the aged branches of the world, with their five expanding leaves.
This, by its own wish to behold its own reflection, having an utterly pure form, has itself become like a mirror.
The radiant fruits of this sky-tree, by their own will and abundance, delight consciousness with the sweet taste of perceiving creation.
By being both inward and outward, and through manifold diversity within itself, this same one shines within and without, by the manifestation of being and non-being.
The splendor of objects takes this form, and by its own wish in this, it marvels at this purpose, just as the tongue marvels at taste within the mouth.
What is called the liquidity of this water is this world, a limb of the sweet perception of consciousness, revolving with the cycle of worlds.
Here, the entire splendor of objects subsides just as night falls, and from this alone arises its own light, as from fire its radiance.
All this world is whiteness, like snow; from this, these proceed, just as rays from the moon.
From this very limb, from its own color, this variegated world is established; know that all transformation such as non-being is peaceful, pervaded by this alone.
From this supreme tree, which has grown high, the visible branches spread out in the sky's expanse, forming the dense clusters of the world's net.
Surely, here flows the visible river, with waves of rise and fall, bearing countless and endless flowers, unmoving on the unmoving mountain.
On this stage, whose nature is space, the dancer of destiny performs ceaseless beginnings, with gestures that mimic the acts of the worlds.
The play of the world, with the opening and closing of great cycles, is consumed by dissolution and is again produced by the child of time.
Even as worlds arise, this remains peaceful, just as a mirror is unaffected by the reflections that appear in it, without any desire.
For beings present, for creations to come, this is the causeless seed, like a forest for the trees yet to be.
Its opening is the fortune of the world; its closing is the coming of dissolution. This subtle opening and closing abides only in itself.
These countless great worlds, with their phases of creation, existence, and dissolution, arise; yet all these are but vibrations in this infinite, hard-to-cross reality, which itself remains calm, just as the wind is at rest.
Here, these meanings astonish, like eddies in water; and all these states are as the waves upon water.
For this entire universe is of the nature of unknowable knowledge; its form is the highest space—what effort or cessation is there beyond that?
