There is no seed, nor indeed any sprout, nor action, nor person, O noble one; only consciousness appears, adorned by this designation, like an actor beautifying gods, humans, and demons.

In the company of loved ones, at festivals and times of joy, experience happiness, O gentle one, behaving like one overcome by latent tendencies.
When creatures meet death, in battles and such, be ruthless, like fire burning up grass, behaving as if deluded by latent tendencies.
Without weariness, pursue your aim step by step, like a crane, and strive to acquire what is needed, but do not be like one whose mind is overpowered by tendencies and delusion in the pursuit of gain.
Forcefully destroy all your enemies, O slayer of foes, as the wind scatters empty clouds—yet do not be like one whose mind is deluded and dominated by tendencies.
Show compassion to those among people who are worthy of compassion and who are afflicted, remaining inwardly content and silent, not like one whose mind is deluded and overpowered by tendencies.
Be joyful in happiness, be sorrowful in suffering; show compassion to the afflicted, and be courageous among the brave.

Turned inward, always blissful, delighting in your own self—whatever you do with a tranquil and generous mind, in that you are the true doer, O sinless one.
O noble one, by the constant practice of inwardness through self-contemplation, even a stream of thunderbolts falling upon you, O Rama, becomes blunted.
He who abides freely in the cave of his own consciousness, released from the fabrications of thought, delighting in the Self, is the great Lord.
