Spreading the radiance of consciousness, the sun of awareness, which brings illumination, it fashions the days of the world and is never wearied.
From the vibration that is the essence of consciousness alone, the order of the world and the body arises; even their arrangement abides as the undivided Self, like the existence of an object.
By mere vibration, through its own nature, consciousness performs the activity of the world; and by absence of vibration, it withdraws it, just as a wave ceases its formation.
Perceiving objects without distinction, free from intellect and the like, the child of pure consciousness delights by itself in the playthings of creation.
Just as a child grieves when its toy is destroyed, having forgotten its own nature, so here the self sorrows in worldly existence, having forgotten itself.
In the awareness of vibration and non-vibration, by its own recollection, consciousness knows its own wealth; if it knows vibration, then that is said to be fit for knowledge.
By the delusion of knowing vibration, consciousness grieves, having forgotten itself; but quickly attaining the state called non-vibration, it becomes tranquil in liberation.
Covering its own non-vibrational state, the fourth, with waking, dream, and deep sleep, it grieves in vain; not doing so, it does not grieve.
The movements of consciousness, such as mind, intellect, senses, and so on, arise for the net of the world, like the ripples, waves, and drops that arise from the movement of water.
For indeed, conceptualization is the movement of consciousness; non-movement is known as non-conceptualization. Know that Brahman is non-conceptualization, as if it were nothing at all.
Just as the various ripples on water are seen as having different forms, so too is the nondual consciousness-brahman perceived as manifold.
The vibration of consciousness is without thought-construction; that is the fourth state, brahman. That is called liberation—abide firmly in that, O King.
If consciousness is free from thought-construction, O King, then only its vibration remains; that is the state of non-vibration of consciousness, and thought-construction is called vibration.
Establishing the essence of mind, free from the alternatives of thought-construction, within yourself, and with all doubts at peace, even amidst vibration, as the Lord who is consciousness beyond vibration, govern this kingdom, abiding in your own happiness.
The all-pervading one, through the play of vibrations that are the essence of creation, seems to delude its own being like a child—be attentive here, O friend.
The self, by its own imagination, grieves long in the wombs of duality; by its own nondual resolve, in time, it attains peace.
Its own power arises and binds it as it does; its own power arises and releases it as it does.
It is not attained by discourses, nor by intellect, nor by austerity or study; when the desire for its arising comes, that self beholds itself.
Ah, how wondrous is this illusion, truly bewildering everywhere; though the Self pervades all, it does not see itself.
When one perceives the Self as all-pervading and infinite, O Lord of the earth, he withdraws from bodily existence and is not touched by suffering.
Just as the radiance from gems, the moon, sun, and fire, or as leaves from trees, or drops from waterfalls arise from their sources,
So too, in the vastness of Brahman, the world and intellect are imagined; they bring suffering to those ignorant of the truth, yet remain as if unreal.
Just as water, by the force of flow, takes on forms like ropes and other shapes, so too, by the force of vibration, nature assumes diversity.
Just as the movement of water in a river's reservoir is not perceived, so too, while ceaselessly creating the world, the Self is not perceived.
Just as the subtle motion in the reservoir of pure, gentle, vast, and constantly flowing water, divided by rays, is not perceived,
So too, in the cord, in space, or in the abode, the existence of the all-pervading, unobstructed, infinite Being is not perceived.
Just as the subtle vibration within a water bubble is neither existent nor nonexistent, nor does it have a separate reality, so too is the being of consciousness.
Wherever the mind, inherently formed of its own thought, assumes the state of consciousness by all its powers, there it appears to shine forth as if established.
Wherever the mind, inherently formed of its own thought, relinquishes the state of consciousness by all its powers, there it seems to abide as tranquil existence.
If this is so, O noble one, then what is the nature of this great form, such as stone and the like, this vast earthly mass—how does it arise, and what is its essence?
