Perceived as smell in the nose, manifest as fragrance in scent; sustained as body in the body, and as earth in the ground.
Abiding as water in water, as air in air; as fire in fire, and as intellect in intellect.
The mind abides as mind, the sense of 'I' as ego, and consciousness is established in consciousness, manifesting as awareness.
It is fixed in a tree as 'tree-ness', in a cloth as 'cloth-ness', established in a pot as 'pot-ness', and in a banyan tree as 'banyan-ness'.
In the immobile, it is as immobility; in the moving, as mobility; in a stone, as stone-ness; in the conscious, as consciousness.
In immortals, it is as immortality; in humans, as humanity; in animals, as animality; in worms, as worm-ness.
In the sequence of time, it is as time; in seasons, as season-ness; in moments, instants, and blinks, it abides as their very nature, the all-pervading.
In the white, it appears as whiteness; in the black, as blackness; in actions, as the form of movement; in order, as orderliness.
It abides in existence as existence, in destruction as destruction, and in creation as the very form of creation—the Supreme Lord.
It rests in childhood as childhood, in youth as youth, in old age as old age, and in death as death.
Thus, the Supreme Lord, undivided among all objects, is like the fullness of water in the ocean, present in the waves, the spray, and the billows.
This diversity is false; it is imagined by consciousness, just as a goblin is imagined by a child, and it exists only through this reality.
All this, with its various displays, is pervaded by me, who am established everywhere, free from materiality, and of the nature of consciousness—whether conceived or unconceived as self; therefore, O great soul, abide happily with a mind at perfect peace.
When the sage had spoken thus, the day turned toward evening, and the sun set; the assembly, having offered their salutations, went to bathe as the rays of the sun faded into dusk.
Just as, O sage, the city and its surroundings in our dream appear to us, so too is the embodiment of beings like Brahma and others, if it exists.
In the same way, if all this has arisen and is entirely unreal, then how has our conviction become so firm?
The progenitor of previous creations appears just like our own creation—existing only as the reflection of one's own soul, not as an actual reality.
Because consciousness is all-pervading, the individual soul and transmigration are everywhere; but this is false, arising from perception, and is destroyed by true understanding.
This appearance, like a dream, which has arisen of itself, is established very firmly as the single essence of the sense of 'I'-ness.
Just as a person does not perceive the momentary disappearance in a dream, so too, in this dream of creation, even Brahma does not perceive it.
The dream or appearance that belongs to this primordial person is of the same kind as the creation consisting of Rama, myself, and others.
Whatever is born from the dream-person is of the nature of the dream-person; for it is experienced that the fruit is like the seed.
Know that whatever is accomplished by what is unreal is itself unreal; even if an unreal object appears capable, it is not proper to form attachments to it.
Even if an unreal object appears capable, its existence arises only from imagination; therefore, the cultivation of belief in unreality should be abandoned.
Whatever arises from the dream-person who is firmly convinced, such as creation and so on, is itself only a firm conviction within oneself.
This dream of creation endures only for the blink of an eye; within that very instant, the span of our entire world-age is imagined.
Just as this long succession of dreams arises from the Lord of creation, so too, the beginnings of creation and all beings arise individually in the same way.
By the very nature of consciousness, the series of dreams of creation shine forth, just as water displays its liquidity through the movement of its waves.
When this splendor of creation is of the nature of a dream and not real, then the notions 'this comes into being' or 'this does not' have reached dissolution.
Whatever is seen, in whatever manner and form, exists just so; for the confusions of dreams are not subject to logical inquiry.
