शिवशक्त्याख्ययैको ऽपि बहुवद् भासते स्वतः । सर्वशक्त्यात्मनैकेन शिवेनैव शिवात्मसु । अर्थेष्व् अर्थितया सत्सु साक्षिवत् कल्पितात्मसु
Though Shiva and Shakti are one, they appear as many by themselves; the one Shiva, who is the essence of all powers, alone shines forth in those whose nature is Shiva, in the objects that are desired, and in the imagined selves, just as a witness.
एता जगति नृत्यन्ति ब्रह्माण्डे नृत्तमण्डपे । कालेन नर्तकेनेव क्रमेण परिशिक्षिताः
These (powers) dance in the world, on the stage of the cosmic egg, trained in succession as if by the dancer called Time.
या सा परम्परैतासाम् एषा नियतिर् उच्यते । क्रिया प्रकृतिर् इच्छा सा कालेत्यादिकृताभिधा
That which is the sequence of these (powers) is called destiny; it is also called action, nature, or will, and is named according to time and other factors.
आमहारुद्रपर्यन्तम् इदम् इत्थम् इति स्थितेः । आतृणं पद्मजस्पन्दनियमान् नियतिस् स्मृता
Because of the fixed order from the beginningless to Rudra, this sequence is called destiny, which governs the trembling of the lotus-born (Brahma) down to a blade of grass.
नियतिर् नित्यम् उद्वेगवर्जिता परमोर्जिता । एषा नृत्यति खे नित्यं जगज्जालकनाटकम्
Destiny is ever free from agitation and supremely powerful; she eternally dances in the sky, performing the drama of the net of the world.
नानारसविलासाढ्यं विवर्ताभिनयान्वितम् । कल्पक्षणहतानेकपुष्करावर्तघर्घरम्
Endowed with the play of various emotions and accompanied by the gestures of transformation, she resounds with the tumult of countless whirlpools of lotuses struck down in a moment of an aeon.
सर्वर्तुकुसुमाकीर्णधरागोलकमन्दिरम् । भूयो भूयः पतद्वर्षभूरिस्वेदजलोत्करम्
A globe of earth, the abode adorned with flowers of all seasons, again and again showered with abundant drops of sweat-like rain.
पयोदपल्लवालोलनीलाम्बरकृतभ्रमम् । पूर्णसंशुष्कसप्ताब्धिरत्नाढ्यवलयाकुलम्
Its blue sky, swaying like the fresh shoots of clouds, creates an illusion; filled with rings of gems, it contains oceans that are sometimes full, sometimes dried up for seven years.
यामापक्ष्मदिनप्रेक्षाकटाक्षाशारिताम्बरम् । मज्जनोन्मज्जनव्यग्रकुलाद्रिकुलशेखरम्
The sky is shaded by the sidelong glances of day and night, whose eyelids are the hours; mountain peaks are crowned by the restless rising and sinking of creatures.
भ्रमच्छशिमणिप्रोतगङ्गामुक्तालतात्रयम् । चतुर्दशविधानन्तभूतरोमनतोन्नतम्
The three strands of the Ganges, strung with pearls of wandering moonbeams, rise and fall; the world is raised by the countless hairs—meaning the infinite beings—of the fourteenfold creation.
सन्दृष्टादृष्टसन्ध्याभ्रविलोलकरपल्लवम् । अनारतरणल्लोललोकालङ्कारकोमलम्
The tender shoots of clouds, moving at dawn and dusk both seen and unseen, gently adorn the world, ever in motion and ever beautiful.
भूरिभूतलपातालनभस्तलपदक्रमम् । मग्नोन्मग्नघनानीकताराघर्मकणोत्करम्
Its expanse stretches across earth, underworld, and sky in countless steps; it is filled with clusters of dense clouds, both rising and sinking, and with showers of star-heat.
चन्द्रार्कमण्डलस्पन्दस्मितस्फुटनभोमुखम् । कम्पितानेकब्रह्माण्डकवाटकवितानकम्
The face of the earth bursts forth, smiling with the trembling orbits of the moon and sun; the dome of the sky is shaken by the opening and closing of countless universes.
लुठल्लोकान्तरव्यूहध्वनन्मुक्ताङ्कपल्लवम् । सुखदुःखदशादोषभावाभावरसान्तरम्
The tender shoots of worlds, scattered and arrayed, roll about; within, the essence of being and non-being is flavored by the states of happiness and sorrow.
अस्मिन् विकारवलिते नियतेर् विलासे संसारनाम्नि चिरनाटकनाट्यसारे । साक्षी सदोदितवपुः परमेश्वरो ऽयम् एकस् स्थितो न च तया न च तेन भिन्नः
In this ever-changing play of destiny, in the grand drama called worldly existence, the Supreme Lord alone stands as the ever-present witness, whose form is ever revealed; He is not separate from it, nor is it separate from Him.
एष देवस् स परमः पूज्य एष सदा सताम् । चिन्मात्रम् अनुभूतात्मा सर्वगस् सर्वसंश्रयः
This is the divine, the supreme, always worthy of reverence by the noble; pure consciousness, the inner experiencer, all-pervading, and the support of all.
घटे पटे वटे कुड्ये शकटे वानरे स्थितः । शिवो हरो हरिर् ब्रह्मा शक्रो वैश्रवणो यमः
Whether in a pot, a cloth, a banyan tree, a wall, a cart, or a monkey—there abides Śiva, Hara, Hari, Brahmā, Indra, Kubera, and Yama.
बहिर् अन्तश् च सर्वात्मा सदा स्वात्मा सुबुद्धिभिः । द्विविधेन क्रमेणैष भगवान् परिपूज्यते
He, who is the Self of all, both within and without, is always one's own Self to those of clear understanding; this Lord is to be worshipped in two ways, in due order.
बहिस् तावन् महाबुद्धे क्रमेण परिपूज्यते । येन तं शृणु तत्त्वज्ञ श्रोष्यस्य् अन्तःक्रमं ततः । पूजाक्रमेषु सर्वेषु नेह दार्भं पवित्रकम्
First, O great-minded one, He is to be worshipped externally in due order; listen, O knower of truth, to how one then worships internally. In all these methods of worship, there is no need for darbha grass or purificatory objects here.
पूजनं ध्यानम् एवात्र ध्यानम् एवात्र पूजनम् । तस्मात् त्रिभुवनाधारे नित्यं ध्यानेन पूजयेत्
Here, worship is nothing but meditation, and meditation itself is worship; therefore, one should always worship the foundation of the three worlds through meditation.
चिद्रूपं सूर्यलक्षाभं समस्ताभासभासनम् । अन्तस्स्थचित्प्रकाशं स्वम् अहन्तासारम् आश्रयेत्
One should take refuge in the essence of one's own 'I'-sense, which is of the nature of consciousness, shining like a hundred thousand suns, illuminating all appearances, and manifest within as the light of awareness.
अपारपरमाकाशविपुलाभोगकन्धरम् । अनन्ताधस्पदाकाशकोशपादसरोरुहम्
Its neck is vast, extending through the boundless supreme space; its lotus feet rest upon the infinite support of the lower space.
अनन्तदिक्तटाभोगभुजमण्डलमण्डितम् । नानाविधमहालोकगृहीतपरमायुधम्
Adorned with a circle of countless, limitless arms, bearing supreme weapons seized from various great worlds.
हृत्कोशकोणविश्रान्तब्रह्माण्डौघपरम्परम् । प्रकाशपरमाकाशपारगापारविग्रहम्
Resting in the corner of the heart’s chamber, its form extends through the succession of universes, reaching the farthest limits of light and supreme space.
ब्रह्मेन्द्रहरिरुद्रेशप्रमुखाम् अमरादिकाम् । इमां भूतश्रियं तस्य रोमालीं परिचिन्तयेत्
One should contemplate this glory of beings, which for Brahma, Indra, Hari, Rudra, and the foremost immortals, is but a strand of his body’s hair.
विविधारम्भकारिण्यस् त्रिजगद्यन्त्ररज्जवः । इच्छाद्याश् शक्तयस् सर्वाश् चिन्तनीयाश् शरीरगाः
All the powers such as will and others, which act as the threads of the machinery of the three worlds, should be regarded as residing within the body.
अनन्तैकपदाधारस् सत्तामात्रैकविग्रहः । विवर्तितजगज्जालः कालो ऽस्य द्वारपालकः
With infinite unity as its foundation, its form is solely existence; the vast web of the world is its transformation, and time stands as its gatekeeper.
सशैलभुवनाभोगम् इदं ब्रह्माण्डमण्डलम् । देहकोणे ऽस्य कस्मिंश्चित् स्वाङ्गावयवतां गतम्
This sphere of the universe, along with its mountains and worlds, is situated in some corner of his body, as one of his own limbs.
विचिन्तयेन् महादेवं सहस्रचरणेक्षणम् । सहस्रशिरसं शान्तं सहस्रभुजभूषणम्
One should contemplate the great Lord, adorned with a thousand feet and eyes, peaceful, crowned with a thousand heads, and decorated with a thousand arms.
सर्वत्रेक्षणशक्त्याढ्यं सर्वतो घ्राणशक्तिगम् । सर्वत्र स्पर्शनमयं सर्वतो रसनान्वितम्
Endowed everywhere with the power of sight, pervaded everywhere by the power of smell, composed everywhere of touch, and possessed everywhere of taste.
