अहम् आलोक्य देवेन चन्द्रार्धकृतमौलिना । पुष्पसानूपविष्टेन प्रोक्तस् स्मितसिताक्षरम्
I beheld the god, whose crown was adorned with the crescent moon, seated upon a flowery mound, who spoke with a gentle, smiling voice.
आनयार्घ्यं तथा पाद्यं ब्रह्मन् स्वागतम् अस्तु ते । आश्रमातिथयः प्राप्ता वयम् अद्य तवानघ
Bring the arghya and the water for the feet; O Brahman, may you be welcome. Today, O sinless one, we have arrived as guests at your hermitage.
घनाभिरामशालिन्या सततं शमशान्तया । मुदितोदारया ब्रह्मंस् तपोलक्ष्म्या विराजसे
O Brahman, you shine with the wealth of austerity, ever graced by tranquil serenity, abundant joy, and noble grandeur.
आगच्छोपविशास्मिंस् त्वम् अकृत्रिमदलासने । मृदौ सानुसमुद्भूते पुण्यसञ्चयपावने
Come, sit here upon this seat, unfeigned and free from pride, soft and raised upon the mound, purified by the accumulation of merit.
इति प्रोक्तवते तस्मै निशेशार्धार्धधारिणे । अर्घं पुष्पं तथा पाद्यं समुपेत्यार्पितं मया
Thus, having spoken to him who bears the crescent moon, I approached and offered arghya, flowers, and water for the feet.
पादयोर् हस्तयोश् चैव तन्वां चास्य स्वयम्भुवः । मन्दारपुष्पावलयो विकीर्णा बहवः पुरः
Upon the feet, hands, and body of the self-born one, many garlands of mandara flowers were scattered before him.
ततो भगवती गौरी तादृश्यैव सपर्यया । सम्पूजिता सखीयुक्ता गणमण्डलिका तथा
Then the blessed Gauri, accompanied by her companions and the circle of attendants, was worshipped in the same manner.
गृहीतवन्तौ तौ तां मे सपर्याम् आदरात् प्रभू । भक्तिप्रणयिनो राम पार्वतीपरमेश्वरौ
Those two, Parvati and the supreme Lord, graciously accepted my worship with devotion and affection, O Rama.
पूजान्ते पूर्णशीतांशुरश्मिशीतलया गिरा । तत्रोपविष्टं प्रोवाच माम् अथेन्दुकलाधरः
At the end of the worship, with words cool as the full moon's rays, he who bears the crescent moon upon his brow, seated there, spoke to me.
ब्रह्मन् प्रशमशालिन्यः प्राप्तविश्रान्तयः परे । कच्चित् कल्याणकारिण्यस् संविदस् ते स्थिताः पदे
O Brahmin, are those peaceful and tranquil states, which bring supreme rest, established in you, the doer of auspicious deeds?
कच्चित् कमलकल्हारकुमुदानयनक्षमाः । तवान्तेवासिनो ब्रह्मन् नीरुजस् त्वदनुव्रताः
O Brahmin, are your disciples, devoted to you, free from illness and possessing eyes like lotuses, lilies, and water-lilies?
बलिभागभुजां कच्चिद् भगवन् भवदाश्रमे । कुशलं मुग्धमुग्धानां मृगाणां मत्प्रियादृशाम्
O venerable one, is all well among the gentle and innocent deer—dear to me—who partake of the offerings in your hermitage?
कच्चिन् मन्दारकुसुमान्य् एते मन्दारपादपाः । तवास्मदादिपूजार्थं सम्प्रयच्छन्ति सून्नताः
Are these mandara trees, with their branches bowed, offering mandara flowers for your worship and mine?
कच्चिन् मन्दाकिनी पुण्यं तव स्नानोपयोगिकम् । एकया वाहलतया ददात्य् उत्पलपङ्कजम्
Does the holy Mandakini river, with her single gentle current, provide you with lotuses and water-lilies for your bathing?
असमञ्जसचेष्टासु नित्यं चेष्टासु मे ऽनघ । अपि मद्गणलीलासु मुनिनाथ न खिद्यसे
O sinless one, do you, O lord of sages, never grow weary of my ever-restless, sometimes unruly, playful companions?
तिष्ठन्तम् इह शैलेन्द्रे विपिनारण्यवासिनः । अपि नोद्वेजयन्ति त्वां धनेशानुचरा मुने
O sage, while you dwell here on the king of mountains, do the attendants of Kubera, lord of wealth, who live in the forests, not disturb you?
दुर्वृत्तघनयक्षौघे विप्र लोलनिशाचरे । वसतो ऽस्मिन् गिरेः कुक्षाव् अप्य् अनुद्वेगितास्ति ते
Even when a host of wicked Yakshas and restless night-wanderers dwell in the hollow of this mountain, you remain undisturbed.
एवंवादिनि देवेशे सर्वलोकैककारणे । गिरानुनयशालिन्या मयोक्तं रघुनन्दन
When the Lord of the gods, the sole cause of all worlds, spoke thus, I replied with words gentle and conciliatory, O descendant of Raghu.
त्र्यक्षानुस्मृतिकल्याणवताम् इह महेश्वर । न किञ्चिद् अपि दुष्प्रापं न च काश्चन भीतयः
O great Lord, for those blessed with constant remembrance of the three-eyed one, nothing is difficult to attain here, nor do any fears arise.
त्वदनुस्मरणानन्दपरिपूर्णितचेतसः । न ते सन्ति जगत्कोशे प्रणतिं ये न बिभ्रति
Those whose minds are filled with the bliss of remembering you, who do not offer you reverence, are not found in the expanse of the world.
ते देशास् ते जनपदास् ता दिशस् ते च पर्वताः । त्वदनुस्मरणैकान्तधियो यत्र नरास् स्थिताः
Those lands, those peoples, those directions, and those mountains are where men devoted solely to your remembrance dwell.
फलं भूतस्य पुण्यस्य वर्तमानस्य सेचनम् । तरोर् इवैष्यतो बीजं त्वदनुस्मरणं प्रभो
O Lord, remembrance of you is the seed for the future, the watering of present virtue, and the fruit of past merit, just as for a tree.
भूतं भव्यं भविष्यच् च सफलं येन नाम तत् । कालत्रितयकल्याणं त्वदनुस्मरणं प्रभो
O Lord, remembrance of you is that by which the past, present, and future become fruitful; it is the good fortune of all three times.
परमं मनसो मित्रं सर्वापत्प्रसरापहम् । सर्वसम्पल्लतासेकस् त्वदनुस्मरणं प्रभो
O Lord, remembrance of you is the supreme friend of the mind, the remover of all calamities, and the abundant shower of every prosperity.
महामहिम्नां महतां महितानां च कर्मणाम् । कारणं कारणानां वै त्वदनुस्मरणं प्रभो
O Lord, the remembrance of you is truly the cause of all causes, the source of the great deeds of the great, and of the exalted acts of the exalted.
विवेकपयसाम् अब्धिः पुण्यरत्नाकरः परः । अज्ञानतिमिरार्कौघस् त्वदनुस्मरणं प्रभो
O Lord, the remembrance of you is the ocean of the waters of discernment, the supreme mine of virtuous gems, and the multitude of suns that dispel the darkness of ignorance.
ज्ञानामृतौघकलशो धृतिज्योत्स्नानिशाकरः । अपवर्गपुरद्वारं त्वदनुस्मरणं प्रभो
O Lord, the remembrance of you is the vessel filled with the nectar of knowledge, the moon of the night that is courage, and the gateway to the city of liberation.
तृष्णालतायाः परशुर् धैर्याम्भोधरपर्वतः । दैन्यदुर्वनदावाग्निस् त्वदनुस्मरणं प्रभो
O Lord, the remembrance of you is the axe for the creeper of craving, the mountain of the cloud that is fortitude, and the wildfire in the dense forest of misery.
जयत्य् आभासिताशेषचित्तसंसारमण्डपः । अपूर्वः परमो दीपस् त्वदनुस्मरणं प्रभो
O Lord, the remembrance of you is the supreme and unprecedented lamp that illumines the entire pavilion of the mind's world-appearance, and it triumphs.
त्वदनुस्मरणोदारचिन्तामणिमता मया । सर्वासाम् आपदां मूर्ध्नि दत्तं भूतपते पदम्
O Lord of beings, by the jewel of noble contemplation that is the remembrance of you, I have placed my foot upon the head of all calamities.
