That which, rising from the twelve-finger limit, is the supreme fullness of form outside apāna, is known as another kind of recaka.
Knowing these external and internal kumbhaka and others, which are the natural states of prāṇa and apāna, one is not born again.
O great intellect, these eight (methods), when remembered day and night, or even by their very nature, have been described by me as bestowing liberation upon the winds (vital energies).
Whether one is going, standing, awake, or even asleep, these (practices) are not hindered, for by nature the wind is indeed ever-moving.
Whatever one does or eats, if he remembers these with understanding, then, even while performing kumbhaka and other practices, he is not truly the doer of anything within.
If, with a mind fully engaged in this practice, one abandons external concerns, then in just a few days he attains the ultimate state.
For the person who practices this, the mind does not become attached to external sense-objects, just as a Brahmin feels no delight in a dog's feast.
Those who, firmly established in this vision, have made up their minds, have attained all that is to be attained, and they are never afflicted.
Whether standing, walking, always awake, or even sleeping, if this vision is maintained, then no bondage arises.
When, by following the movement of prāṇa and apāna, pure and undisturbed awareness is attained, then, with passion and delusion pacified, one abides inwardly in one's own true nature.
Renouncing all undertakings, remaining composed, and acting wisely, a person attains the movement of prāṇa and apāna, becoming well-balanced and flourishing in happiness.
O Brahman, the ascent of prāṇa arises from the lotus mechanism situated in the heart; prāṇa moves outward up to the limit of twelve finger-widths.
O great sage, the ascent of apāna comes from outside up to the twelve-finger limit; then it sets within the lotus mechanism established in the heart.
Where prāṇa sets, at the twelve-finger limit in the sky-space, from that place apāna rises immediately thereafter.
Prāṇa, facing the outer sky, moves like a flame of fire; apāna, facing the heart's sky, flows downward like water.
Apāna, like the moon, nourishes the body from outside; prāṇa, like the sun or fire, cooks this body from within.
Prāṇa heats the heart's sky at every moment; afterward, the supreme sun heats the sky at the tip of the mouth.
The moon-like apāna, after filling the sky at the mouth's tip, fills the heart's space immediately thereafter, in the blink of an eye.
When the rays of the inner moon of apāna are absorbed by the sun of prāṇa, upon reaching that state, there is no further cause for sorrow.
Where the rays within the sun of prāṇa are absorbed by the moon of apāna, upon attaining that state, the mind no longer partakes in birth.
Prāṇa itself becomes the sun, both in the outer and inner space; afterwards, it attains the state of the moon, which brings nourishment.
Prāṇa, having abandoned the state of the moon, which brings nourishment to the body, instantly attains the supreme state of the sun, which brings about drying up.
As long as prāṇa, having given up the state of the sun, has not attained the state of the moon, it remains to be examined; but in that interval, place and time are not to be grieved over.
Knowing the perpetual setting and rising of the sun and moon in the heart, and one's own true foundation, the mind is not born again.
He who sees in the heart the divine sun, with its rising and setting, with the moon, with rays, and with all its associations—he truly sees.
The darkness outside, whether not diminished or fully diminished, does not lead to accomplishment; but when the darkness of the heart is destroyed, then the highest accomplishment is attained.
When the external darkness is diminished, the world and its beyond are perceived; but when the inner darkness of the heart is diminished, one's own supreme light arises.
The destruction of the heart's darkness is known to grant liberation; one should carefully observe the rising and setting of the sun of breath.
Where the moon of apāna sets in the core of the heart's lotus, from that place the sun of prāṇa rises within, facing outward.
When apāna sets, prāṇa rises from the heart-lotus; just as, when the shadow fades, the sun appears there at once.
