भूतजालतरङ्गिण्या विशन्त्याः कालसागरम् । वयं संसारसरितस् तटस्था अप्य् अनाकुलाः
As the river of beings flows toward the ocean of time, we, though standing on the shore of worldly existence, remain undisturbed.
नोज्झामो न च गृह्णीमस् तिष्ठामो नैव च स्थिताः । मृदवो ऽपि भृशं क्रूरा वयम् अस्मिन् द्रुमे स्थिताः
We neither abandon nor grasp, nor do we remain fixed; though gentle, we are exceedingly firm, standing steady on this tree.
वीतशोकभयायासैस् त्वादृशैः पुरुषोत्तमैः । तुष्टैर् अनुगृहीतास् स्मस् संस्थिता विगतज्वराः
Freed from sorrow, fear, and fatigue, supported by the contentment of noble ones like you, we stand established, free from all distress.
नेतश् चेतश् च पर्यस्तं लुलितं न च वृत्तिषु । नापरामृष्टतत्त्वार्थम् अस्माकं भगवन् मनः
Our mind, O venerable one, is neither scattered nor agitated in its functions; it does not dwell on anything other than the essence of truth.
निर्विकारे गतक्षोभे स्वात्मन्य् उपशमं गते । अतरङ्गाः प्रपूर्णास् स्मः पर्वणीव महाब्धयः
When all agitation has ceased, and the mind rests in its own undisturbed nature, we become, like the ocean at the full moon, complete and without waves.
भवदागमनाद् ब्रह्मन्न् इदानीं मुदिताशयाः । फलिताशेषसङ्कल्पाः परमां पूर्णतां गताः
O Brahman, with your arrival, our hearts are now filled with joy; all our intentions have come to fruition, and we have attained the highest fullness.
रसायनमयी शीता परमानन्ददायिनी । नानन्दयति कं नाम साधुसङ्गतिचन्द्रिका
The moonlight of holy company is cool, bestowing supreme bliss and like an elixir; whom does it not delight?
सत्सङ्गमानन्दरसः केनायम् उपमीयते । मन्दरोद्धूतसर्वाम्बुः क्षीरोदो येन खर्व्यते
With what can the blissful essence of holy company be compared? Who can exhaust the ocean of milk churned by Mandara, as it overflows with all waters?
नातः परतरं किञ्चिन् मन्ये कुशलम् आत्मनः । सन्तो यद् अनुगम्यन्ते सन्त्यक्तसकलैषणम्
I consider nothing more beneficial for oneself than following the wise, who have abandoned all desires.
आपातमात्ररम्येभ्यो भोगेभ्यः किम् अवाप्यते । सत्सङ्गचिन्तामणितस् सर्वं सारम् अवाप्यते
What is truly gained from pleasures that are charming only at first glance? From the wish-fulfilling gem of holy company, all that is essential is attained.
स्निग्धगम्भीरमसृणमधुरोदारधीरवाक् । त्रैलोक्यपद्मकोशे ऽस्मिंस् त्वम् एकष् षट्पदायसे
You alone, with speech that is gentle, deep, smooth, sweet, noble, and steady, are the bee in this lotus of the three worlds.
अधिगतपरमात्मनो ऽपि मन्ये भवदवलोकनशान्तदुष्कृतस्य । मम सफलम् इहाद्य जन्म साधो सकलभयापहरो हि साधुसङ्गः
Even for one who has realized the Supreme Self, I think that beholding you, whose sins are calmed, makes my birth fruitful today, O noble one; for the company of the good removes all fear.
युगक्षोभेषु घोरेषु वात्यासु विषमासु च । सुस्थिरः कल्पवृक्षो ऽयं न कदाचन कम्पते
This wish-fulfilling tree remains steady and unmoved, even in the terrible upheavals of the ages and in fierce, violent storms.
अगम्यो ऽयं समग्राणां लोकान्तरविहारिणाम् । भूतानां तेन तिष्ठामस् सुखम् अस्मिन् वनस्पतौ
This tree is inaccessible to all beings who roam other worlds; therefore, we dwell happily in its shade.
हिरण्याक्षो धरापीठं द्वीपसप्तकवेष्टितम् । यदा जहार तरसा नाकम्पत तदा द्रुमः
When Hiraṇyākṣa forcefully seized the earth, encircled by its seven islands, even then this tree did not tremble.
यदा दोलायितवपुर् बभूवामरपर्वतः । सर्वतो दत्तझम्पाद्रिर् नाकम्पत तदा द्रुमः
When the mountain of the gods, shaken in form, was tossed in every direction, even then this tree did not tremble.
भुजावष्टम्भविनमन्मेरुर् नारायणो यदा । मन्दरं प्रोद्दधाराद्रिं नाकम्पत तदा द्रुमः
When Nārāyaṇa, embracing Meru with his arms, lifted up the Mandara mountain, even then this tree did not tremble.
उन्मूलिताद्रीन्द्रशिला यदोत्पातानिला ववुः । आधूतमेरुतरवस् तदा नाकम्पत द्रुमः
When storms uprooted mountains and blew away their peaks, and the roar of Meru was shaken, even then this tree did not tremble.
यदा सुरासुरक्षोभस्फुरच्चन्द्रार्कमण्डलम् । आसीज् जगद् अतिक्षुब्धं तदा नाकम्पत द्रुमः
When the heavens of sun and moon quivered from the turmoil of gods and demons, and the world was greatly agitated, even then this tree did not tremble.
यदा क्षीरोदलोलाद्रिकन्दरानिलकम्पिताः । कल्पाभ्रपङ्क्तयः पेतुस् तदा नाकम्पत द्रुमः
When the rows of clouds at the end of the age, shaken by winds from the caves of the churning mountain, fell down, even then this tree did not tremble.
यदा समन्ततो मेरुः कालनेमिभुजान्तरे । किञ्चिद् उन्मूलितो ऽतिष्ठत् तदा नाकम्पत द्रुमः
When Mount Meru was slightly uprooted on all sides by the arms of the wheel of Time, even then the tree did not tremble.
पक्षीशपक्षपवना अमृताक्रान्तिसङ्गरे । यदा ववुः पतत्सिद्धास् तदा नाकम्पत द्रुमः
When the winds from the wings of birds, in the tumult of their quest for immortality, blew as the accomplished ones fell, even then the tree did not tremble.
यदा शेषाकृतिं कर्षन्न् असमाप्तैकवेष्टनात् । ययौ गरुत्मान् अमृतं तदा नाकम्पत द्रुमः
When Garuda, dragging the form of Shesha, departed with the nectar before Shesha could complete his single coil, even then the tree did not tremble.
यदा कल्पानलशिखाश् शैलाब्धिवलनोल्बणाः । शेषः फणाभिस् तत्याज तदा नाकम्पत द्रुमः
When Shesha abandoned with his hoods the fierce flames of the cosmic fire, surging like mountains and oceans at the end of an age, even then the tree did not tremble.
एवंरूपे द्रुमवरे तिष्ठताम् आपदः कुतः । अस्माकं मुनिशार्दूल दौस्स्थित्येन किलापदः
In such a state as this, O best of trees, how could there be calamity for those who stand firm? For us, O tiger among sages, adversity arises only from instability.
कल्पान्तेषु महाबुद्धे वहत्स्व् अग्न्यम्बुवायुषु । प्रतपत्सु तथार्केषु कथं तिष्ठसि विज्वरम्
At the end of the cycles, O great-minded one, when fire, water, and wind rage, and the suns blaze fiercely, how do you remain free from distress?
यदोपयाति कल्पान्तव्यवहारो जगत्स्थितौ । कृतघ्न इव सन्मित्रं तदा नीडं त्यजाम्य् अहम्
When the dissolution of the world approaches at the end of an age, just as an ungrateful man abandons a friend, then I too abandon my nest.
आकाश एव तिष्ठामि विगताखिलकल्पनम् । स्तब्धप्रसृतसर्वाङ्गो मनो निर्वासनं यथा
I remain in space alone, all imaginings gone, with every limb motionless and extended, just as the mind is when it is free from all impressions.
प्रतपन्ति यदादित्यास् सलिलीकृतभूधराः । वारुणीं धारणां बद्ध्वा तदा तिष्ठामि धीरधीः
When the suns blaze and the mountains are turned to water, having established the water-concentration, I remain steadfast in mind.
यदा शकलिताद्रीन्द्रा वान्ति प्रलयवायवः । पार्वतीं धारणां बद्ध्वा खे तिष्ठाम्य् अचलस् तदा
When the winds of dissolution blow and shatter the lordly mountains, having established the mountain-concentration, I stand unmoving in the sky.
