नृत्यन्तीनां तु हंसीनां पिबन्तीनां तथासवम् । वेलेवाब्धितटीनां तु रतिस् सम्यग् अजायत
As the swans danced and drank wine, passion arose among them, just as waves arise on the shore of the ocean.
सञ्जातरतयो मत्तास् सर्वा हंस्यः क्रमेण ताः । रेमिरे तेन काकेन चण्डकाख्येन वै तदा
All those swans, gradually overcome by passion, enjoyed themselves with that crow named Caṇḍa.
सप्तानां बालहंसीनां दयितो वायसस् त्व् असौ । क्रमेणारमतैकत्र यावद् अन्योऽन्यम् ईप्सितम्
That crow became the beloved of the seven young swans, and in turn enjoyed each one, as long as each desired the other.
अथ ता गर्भधारिण्यो बभूवुर् अतितोषिताः । देव्यश् च कृतनृत्तास् ताः प्रशान्तमदतां ययुः
Then, those goddesses, thoroughly satisfied, became pregnant; having finished their dance, they calmed their intoxication.
ददुर् ओदनतां याताम् ईश्वराय प्रियाम् उमाम् । भोजनाय महामाया देव्यस् ताश् शूलपाणये
The goddesses gave Uma, who had become food, to the Lord for his meal; those great enchantresses offered her to the wielder of the trident.
प्रिया मे भोजने दत्तेत्य् एवं च शशिशेखरः । बुद्ध्वा बभूव रुषितो यदा मातृगणं प्रति
The moon-crested one, realizing that his beloved had been given for food, became angry with the group of mothers.
तदा तास् तां समुत्पाद्य स्वाङ्गदानेन वै पुनः । ददुर् भूयोविवाहेन पार्वतीम् इन्दुमौलये
Then, having generated her again by giving their own limbs, they once more gave Parvati to the moon-crowned one through a renewed marriage.
ततो देव्यो हरश् चैव परिवारस् तथैतयोः । सर्वे सन्तुष्टमनसस् स्वां स्वाम् उपययुर् दिशम्
Afterwards, the goddesses, Shiva, and their retinues, all with satisfied minds, departed each to their own direction.
अन्तर्वत्न्यो बभूवुस् ता ब्राह्म्यो हंस्यो मुनीश्वर । वृत्तान्तं कथयाम् आसुर् ब्राह्म्या देव्या यथास्थितम्
Those Brahmi and Hamsi wives became pregnant, O sage, and began to recount the story as it had occurred with the goddess Brahmi.
हे वत्सास् साम्प्रतं गर्भवत्यो मे रथकर्मणि । न समर्था भवत्यो ऽपि स्वैरं चरत साम्प्रतम्
O children, now my companions are pregnant and unable to perform chariot duties; for now, you may roam freely.
इति गर्भालसा हंसीर् मुक्त्वा देवी दयापरा । निर्विकल्पे समाधाने ब्राह्मी तस्थौ यथासुखम्
Thus, releasing the Hamsi goddesses who were weary from pregnancy, the compassionate goddess withdrew, and Brahmi remained happily in undifferentiated meditation.
अथ नाभिसरोजाते वैरिञ्चे कमलाकरे । गर्भालसा विचेरुस् ता राजहंस्यो मुनीश्वर
Then, in the lotus-born abode of Brahma, O sage, those royal swans, weary from pregnancy, wandered in the lotus pond.
एवं विपक्वगर्भास् ता नाभीकमलपल्लवे । सुवते स्म मृदून्य् अण्डान्य् अथ वल्ल्य इवाङ्कुरान्
Thus, when their eggs had matured, those [female swans] laid soft eggs upon the stalk of the lotus at the navel, just as vines produce sprouts.
तानि कालं समासाद्य तत्राण्डान्य् एकविंशतिः । गर्भाक्रान्त्या द्विधा जग्मुर् ब्रह्माण्डानीव सारवं
After some time had passed, those twenty-one eggs, through the process of gestation, divided into two, just as cosmic eggs do, containing the essence.
अण्डेभ्यस् तेभ्य एवं हि जाता वयम् इमे मुने । भ्रातरश् चण्डतनया वायसा एकविंशतिः
From those eggs, O sage, we and these, my brothers—the twenty-one sons of Caṇḍa, like crows—were born.
ते स्म जाता गता वृद्धिं तस्मिन् कमलपल्लवे । सञ्जातपक्षास् सम्पन्ना गगनोड्डयनक्षमाः
Having been born, we grew up on that lotus stalk; our wings developed, we became complete, and capable of soaring through the sky.
मातृभिस् सह हंसीभिर् ब्राह्मी भगवती ततः । चिरम् आराधिता सम्यक् समाधिविरता सती
Together with our mothers, the swan females, the venerable goddess Brahmī was long and properly worshipped, she who was steadfast in meditation.
प्रसादपरया काले भगवत्या ततस् स्वयम् । तथाङ्गानुगृहीतास् स्मो यथा मुक्ता वयं स्थिताः
By the goddess's supreme grace, in due time, we were thus favored by her, so that we remain established as liberated beings.
सन्तृप्तमनसश् शान्ता एकान्ते ध्यानसंस्थितौ । तिष्ठाम इति निश्चित्य पितुः पार्श्वं वयं गताः
With minds satisfied and at peace, established in solitary meditation, we resolved to remain by our father's side.
आलिङ्गितास् ततः पित्रा पूजितालम्बुसा वयम् । तया दृष्टाः प्रसादेन संस्थितास् तत्र संयताः
Then, embraced by our father and honored by Alambusā, we were seen by her; through her grace, we remained there, composed.
पुत्राः कच्चिद् अपर्यन्ताद् वासनासूत्रसूम्भितात् । भवन्तो निर्गता नूनम् अस्मात् संसारजालकात्
Children, have you truly emerged from this web of worldly existence, woven endlessly by the threads of latent tendencies?
नो चेद् वयं भगवतीं तद् इमां भृत्यवत्सलाम् । प्रार्थयामो यथा यूयं भवत ज्ञानपारगाः
If not, then let us pray to this divine one, who is affectionate to her devotees, so that you may become accomplished in knowledge.
तात ज्ञातम् अलं ज्ञेयं ब्राह्म्या देव्याः प्रसादतः । किं त्व् एकान्तस्थितेस् स्थानम् अभिवाञ्छाम उत्तमम्
Father, all that is to be known has been understood by the grace of the divine Brahma goddess; yet we desire the supreme state of absolute solitude.
शृणुत विगतदोषं पावनं स्थानम् अग्र्यं स्थिरतरम् अयि पुत्रा नीडकामाः प्रवक्ष्ये । व्यपगतभयमोहं शान्तसर्वप्रचारं निवसत चिरतृप्ता यत्र निश्शङ्कम् उच्चैः
Listen, O children who long for a nest, I will describe a pure, excellent, and steadfast abode, free from faults; where fear and delusion are absent, all activity is tranquil, and one dwells long, fully satisfied, without any anxiety, in lofty peace.
सर्वरत्नगणाधारस् समस्तसुरसंश्रयः । अस्त्य् अमेयमहोत्सेधो मेरुर् नाम महीधरः
There exists a mountain named Meru, the support of all precious gems and the refuge of all gods, whose greatness is immeasurable.
चलच्चन्द्रार्कदीपस्य भूतवृन्दकलत्रिणः । ब्रह्माण्डमण्डपस्यास्य स्तम्भः कनकनिर्मितः
It is the golden pillar of the cosmic hall, adorned with moving moon, sun, and lamps, and surrounded by hosts of beings.
सौवर्णश् चन्द्रवीटार्थं रत्नाढ्यश् शिखराङ्गुलिः । ध्वनद्द्वीपाब्धिवलयो भुवेवोन्नामितो भुजः
Its summit, rich with jewels, is made of gold for the moon's abode; its arms, raised high, encircle the ring of islands and oceans, embracing the earth.
वृतः कुलाद्रिसामन्तैर् जम्बुद्वीपासने स्थितः । राजा चन्द्रार्कनयने भ्रमयञ् शैलसंसदि
Encircled by neighboring noble mountains, it stands as the seat of Jambudvīpa; the king, with moon and sun as eyes, moves about in the assembly of mountains.
तारौघमालतीमाल्यो दिग्दशैकाम्बराम्बरः । नागद्वितयसंस्थात्मा नाकनायकभूषणः
Adorned with garlands of jasmine and stars, clad in a single garment of the directions, his form rests upon two great serpents, and he is ornamented by the lord of heaven.
दिगङ्गनाभिर् अभितो रम्याभिः पुरभूषणैः । पृषन्निष्ष्यन्दिभिश् शीतैर् वीजितो घनचामरैः
Surrounded on all sides by beautiful city ornaments, the maiden of the directions, he is fanned by thick, cool camara fans that drip with refreshing moisture.
