त्वत्पाददर्शनाद् एव सर्वं ज्ञातं मया मुने । यथागमनपुण्येन वयम् आयोजितास् त्वया
O sage, merely by seeing your feet, I have come to know everything; by the merit of my past approach, we have been brought together by you.
चिरजीवितचर्चाभिर् वयं ते स्मृतिम् आगताः । तेनेमं पादपं पादैस् त्वं पवित्रितवान् अयम्
Through discussions about long life, we have come to your remembrance; thus, with your feet, you have sanctified this tree.
ज्ञातत्वदागमो ऽप्य् एवं त्वां पृच्छामीह यन् मुने । भवद्वाक्यामृतास्वादवाञ्छा तत् प्रविजृम्भते
Even though I know of your arrival, O sage, I still ask you here; for the desire to taste the nectar of your words arises again.
इत्य् उक्तवान् असौ पक्षी भुसुण्डश् चिरजीवितः । त्रिकालामलसंवेदी तत्र प्रोक्तम् इदं मया
Thus spoke that ancient bird, Bhusunda, who has lived long; being aware of all three times, I then said this there.
विहङ्गममहाराज सत्यम् एतत् त्वयोच्यते । द्रष्टुम् अभ्यागतो ऽस्म्य् अद्य त्वाम् एव चिरजीवितम्
O great king of birds, what you say is true; today I have come to see you, the long-lived one.
आशीतलान्तःकरणो दिष्ट्या कुशलवान् असि । पतितो ऽसि न शुद्धात्मन् भीषणां भववागुराम्
With a mind cooled within, by good fortune you are well; O pure-souled one, you have not fallen into the dreadful snare of worldly existence.
तद् एतं संशयं छिन्द्धि भगवन् मम तत्त्वतः । कस्मिन् कुले भवाञ् जातो ज्ञातज्ञेयः कथं भवान्
Therefore, O venerable one, cut away this doubt of mine in truth: in which lineage were you born, and how did you come to know what is to be known?
कियद् आयुश् च ते साधो वृत्तं स्मरसि किं च वा । केन वायं निवासस् ते निर्दिष्टो दीर्घदर्शिना
O noble one, what is your age, and what do you remember of your conduct? By whom was this dwelling of yours assigned, O far-seeing one?
यत् पृच्छसि मुने सर्वं तद् इदं कथयाम्य् अहम् । अनुद्वेगितयेयं नः कथा श्रव्या महात्मना
O sage, all that you ask, I shall now recount; this discourse of ours is to be heard by the great-hearted, free from agitation.
युष्मद्विधास् त्रिभुवनप्रभुपूज्यरूपा आकर्णयन्ति यद् उदारधियो महान्तः । तेनाशुभं प्रकथितेन विनाशम् एति मेघस्य देहविभवेन यथार्कतापः
Those like you, revered by the rulers of the three worlds, endowed with noble minds, listen attentively; by such pure narration, misfortune is dispelled, just as the sun’s heat dissolves a cloud’s form.
अथ राम भुसुण्डो ऽसौ न प्रहृष्टो न जिह्मधीः । सर्वाङ्गसुन्दरश् श्यामः प्रावृषीव पयोधरः
Then, O Rama, that Bhusunda was neither elated nor crooked in mind; dark and beautiful in every limb, like a rain cloud in the monsoon.
स्निग्धगम्भीरवचनस् स्मितपूर्वाभिभाषणः । करस्थपालीवतवत्प्रतोलितजगत्त्रयः
His words were gentle and profound, his speech preceded by a smile; holding a staff in his hand, he seemed to weigh the three worlds.
तृणवद्दृष्टसकलः प्रमेयीकृतसंसृतिः । लोकाजवञ्जवीभावे दृष्टे ज्ञातपरावरः
He regarded all as grass, having measured the entirety of existence; seeing the world’s fleeting nature, he knew the highest and lowest.
धीरस् स्थिरसमाकारो विश्रान्त इव मन्दरः । परिपूर्णस् समश् शुद्धः पूर्णार्णव इवाहतः
Steadfast and calm in appearance, like a resting Mandara mountain; complete, equal, pure, like a full ocean undisturbed.
पदविश्रान्तधीश् शान्तः परमानन्दघूर्णितः । आविर्भावतिरोभावतज्ज्ञस् संसारजन्मिनाम्
His mind rested in its own state, peaceful, stirred by supreme bliss; knowing the arising and ceasing of manifestation among those born in the world.
सरभसवचनाभिरामरूपः प्रियमधुरोचितचारुहृद्यवाक्यः । स्वयम् इव नवम् आस्थितश् शरीरं सकलभयापहरः परः प्रकर्षः
With lively and delightful speech, pleasing and sweet, charming to the heart; as if newly assuming a body, he was the highest, removing all fear.
इदम् अमलगिराह हासशुद्धं मृदुपदम् उज्झितसम्भ्रमं क्रमेण । कथयितुम् अखिलं निजं स्वरूपं मधुर इव स्तनितेन मुग्धमेघः
This pure speech, cleansed by gentle laughter, unfolds softly, free from agitation, gradually revealing its own nature, like a sweet, innocent cloud expressing itself through a tender rumble.
अस्त्य् अस्मिञ् जगति ज्येष्ठस् सर्वनाकनिवासिनाम् । देवदेवो हरो नाम देवदेवाभिपूजितः
In this world, among all the dwellers of the heavens, there exists the supreme god named Hara, worshipped by all the divine ones.
षट्पदश्रेणिनयना यस्योच्चस्तबकस्तनी । विलासिनी शरीरार्धे लता चूततरोर् इव
On whose body, in one half, resides a graceful woman, whose eyes are like rows of bees, whose breasts are prominent like blossoming clusters, resembling a vine upon a mango tree.
हिमहारसिता यस्य लहरीस्तबकोम्भिता । आवेष्टितजटाजूटा गङ्गा कुसुममालिका
Whose matted locks are entwined with the river Ganga, whose waves, white as snow, are adorned with clusters of flowers, forming a garland.
क्षीरसागरसम्भूतः प्रसृतामृतनिर्झरः । प्रतिबिम्बशशश् श्रीमान् यस्य चूडामणिश् शशी
Born from the ocean of milk, with streams of nectar flowing forth, whose crest jewel is the moon, radiant and reflected, shining upon his head.
अनारतशिरश्चन्द्रप्रस्रवेणामरीकृतः । यस्येन्द्रनीलवत् कालकूटः कण्ठस्य भूषणम्
Whose neck is adorned with the dark poison, like a sapphire, made immortal by the continuous flow of moonlight upon his head.
धूलिलेखामहावर्तं स्वच्छं पावकसम्भवम् । परमाणुचयं भस्म यस्य स्नानजलं सितम्
Whose bath water is pure, consisting of ashes born from fire, swirling in great dust, made of countless particles.
निर्मलानि जितेन्दूनि घृष्टानि घटितानि च । यस्यास्थीन्य् एव रत्नानि देहे कान्तिमयानि च
Whose bones are themselves gems—pure, surpassing the moon in brilliance, polished and fashioned, radiant within his body.
दशाशादशम् अम्भोदनीलं शीतलपल्लवम् । तारकाबिन्दुशबलं यस्य चाम्बरम् अम्बरम्
His sky is the ten directions and the ten quarters, cool with tender leaves, dark blue like the ocean, and speckled with stars and dots.
भ्रमच्छिवाङ्गनं पक्वमहामांसौदनाकुलम् । बहुभूतेर् गृहं यस्य श्मशानं हिमपाण्डुरम्
His abode is the cremation ground, pale as snow, filled with the wandering forms of Shiva's attendants, crowded with heaps of great, cooked flesh, and the dwelling of many beings.
कपालमालाभरणाः पीतरक्तरसासवाः । अन्त्रस्रग्दामवलिता बन्धवो यस्य मातरः
His mothers are those whose ornaments are garlands of skulls, who drink yellow and red blood-wine, and who wear intestines as necklaces.
प्रस्फुरन्मूर्धमणयश् चोपन्तो मसृणाङ्गकाः । भुजगा वलया यस्य प्रकचत्कनकत्विषः
His shining jewels are the sparkling gems on their heads, their smooth limbs, and the snakes that coil as bracelets, gleaming with golden light.
दृक्पातप्लुष्टशैलेन्द्रं जगत्कवलनालसम् । भैरवाचरितं यस्य लीलासन्त्रासितामरम्
His play is the dreadful conduct that terrifies the gods, his gaze scorches the lord of mountains, and he is eager to devour the world.
स्वस्थीकृतजगज्जीवस् स्वव्यापारस्थचेतसः । यदृच्छया करस्पन्दो यस्यासुरपुरक्षयः
He is self-composed, his mind established in his own activity, sustaining the life of the world; the destruction of the cities of demons happens by the mere movement of his hand, as he wills.
