सर्वावयवविश्रान्तं समस्तावयवातिगम् । अनारतं कचद्रूपं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We worship the Self of consciousness, which rests in all limbs, transcends every part, and is ceaselessly of the nature of space.
घटे पटे तटे कुड्ये स्वदमानं सदा तनौ । जाग्रत्य् अपि सुषुप्तस्थं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We worship the Self of consciousness, which is ever present in the pot, the cloth, the bank, the wall, and the body, awake even in deep sleep.
उष्णम् अग्नौ हिमे शीतं मृष्टम् अन्ने शितं क्षुरे । कृष्णं ध्वान्ते सितं चन्द्रे चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We worship the Self of consciousness, which is heat in fire, cold in snow, sharpness in food, edge in the razor, darkness in the night, and brightness in the moon.
मधुरादिषु माधुर्यं तीक्ष्णादिषु च तीक्ष्णताम् । गतं पदार्थशक्त्यर्थं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We worship the Self of consciousness, which is sweetness among sweet things, sharpness among sharp things, and which enters the power and meaning of all objects.
जाग्रत्स्वप्नसुषुप्तेषु तुर्ये तुर्यातिगे पदे । समं सदैव सर्वत्र चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, which is ever the same everywhere—in waking, dreaming, deep sleep, in the fourth state, and beyond the fourth.
प्रशान्तसर्वसङ्कल्पं विगताखिलकौतुकम् । विरताशेषसंरम्भं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, in whom all thoughts are stilled, all curiosity has vanished, and all striving has ceased.
निष्कौतुकं निरालम्बं निरीहं सर्वम् एव च । निरंशं निरहङ्कारं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, which is free from curiosity, without support, without desire, entirely indivisible, and devoid of ego.
सर्वस्यान्ते स्थितं सर्वम् अप्य् अपारैकरूपिणम् । अपर्यन्तं चिदारम्भं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, which abides at the end of all things, is all things, is of boundless and single form, and is the endless origin of consciousness.
त्रैलोक्यदेहमुक्तानां तन्तुम् उत्तमम् आततम् । प्रसारसङ्कोचकरं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, the supreme thread stretched out for those liberated from the body of the three worlds, which causes expansion and contraction.
लीनम् अन्तर् बहिश् चोग्रं क्रोडीकृत्य जगत्खगम् । चित्रं बृहज्जालम् इव चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, which, having absorbed the fierce world-sword within and without, is like a wondrous, vast net.
सर्वं यत्रेदम् अस्त्य् एव नास्त्य् एव च मनाग् अपि । सदसद्भूतम् एकं तच् चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, in which all this exists and yet does not exist even in the slightest—a single reality that is both being and non-being.
परमं प्रत्ययं पूर्णम् आस्पदं सर्वसंविदाम् । सर्वाकारविहारस्थं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, the supreme, complete certainty, the foundation of all awareness, abiding in the play of every form.
चर्ममर्मसिराबद्धदेहदुर्यन्त्रवाहकम् । अकलं सकलाधारं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, bound to a body of skin, vital organs, and veins, which is the faulty vehicle, yet the undivided support of all.
निष्कलं षोडशकलं कलनाकारवर्जितम् । सर्वाकारं नकिञ्चिच् च चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, indivisible, yet with sixteen parts, free from the forms of calculation, of every form and yet of none.
हृत्कण्ठतालुमध्यस्थं भ्रूनासापुटकोटिगम् । गमागमोत्कप्राणस्थं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, situated in the midst of the heart, throat, and palate, reaching to the tip of the nostrils and between the brows, abiding in the movement and cessation of breath.
हृत्पद्मकोटरान्तस्स्थं सर्वावयवकोशगम् । भुवनाडम्बरादर्शं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, residing within the hollow of the heart-lotus, pervading all bodily organs, and reflecting the vastness of the worlds.
अशिरस्कहकारान्तम् आभास्वरम् अखण्डितम् । भूषणं सर्वभूतीनां चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, ending with the sound 'ha' and without a head, radiant, unbroken, the ornament of all beings.
स्नेहाधारदशाशान्तिमुखवाताहतिभ्रमैः । युक्तं मुक्तं च चिद्दीपं बहिर् अन्तर् उपास्महे
We contemplate the lamp of consciousness, within and without, joined and freed from the confusions caused by the winds of affection, peace, and agitation.
हृत्सरःपद्मिनीकन्दतन्तुं सर्वाङ्गरञ्जकम् । जनताजीवितोपायं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, the thread at the root of the heart's lotus-lake, coloring all the limbs, the means of life for all beings.
अक्षीरार्णवसम्भूतम् अशशाङ्काशयस्थितम् । अहार्यम् अमृतं सत्यं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, arisen from the ocean of milk, abiding in the heart of the moon, indestructible, immortal, and true.
शब्दरूपरसस्पर्शगन्धैर् आभासम् आगतम् । तेनैव रहितं शान्तं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, which appears through sound, form, taste, touch, and scent, yet is peaceful and devoid of these.
महामहिम्ना सहितम् अहतं सर्वकर्तृभिः । कर्तृत्वेनाप्य् अकर्तारं चिदात्मानम् उपास्महे
We contemplate the consciousness-self, which, though associated with supreme greatness and untouched by all agents, is non-doer even when appearing as doer.
अखिलम् इदम् अहं ममैव सर्वं त्व् अहम् अपि नाहम् अथेतरच् च नाहम् । इति विदितवतो जगत् क्षतं मे स्थिरम् अथ वास्तु गतज्वरो भवामि
All this is 'I', all is mine, yet I am not this, nor am I anything else; for one who knows thus, the world is healed—let it remain or not, I am free from anxiety.
इति निश्चयवन्तस् ते महान्तो विगतैनसः । सत्यासत्यपदे शान्ते समे सुखम् अवस्थिताः
Thus, those great ones, resolved and free from sin, abide happily in the peaceful state beyond true and untrue.
इति पूर्णधियो धीरास् समनीरागचेतसः । न निन्दन्ति न नन्दन्ति जीवितं मरणं तथा
Thus, those wise ones, with minds full and free from passion, neither condemn nor delight in life or death.
इत्य् अलङ्घ्यचमत्कारा नारायणभुजा इव । रेजुर् अस्खलिताकारा अपरा इव मेरवः
Thus, possessing unsurpassable wonder, they shone with unwavering form, like the arms of Nārāyaṇa or like other Meru mountains.
रेमिरे वनषण्डेषु द्वीपेषु नगरेषु च । देवोपवनमालासु स्वर्गेषु च सुरा इव
They found delight in forest groves, on islands, in cities, in divine garden clusters, and in heavens, like gods.
भ्रेमुः कुसुमपूर्णासु दोलालीलाबिलासु च । विचित्रवनलेखासु मेरुशृङ्गशिलासु च
They wandered in flower-filled swings and caves, in wondrous forest paths, and on the peaks and rocks of Meru.
चक्रुर् विजितशत्रूणि चामरच्छत्रवन्ति च । विचित्रार्थानि राज्यानि चित्राचारमयानि च
They established kingdoms, adorned with victorious banners and fly-whisks, filled with wondrous wealth and remarkable customs.
अनुजग्मुर् इमां सर्वां नानारसविचेष्टिताम् । श्रुतिस्मृत्युदितारम्भाम् इतिकर्तव्यताम् इह
They followed all the various pursuits of this world, engaging in actions prescribed by the scriptures and tradition, and in all that is considered duty here.
