बृहत्पर्वतपर्वाढ्या ब्रह्माण्डत्वक्परावृता । देहयष्टिर् इयं यस्यास् त्रिलोकी लोकलासिनी
This body, whose form is adorned with great mountain ranges and enveloped by the shell of the universe, is the one by which the three worlds are consumed.
सुखं दुःखं भवो भावो ज्ञानम् अज्ञानम् एव च । अत्रैतान्य् उरुवृत्तानि मूलानि च फलानि च
Pleasure, pain, existence, feeling, knowledge, and ignorance—all these have extensive manifestations here, along with their roots and fruits.
सुखाद् अविद्योदेत्य् उच्चैस् तद् एवान्ते प्रयच्छति । दुःखाद् अविद्योदेत्य् उच्चैस् तद् एवान्ते फलत्य् अलम्
From pleasure, ignorance arises strongly and ultimately bestows the same; from pain, ignorance arises strongly and ultimately produces its own fruit.
भवाद् अविद्योदेत्य् एषा तम् एव फलति स्फुटम् । भावात् सत्ताम् अवाप्नोति तम् एव फलति क्षणात्
From existence, ignorance arises and clearly yields its own fruit; from feeling, it attains being and instantly produces its own fruit.
अज्ञानाद् वृद्धिम् आयाति तद् एवास्याः फलं स्मृतम् । ज्ञानेन याति संवित्तिं तद् एवान्ते प्रयच्छति
From ignorance, it grows, and that is considered its fruit; through knowledge, it attains awareness and ultimately bestows the same.
नानाविधोल्लासवती वासनामोददायिनी । घनप्रवालपटला तनुर् अस्या विजृम्भते
Her body expands, full of various delights and giving the fragrance of desires, like a dense mass of shoots and leaves.
दिवसव्यूहकुसुमा यामिनीलोलषट्पदा । अजस्रं स्पन्दमानैषा प्रपतद्भूतपल्लवा
She is adorned with the flowers of daytime arrangements and restless bees of the night; she is ever-vibrant, with falling sprouts of beings.
आगत्यागत्य तरसा विवेककरिणा क्वचित् । विधूयते धूतरजःप्रसरा पुनर् एति च
Sometimes, with the swift approach and departure of discernment, she is shaken, her dust dispersed, but then she returns again.
जायमानप्रवालाढ्या सञ्जाताङ्कुरदन्तुरा । सर्वर्तुकुसुमोपेता समग्ररसशालिनी
Rich with newly sprouted shoots, adorned with emerging buds, bearing blossoms of every season, she is abundant in all flavors.
जन्मपर्वालिनीरन्ध्रा विनाशच्छिद्रदद्रुला । भोगाभोगरसापूर्णा विचारैकघुणक्षता
Her body is riddled with the cavities of birth and decay, marked by the cracks of destruction; filled with the tastes of pleasure and pain, yet wounded by the worm of inquiry alone.
विकसन्त्यः प्रतिदिनं चन्द्रार्कावलयो हि याः । व्योम्नि वातविलोलानि पुष्पाण्य् अस्याः किलाङ्ग ताः
Those that bloom each day—the orbits of the moon and sun—are, in truth, her flowers, tossed about in the sky by the wind.
अस्याः प्रस्फुरिताकाराः कोरकत्वम् उपागताः । पूरिताकाशकोशा यास् तारका रघुनन्दन
Her forms that shimmer and burst forth have become buds; and those that fill the vault of the sky, O descendant of Raghu, are the stars.
चन्द्रार्कदहनालोका अस्यास् तत् कौसुमं रजः । अनेनेयं हि गौराङ्गी स्त्रीवच् चेतांसि कर्षति
The light of the moon, sun, and fire is her pollen; by this, O fair-skinned one, she draws the minds of women.
मनोमातङ्गवलिता सङ्कल्पकलकोकिला । इन्द्रियव्यालशबला तृष्णात्वगुपरञ्जिता
She is swayed by the elephant of the mind, her cuckoo is the play of imagination, she is speckled with the serpents of the senses, and tinged by the dye of thirst.
नीलाकाशतमालाङ्गसंश्रयेणोन्नतिं गता । रोदसीजानुसुस्तम्भा भुवनोद्यानभूस्थिता
Having attained greatness by resting on the garland-like expanse of blue sky, she stands firm on the twin pillars of earth and heaven, established in the garden of the worlds.
अधोब्रह्माण्डखण्डेन स्वालवालेन जालिना । विहिताशेषजलधिजलक्षीरादिसेचना
With the lower half of the cosmic egg as her own root and a network of fine hairs as threads, she arranges the watering of all oceans, waters, and milk.
त्रयीविलोलभ्रमरा रमणीपुष्परञ्जिता । चित्स्पन्दवातवलिता क्रियाविपुलपत्त्रिका
Adorned with the bees of the three Vedas, colored by the flowers of pleasure, stirred by the wind of consciousness, and bearing abundant leaves of action.
कुकर्माजगरव्याप्ता स्वर्गश्रीपुष्पमण्डपा । जीवजीवकनीरन्ध्रा नानामोदमदप्रदा
Filled with the serpents of evil deeds, with pavilions of heavenly splendor and flowers, pierced by the holes of living beings, and granting various delights and intoxications.
नानारसमयी चित्रा नानाकुसुमहासिनी । नानाफलावलिव्याप्ता नानावर्णविकासिनी
Varied with many tastes, wondrous, blossoming with diverse flowers, covered with clusters of many fruits, and shining with many colors.
नानालवालवलया नानाविहगधारिणी । नानापरागपरुषा नानाभ्रलवलाञ्छिता
Encircled by many creepers, inhabited by various birds, rough with different kinds of pollen, and marked by swarms of bees.
नानालताकुट्मलिता नानावनगणोत्थिता । नानागिरितटारूढा नानाचलनिरन्तरा
Bud-laden with many vines, arising from groups of various forests, ascending the slopes of many mountains, and continuous with countless peaks.
जाता च जायमाना च म्रियमाणा तथा मृता । अनुच्छिन्ना तथा च्छिन्ना नित्यम् अच्छेदिनी तथा
Born and being born, dying and dead, unbroken and yet broken, and ever indestructible as well.
अतीता वर्तमाना च सत्येवासत्पदास्पदा । नित्यम् अत्यन्ततरुणा नित्यं शमम् उपेयुषी
Past and present, truly both real and unreal, ever supremely youthful, and always attaining peace.
महाविषलतैषा हि संसारविषमूर्छनाम् । ददाति रभसा श्लिष्टा परामृष्टा विनश्यति
Indeed, this is the great poisonous creeper that brings the intoxication of worldly existence; when eagerly embraced it gives delight, but when grasped firmly it perishes.
स्फीतेतो गलितेतश् च रूढेतस् संस्थितान्व् इतः । इतो जलम् इतश् शैला इतो नागास् सुरा इतः
Here, it has expanded; there, it has dissolved; elsewhere, it has become established and remains. In one place, there is water; in another, mountains; here, serpents; there, gods.
इतः पृथ्वीत्वम् आयाता तथेतो द्युतया स्थिता । इतश् चन्द्रार्कतां प्राप्ता तथेतस् तारकाकृतिम्
From here, it has taken the form of earth; from there, it stands as radiance. In one place, it has become the moon and sun; elsewhere, it has assumed the form of stars.
इतस् तम इतस् तेज इतः खम् इत उर्वरा । इतश् शास्त्रम् इतो वेदा इतो द्वयविवर्जिता
Here is darkness, there is light; here is space, there is fertile land. In one place, there is scripture; in another, the Vedas; elsewhere, that which is free from both.
इतः पुण्यम् इतः पापम् इतस् स्थावरमूढता । इतो ज्ञानात् परिक्षीणा पीनेतो ऽज्ञानभावनात्
Here is virtue, there is sin; here is the dullness of immovable things. In one place, it is diminished by knowledge; in another, it is fattened by the cultivation of ignorance.
इतः पुण्यतपोदानैः क्षीयमाणतया स्थिता । इतो योगविलासेन नूनं क्षयम् उपागता
Here, it is reduced by acts of virtue, austerity, and giving; there, it is surely brought to an end by the play of yoga.
क्वचित् खगतयोड्डीना क्वचिद् देवतया स्थिता । क्वचित् स्थाणुतया रूढा क्वचित् पवनतां गता
In some places, it soars with the movement of birds; in others, it remains as a deity. Sometimes, it is fixed like a pillar; sometimes, it has taken the form of wind.
