विजहार यथाकामं त्रिलोकीमठिकाम् इमाम् । सिद्धसाध्यैस् समं साधो सहंसो ऽलिर् इवाब्जिनीम्
He wandered as he wished in this world of three realms, together with the perfected and accomplished beings, like a swan with bees in a lotus pond.
एकदा तस्य सदनं हेमचूडमहीपतेः । प्राप रत्नविनिर्माणं मेरोश् शृङ्गम् इवापरम्
Once, the palace of King Hemachūḍa, adorned with jewels, appeared like another peak of Mount Meru.
ते तत्र प्राक्तने मित्रे पूजाम् अकुरुतां मिथः । पूर्णां विज्ञातविज्ञेयौ मौर्ख्यगर्ताद् विनिर्गते
There, the two old friends honored each other, both having attained complete knowledge and emerged from the pit of ignorance.
अहो नु मम कल्याणैः फलितं बत पावनैः । सम्प्राप्तवान् अहं यत् त्वाम् इत्य् अन्योऽन्यम् अथोचतुः
Ah, truly, my good deeds have borne fruit, for I have come to meet you—thus they spoke to each other.
आलिङ्गितशरीरौ ताव् अन्योऽन्यानिन्दिताकृती । एकासने विविशतुश् चन्द्रार्काव् इव भूधरे
Embracing each other, their forms beyond reproach, they sat together on one seat, like the moon and sun on a mountain.
परमानन्दम् आयातं चेतस् त्वद्दर्शनेन मे । चन्द्रबिम्ब इवोन्मग्नम् अन्तश्शीतलतां गतम्
My mind has attained supreme bliss upon seeing you, just as the moon's disk, though submerged, regains its inner coolness.
अकृत्रिमं सुहृत्प्रेम वियोगे शतशाखताम् । प्रयाति पल्वलतटे छिन्नरूढ इव द्रुमः
Genuine friendship, when separated, spreads into a hundred branches, like a tree on a riverbank that, though cut, sends out new shoots.
विस्रब्धांस् तान् कथालापांस् ता लीलास् तच् च चेष्टितम् । संस्मृत्य प्राक्तनं साधो हृष्याम्य् एव पुनः पुनः
Remembering those free and joyful conversations, those playful acts and deeds of the past, O noble one, I rejoice again and again.
ज्ञानम् एतन् मया प्राप्तं त्वया ज्ञानं यथानघ । माण्डव्यस्य प्रसादेन परमात्मप्रसादजम्
I have attained this knowledge through you, just as you, O sinless one, attained knowledge by the grace of Māṇḍavya, which arises from the grace of the Supreme Self.
अद्य कच्चिद् अदुःखस् त्वं कच्चिद् विश्रान्तवान् असि । परमे कारणे मेराव् इव भूमण्डलाधिप
Today, are you free from sorrow? Have you found rest in the Supreme Cause, like the lord of the earth upon Mount Meru?
कच्चित् परमकल्याण स्वात्मारामतया तव । प्रसादो जायते चित्ते शरदीव सरोऽम्भसि
O supremely auspicious one, does your mind find serenity in the joy of your own Self, like a lake’s waters in autumn?
कच्चित् करोषि समया सुप्रसन्नगभीरया । दृष्ट्या सुभग कार्याणि कार्याण्य् एव नराधिप
Do you, O fortunate king, perform your duties with a gaze that is clear and deep, accomplishing noble deeds at the right time?
निराधिव्याधयो धीराः कच्चित् सम्पन्नशालयः । जनतास् तव देशेषु तिष्ठन्ति विगतज्वरम्
Are the wise in your lands free from affliction and disease, their homes prosperous, and your people living without distress?
कच्चिद् उद्दामफलिनी फलिनीव लतानता । धरा तव फलापूरैर् भृशं धारयति प्रजाः
Is your earth, like a luxuriant vine heavy with fruit, abundantly sustaining your people with the fullness of its yields?
कच्चित् तव दिगन्तेषु चन्द्रस्येवांशुपञ्जरम् । तुषारनिकराकारं प्रसृतं पावनं यशः
Does your pure fame, like the moon’s radiant beams, spread to the ends of the quarters, shining with the brilliance of clusters of snow?
कच्चिद् गुणशतैर् एता दिशो निर्विवरीकृताः । त्वया सरोऽम्भसा बन्धो बिसानाम् इव भित्तयः
Have you, with hundreds of virtues, filled all directions, as a lake’s water fills the spaces among lotus stems, leaving no gap?
कच्चित् कलमकेदारकोणस्थाणुषु हर्षुलाः । प्रतिग्रामं कुमार्यस् ते गायन्त्य् आनन्ददं यशः
Do joyful maidens in every village, standing by the corners of fields of blossoming reeds, sing your fame that brings delight?
कुशलं तव धान्येषु धनेषु विभवेषु च । भृत्येष्व् अथ कलत्रेषु पुत्रेषु नगरेषु च
Is all well with your grains, your wealth, your prosperity, your servants, your wife, your children, and your city?
आधिव्याधिविहीनेयं कच्चित् कायलता तव । फलं फलति पुण्याख्यं यद् इहामुत्र चोदितम्
Is your body, free from affliction and disease, bearing the fruit called merit, which is spoken of in this world and the next?
आपातरमणीयेषु पर्यन्तात्यन्तवैरिषु । कच्चिद् विषयसर्पेषु सविरागं मनस् तव
Amidst sense-objects, which at first seem delightful but ultimately become great enemies, does your mind remain detached?
अहो बत चिरं कालम् आवां विश्लेषम् आगतौ । कालेन श्लेषितौ भूयो वसन्ताद्रितटाव् इव
Ah, indeed, after a long time we have come to separation; now, by time, we are joined again, like spring and the mountain slope.
न ता जगति विद्यन्ते सुखदुःखदशास् सखे । जीवद्भिर् या न दृश्यन्ते संयोगजवियोगजाः
O friend, there are no states of happiness or sorrow in this world that are not seen by the living, arising from union and separation.
तथैतास्व् अतिदीर्घासु दशास्व् अन्यत्वम् आगताः । भूयो वयम् अपि श्लिष्टाश् चित्रा हि नियतिर् विधेः
In these very long conditions, we have become different, yet now we are joined again; for the destiny ordained by fate is indeed wondrous.
भगवन् नियतेर् अस्या गतिं दीपगतेर् इव । दैविक्याः को हि जानाति गम्भीरां विस्मयप्रदाम्
O venerable one, who indeed knows the course of this destiny, deep and astonishing like the movement of a lamp's flame, belonging to the divine?
त्वम् अहं च वियोज्यातिदूरे दूरदशासु च । अद्य सङ्घटितौ भूयः किम् असाध्यम् अहो विधेः
You and I, separated and far apart in distant states, are today brought together again; ah, what is impossible for fate?
वयं त्व् अद्य महासत्त्व भृशं कुशलिनस् स्थिताः । त्वदागमनपुण्येन परां पावनतां गताः
But today, O noble one, we are truly well and firmly established; by the merit of your arrival, we have attained supreme purity.
ईषत् त्वदागमक्षीणपापानां पुण्यपादपैः । तथा फलितम् अस्माकं न यथा वयम् आकुलाः
Because our sins have been slightly diminished by your coming, the fruits we have obtained from the trees of merit are not such that we are troubled.
सर्वास् सम्पत्तयो ऽस्माकं राजर्षे संस्थिताः पुरे । भवदागमनेनाद्य प्रयाताश् शतशाखताम्
All prosperity had previously resided in our city, O royal sage, but today, with your arrival, it has branched out into hundreds of directions.
विकिरति परितो रसायनानाम् इव निकरं मधुरं महानुभाव । तव वचनम् अवेक्षणं च पुण्यं परमपदप्रतिमो हि साधुसङ्गः
Your words, O great one, and your very presence, scatter all around a sweet flood of nectar; for the company of the virtuous is indeed like the supreme abode of merit.
अथैवम्प्रायया तत्र विश्रम्भकथया चिरम् । प्राक्तनस्नेहगर्भिण्या स्थित्वोवाचायुधाभिधः
Then, after spending a long time there in intimate conversation filled with old affection, Ayudhābhidha spoke.
