Having their tendencies at rest in supreme knowledge, they see this waking state as if half-asleep, with a mind established in the Self.
Those whose minds are established in the Self alone do not delight in pleasant things, nor are they disturbed by suffering, for their experience is of one taste in the Self.
Ever awakened and unattached, they accept actions as they come, just as a mirror receives reflections, without desire.
They remain established in themselves while awake, and though they appear to act in the world like children, their inner disposition is like deep sleep.
You have attained the state of the unconquered; having experienced within the single day of Brahma the abundance of qualities, now, O great soul, attain here itself the supreme, unchanging abode of fortune.
When Padmanabha, who beholds the marvels of the three worlds with the jewel-casket of the universe, spoke thus with words cool as moonlight—
That body, named Prahlada, with lotus-like eyes opening wide, spoke gentle words, steadfast and composed, having grasped the method of reflection.
For a long time, O Lord, I have seen you inwardly with pure understanding; now, by good fortune, I see you outwardly with my eyes, O Lord of the gods.
I existed in the infinite vision of pure awareness, O great Lord, freed from all intentions, like space within the sky, immaculate.
Not by grief, nor by delusion, nor by thoughts of renunciation, nor by the act of abandoning the body, nor by fear of worldly existence—
For when the One alone exists, where is grief, where is loss? Where is the body, where is the world, where is stability, where is fear or fearlessness?
By my own pure will alone, arising from myself, thus indeed, O god, I am established effortlessly in the all-pervading, pure state.
Alas, I am dispassionate, I will abandon the world—such thoughts, O Lord of desires, bring agitation of joy and sorrow to those whose minds are not awakened.
If there is no body, there is no suffering; if there is a body, suffering is mine—such thoughts, like the venomous serpent of doubt, seize only the fool.
This is happiness, this is suffering, this is not mine, this is mine—such wavering of mind belongs only to the deluded, not to the wise.
‘He is another, I am different’—such blind tendencies of ignorance are cast far away by the wise, as night is by the rays of the sun.
‘This must be abandoned, this must be accepted’—such false confusion of mind leads the inner intelligence into madness, making the wise seem as the ignorant.
O you whose eyes are like lotus petals, when all is the Self, in you, how can there be any second notion of acceptance or rejection?
The entire world, appearing as knowledge, abides in both being and non-being; what is there to reject or accept, and what is there that must or must not be abandoned?
Simply contemplating, by its own nature, the seer and the seen, for a moment I found rest within—myself in the Self, within the Self.
Free from both existence and non-existence, devoid of acceptance and rejection—thus I was before, and thus I remain now.
Having attained my own peace, O all-pervading one, who has reached the state of the noble, I shall do, O Mahadeva, whatever pleases you.
You, O lotus-eyed one, are worthy of worship in the three worlds; therefore, you should accept from me the worship that has come as is proper.
Having spoken thus, the lord of the Daityas, before the one who reclines on the ocean of milk, took up the vessel of offering, like a mountain holding the full moon.
With weapons, with a host of apsaras, with gods and the king of birds, he worshipped Govinda, the foremost in all the three worlds.
Having worshipped him, the Lord of the worlds, who pervades both the inner and outer realms, and who was seated, the Lord of the Lotus addressed him.
Rise, O king of the destroyers of demons, take your seat upon the throne; for I myself will soon perform your consecration.
May those who have gathered here upon hearing the sound of the conch—siddhas, sādhyas, and hosts of gods—bring you auspiciousness.
Having spoken thus, the lotus-eyed one seated the demon upon the lion-throne, as a cloud is set upon the summit of Mount Meru at the end of yoga.
Then Hari, with the great oceans such as the Milk Ocean summoned, and with the streams of the Ganges and other rivers, as well as with the waters of all sacred fords,
