You are the fragrance in the flower of the body, the nectar and non-nectar in the body’s moon; you are the taste in the tree of the body, and you are the coolness in the body’s snow.
Within you abides the affection made of consciousness in the milk and ghee of the body; you dwell inside this body like fire within wood.
You are the supreme taste in waters, the radiance even among lights; you are the knower of objects, and you are the illuminator of all lights.
You are the vibration of all winds, the exhilaration of the mind-elephant; you are the brilliance and sharpness of the flame of intelligence.
By your power, illusion dissolves somewhere like a lamp, and like a lamp, it arises again elsewhere from some source.
In you, who revolve as the world-process, the circles of objects exist, just as bracelets, armlets, and anklets exist in gold.
This is you, this is I, and so on—by such words and the like, you yourself praise and speak of yourself, playfully, by your own self.
Just as a cloud, moved by a gentle breeze, appears in the sky in forms resembling elephants, horses, and men, so too are you perceived in various forms by the senses.
Just as flames in fire shine forth in shapes like horses and elephants, in the same way, you, undivided and unchanged, dwell in all created things as their appearances.
You are the unbroken thread stretched through the pearls of universes; you are the field for the crops of elements, the one who pours the nectar of consciousness.
That which is unreal and unmanifest becomes apparent through you, just as the true taste of meat is known by the tongue.
Even if the splendor of an object exists, it does not remain if you are not present—like the beauty and charm of a woman for one whose sight is gone.
Even if something exists here, it does not attain reality unless it is perceived by you—just as one's own beauty does not bring satisfaction unless reflected in a mirror.
Without you, the body rolls on the ground like a log or a clod of earth; though present, it is as if absent, like the night-watches without the sun.
The sequence of pleasure and pain, upon reaching you, is dissolved—just as darkness vanishes upon the arrival of light, or frost before the sun.
By the very act of beholding you, happiness and the like come into existence, just as colors such as white appear in the morning through the light of the sun.
Once they have attained their own nature, they perish at the very moment of connection; just as darkness vanishes instantly when a lamp is seen.
The darkness, which is the essence of darkness, becomes manifest when the lamp is absent; but at the moment of contact with the lamp, it arises and then disappears.
In the same way, the glory of happiness and sorrow, upon seeing you who are free from disease, arises immediately and, with universal destruction, is extinguished.
Because of its fragility, it cannot remain even for a moment here; like the subtle portion of time called the hundred-thousandth part of a blink, so is the delicate time-measure.
The conception of happiness, sorrow, and the rest is fleeting, perishable, and subtle; it flashes forth by your grace, and dissolves upon seeing you.
Born in the instant of your vision, and perishing in the instant of your vision, it is both dead and born; who can perceive this?
How can a thing that is unstable even for a moment serve as an agent or instrument? How can a garland be strung with waves shaped like lotuses?
If a thing, once arisen and then destroyed, could perform actions, then this world would string together a garland made of lightning threads.
Though you remain established in discernment, in the mind of the wise, you neither grasp nor abandon this prosperity, which consists of pleasure and the like, while remaining steady.
You, who are undiscriminating, are the embodied self by mere chance; there is no need for me to describe such a nature, which is far from my pure state.
By you, who are desireless, partless, and free from ego, doership is assumed, whether you exist or do not exist.
Victory to you, whose form is bold and splendid! Victory to you, devoted to peace! Victory to you, who transcend all scriptures! Victory to you, who are the abode of all scriptures!
Victory to the born, victory to the unborn! Victory to the wounded, victory to the unwounded! Victory to being, victory to non-being! Victory to the conqueror, victory to the unconquered!
I shine forth, I become tranquil, I remain, and I have gone beyond. I am victorious, I conquer, I live. Salutations to myself, salutations to you.
