नमो द्रष्ट्रे नमस् त्वष्ट्रे नमो ऽनन्तविकासिने । नमस् सर्वस्वभावाय नमस् ते सर्वगामिने
Salutations to the Seer, salutations to the Creator, salutations to the One of infinite expansion, salutations to the One whose nature is all, salutations to You who move everywhere.
प्रतिजन्म चिरं बह्व्यो दीर्घदुःखवता मया । त्वया मायोपदग्धेन दिग्धेन महतैनसा
In every birth, for a long time, I have endured many prolonged sufferings, afflicted by You through maya, stained by great wrongdoing.
आलोकिता लोकदशा दृष्टा दृष्टान्तदृष्टयः । न प्राप्तस् त्वं त्वया येन किञ्चिद् आसादितं भवेत्
I have observed the conditions of the world, seen various examples and viewpoints, yet nothing has been attained by You through which anything could be acquired.
सर्वं मृत्काष्ठपाषाणवारिमात्रम् इदं जगत् । नेहास्ति त्वदृते देव यत्प्राप्तौ नाभिवाञ्छ्यते
All this world is merely earth, wood, stone, and water; O Lord, apart from You, there is nothing here whose attainment is truly desired.
देवायम् अद्य लब्धो ऽसि दृष्टो ऽस्य् अधिगतो ऽसि च । सम्प्राप्तो ऽसि गृहीतो ऽसि नमस् ते ऽस्तु न मुच्यसे
O Lord, today You have been obtained, seen, reached, attained, and grasped; salutations to You—may You never be lost.
यो ऽक्ष्णोः कनीनिकारश्मिजालप्रोतवपुस् स्थितः । देवो दर्शनरूपेण कथं सो ऽन्तर् न दृश्यते
The Lord who abides as the form woven by the rays of the pupil in the eye, as the essence of vision—how is it that He is not seen within?
यस् त्वक्पुष्पे स्पृशन् स्पर्शगन्धं तैलं तिले यथा । स्पर्शम् अन्तः करोत्य् एष स कथं नानुभूयते
Just as touch, fragrance, and oil are present within the sesame seed, so this One makes touch within the flower's skin—how is He not experienced?
यश् शब्दश्रवणाद् अन्तश् शब्दशक्तिं परामृशन् । रोमाञ्चं जनयत्य् अङ्गे स दूरस्थः कथं भवेत्
He who, upon hearing a sound, perceives its subtle power within and experiences goosebumps on his body—how can such a one be considered distant from it?
जिह्वापल्लवलग्नानि स्वतीतस्याङ्गतो ऽपि च । स्वदन्ते यस्य वस्तूनि स्वदते स न कस्य वा
Whatever things are attached to the tip of the tongue, even if they are from another's body, whoever tastes them—whose are they not tasted by?
पुष्पगन्धान् उपादाय घ्राणहस्तेन देहकम् । य आलेपयति प्रीत्या कस्यासौ न मुखे स्थितः
Taking the fragrance of flowers with the hand of the nose, whoever joyfully applies it to the body—how is he not situated in the mouth?
वेदवेदान्तसिद्धान्ततर्कपौराणगीतिभिः । यो गीतस् स कथं ह्य् आत्मा विज्ञातो याति विस्मृतिम्
One who sings with the conclusions of the Vedas, Vedanta, logic, Puranas, and songs—how can such a self, once known, fall into forgetfulness?
सैवेह देव भोगाली सुभगापीयम् अद्य मे । अन्तर् न स्वदते स्वच्छे त्वयि दृष्टे परापरे
O divine one, this delightful array of pleasures is today pleasing to me; yet, within, it does not taste sweet, when you, the pure and supreme, are seen.
त्वया विमलदीपेन भानुः प्रकटतां गतः । त्वया शीततुषारेण चन्द्रश् शिशिरतां गतः
By you, the sun has become manifest with the lamp of purity; by you, the moon has become cool with the chill of snow.
त्वयैते गुरवश् शैलास् त्वयैते द्युचरा धृताः । त्वयैवेयं धरा धीरा त्वयैवाम्बरम् अम्बरम्
By you, these mighty mountains stand; by you, these sky-dwellers are sustained; by you alone, this steadfast earth exists; by you alone, the sky is sky.
दिष्ट्या मत्ताम् असि प्राप्तो दिष्ट्या त्वत्ताम् अहं गतः । अहं त्वं त्वम् अहं देव दिष्ट्या भेदो ऽस्ति नावयोः
By fortune, you have attained intoxication; by fortune, I have attained you. I am you, you are me, O divine one; by fortune, there is no division between us.
अहं त्वम् इति शब्दाभ्यां पर्यायाभ्यां महात्मनः । तव वा मम वा साधो सम्पृक्ताभ्यां नमो नमः
Salutations again and again to the great Self, who is called by the interchangeable words 'I' and 'you', O noble one, whether as yours or as mine, when these are blended together.
नमो मह्यम् अनन्ताय निरहङ्काररूपिणे । नमो मह्यम् अरूपाय नमश् शमनसद्मने
Salutations to myself, the infinite one, whose nature is free from ego; salutations to myself, the formless one, salutations to the abode of peace.
मय्य् आत्मनि समे स्वच्छे साक्षिभूते निराकृतौ । दिक्कालाद्यनवच्छिन्ने स्वात्मन्य् एवेह तिष्ठति
In me, the Self, equal, pure, witness-like, without form, unconfined by direction, time, or anything else—only my own Self abides here.
मनः प्रक्षोभम् आयाति स्फुरन्तीन्द्रियसंविदः । शक्तिर् उल्लसति स्फारा प्राणापानप्रवाहिनी
The mind becomes agitated; the senses’ awareness flashes forth; the power that moves the currents of prāṇa and apāna shines expansively.
वहन्ति देहयन्त्राणि कृष्टान्य् आशावरत्रया । चर्ममांसास्थिदिग्धानि मनस्सारथिमन्ति च
The body-machines, drawn by the triple cord of desire, carry along, smeared with skin, flesh, and bone, and having the mind as their charioteer.
अयं संविद्वपुर् अहं न क्वचिन् न कृतास्पदः । देहः पततु वोदेतु स्वयाभिमतयेच्छया
This awareness-body, which is 'I', is never established anywhere; let the body fall or move as it wishes, by its own will.
चिराद् अहम् अहं जातस् स्वात्मलाभश् चिराद् अयम् । चिराद् उपशमं यामि कल्पस्यान्ते जगद् यथा
After a long time, I have become 'I'; after a long time, I have attained my own Self; after a long time, I go to peace, as the world does at the end of an age.
चिरात् संसारगामित्वाद् दीर्घसंसारवर्त्मनि । विश्रान्तो ऽस्मि चिरश्रान्तः कल्पस्यान्त इवानिलः
After a long time, journeying through saṃsāra on its long path, I, long weary, have found rest, like the wind at the end of an age.
सर्वातीताय सर्वाय तुभ्यं मह्यं नमो नमः । तेभ्यो ऽपि च नमो ऽस्त्व् एव ये त्वां मां प्रवदन्ति वा
Salutations again and again to you, who transcend all, who are all, to you, to me; and also salutations indeed to those who speak of you or of me.
अखिलानन्तसम्भोगा न स्पृष्टा दोषदृष्टिभिः । जयत्य् अकृतसम्भारा साक्षिता परमात्मनः
Victorious is that witness of the Supreme Self, untouched by faults or their perception, whose enjoyment of all endless pleasures is not experienced, and who has made no preparations.
आत्मन् पुष्प इवामोदश् शस्त्रपिण्ड इवानलः । तिले तैलम् इवास्मिंस् त्वं सर्वत्र वपुषि स्थितः
O Self, just as fragrance is in a flower, fire in a piece of wood, or oil in sesame seeds, so you are present in every body.
हंसि पासि ददासि त्वम् अवस्फूर्जसि वल्गसि । अनहङ्कृतिरूपो ऽपि चित्रेयं तव मायिता
You kill, you protect, you give, you thunder, you leap—yet, though your nature is without ego, this wondrous magic of yours appears.
जयसीश ज्वलद्दीप्तिस् सर्वम् उन्मीलयञ् जगत् । जयस्य् अपगतारम्भं जगद् भूयो निमीलयन्
Victory to you, Lord, blazing with radiant light, who opens up the entire world; and victory to you, who, having withdrawn all initiative, closes the world again.
परमाणोस् तवैवान्तर् इदं संसारमण्डलम् । वटश् च वटधानायां बभूवास्ति भविष्यति
Within even an atom of you lies this entire sphere of worldly existence; and the banyan tree exists, has existed, and will exist within the seed of the banyan.
हयद्विपरथाकारैर् यद्वत् खे दृश्यते ऽम्बुदः । तद्वद् आलक्ष्यसे देव पदार्थशतविभ्रमैः
Just as a cloud in the sky appears in forms of horses, elephants, and chariots, so, O Lord, you are perceived through the manifold illusions of countless objects.
