Indeed, O Lord, as soon as you are seen, the thief of pride and ego flees away, just as a thief escapes at sunrise.
When that demon of ego, which is unreal, has vanished, I remain perfectly at peace, utterly tranquil, like a tree without branches.
I am calmed, I am completely extinguished, I am awake and fully aware; released by the thief, I am at peace at last after a long time.
I have attained coolness within, my thirst for mirages is stilled; like a mountain bathed by the rains of the monsoon, the forest fire is quenched.
For one who reflects upon this state of being cleansed—'I am purified'—what delusion remains, what sufferings, what desires, what heat?
Heaven, hell, liberation, and other such illusions arise only when ego is present; they appear on the wall, not in the open sky.
In a mind swollen with ego, the wonder of the essence does not shine, just as saffron dye does not glow on a faded cloth.
In the sky of the mind, clear as autumn, where the waters of ego have dried up and the substance of craving is absent, shines the radiance of pure clarity.
To you, my Self, the lake of bliss, free from the mire of ego and with inner serenity, I bow again and again.
To you, my Self, the mountain of bliss, where the clouds of ego have vanished and the fire of desire is extinguished, at rest—salutations again and again.
To you, my Self, the ocean of bliss, whose senses are pacified and whose inner fire of thought is spent, I bow again and again.
To you, my inner Self, whose lotus of bliss is in full bloom and whose great waves of thought are calm, I bow again and again.
To you, my inner Self, who dwells in the heart-lotus, whose wings are the rays of consciousness, and who is the swan of all minds, I bow again and again.
To you, ever full moon of the Self, whose form is adorned with the arts yet is partless and boundless, always shining and completely perfect, I bow again and again.
To you, ever-risen, cool, destroyer of the great darkness of the heart, all-pervading, invisible, sun of consciousness, I bow again and again.
Salutations again and again to the lamp of consciousness, which is like a flame without oil, whose wick has transcended the wick, whose steadfastness rests in its own nature.
My mind, scorched by the fire of thought, has been cooled by the mind itself; within, I have cut and tempered it, as iron is forcibly tempered by iron.
Having cut off the senses with the senses, and the mind with the mind, having severed egoism with egoism, I remain, victorious, as the residue.
Having subdued one state with another, and cut off craving with non-craving, having crushed ignorance with wisdom, I have united knowledge and non-knowledge within myself.
When the mind is cut off by the mind and egoism is gone, when one state dissolves into another, I stand alone, established in my own nature.
My body remains as a machine, devoid of states, devoid of egoism, without mind, without intention, its essence purified by the sole vibration.
This supreme peace, my liberation, has arisen—spontaneously conceived, engaged in the single resolve of the infinite universe, endowed with the highest tranquility.
I have become free from the demon of egoism, the goblin of delusion pacified; released from the form of hope, I am born, free from fever.
Having severed the cords of craving, the bird of difficult ego has flown from the cage of my body; I do not know where it has gone.
When the nest of dense ignorance was scattered from the tree of the body, I do not know where the bird of 'I'-ness has flown.
By fortune, the companion called 'tendency' has died, destroyed by the ashes of enjoyment, faded by the long misfortune of vain hope, and struck by the fear of pleasure.
For so long, what was I? What was this mind, by which I, through mere illusion, attained such firm egoism?
Today I am born; today I am endowed with great wisdom, for I am utterly freed from the vast dark cloud of ego.
This self, the blessed one, has been seen and realized within by me; it has been obtained, experienced in the body, and established with awareness.
The mind has reached peace: it is without a base, without thought, without desire, skillfully freed from the illusion of ego, devoid of longing, cleansed of the stain of passion, and free from curiosity.
