That consciousness, enveloped within by impurities made of desire and aversion, is truly unable to rise up, like a bird bound by a tether.
Indeed, all these people, through the fabrication of imagination, have fallen into the net of delusion, like birds deprived of sight.
This path, obstructed by the snares of imagination and the guards of sense-objects, was not seen by my forefathers.
After flickering for only a few days upon the earth, those wretches are lost by that (delusion), like gnats in crevices.
If those seekers of pleasure and pain had known the truth, they would not have fallen, their hopes destroyed, into the dark pits of existence and nonexistence.
Creatures, overcome by the duality and delusion arising from desire and aversion, become like insects fallen into a crevice in the earth.
For one whose mind's fabrications—actions done and undone, and the mirage of calculation—have been stilled by the cloud of true understanding, that one truly lives.
How could there be any stains or heat of imagined blemishes in this pure, uninterrupted, stainless radiance—like the light of the moon?
Salutations to my own Self, the undivided consciousness-Self; O divine jewel of the seen and unseen worlds, at last you have been attained—how wondrous!
You have been touched, found, revealed, and after long ages, rescued from all doubts; you are what you are—salutations to you!
Salutations to me, to you, the infinite; to you, to me, the auspicious Self; salutations to the God beyond gods, the supreme, the highest Self.
I bow to that which is full like a cloudless moon, its own form unmasked by phases, rejoicing in its own body, self-established, self-risen, and of its own essence.
That which is shaped by the sound 'Om', free from all modification, is the Self alone—this entire world, whatever exists within it.
This consciousness, though it transcends fat, bone, flesh, and marrow, and dwells within, illuminates the sun and others like a lamp.
It heats like fire, savors nectar as nectar, and enjoys sensory experiences as a king enjoys pleasures.
Though standing, it does not stand; though sitting, it does not sit; though moving, it does not move. Though peaceful, it remains engaged in activity; though acting, it is untouched.
Whether before, now, or later; here, there, or in both places; whether concealed or revealed, it remains equal in all states.
Through thoughts of arising, merging, and absence, it abides, revolving the world from Brahma down to grass.
Always composed of perpetual movement, yet ever unmoving; always inactive, untouched even more than space.
It stirs minds like the wind stirs leaves, and drives the senses like a charioteer drives his horses.
Though always laboring in the house of the body like one greatly afflicted, it is sovereign in itself, established in well-being, enjoying as the mighty.
This alone is always to be sought, praised, and meditated upon; by this one crosses beyond the delusion of old age and death.
This is extremely easy to attain and well understood, like a close friend; the bee dwells in the lotus-cave of the body for all.
Even without being drawn or called, it is found within one's own body; if invoked even a little, it appears instantly before one.
For one who serves this, full of all wealth, there is neither pride nor arrogance, just as for a lord of riches.
As fragrance is in flowers, oil in sesame seeds, and taste in varieties of flavor, so the divine abides in bodies.
Due to lack of inquiry, though this consciousness dwells in the heart, it is not known for a long time, like a dear friend standing in front yet unseen.
When, through inquiry, this supreme Lord is fully known, supreme bliss arises, as when a beloved friend is found.
When this supreme giver of boundless joy is seen as the true friend, those visions arise by which bondage is dissolved.
All bonds are broken everywhere, all enemies are destroyed; desires do not cut the mind, just as a poorly made house does not hold.
