How could there be, within, the notion 'I am this named self' without any support? This supposed smallness was only due to my endless form.
The idea 'this is the world, this is myself' is a mere illusion; what body, or what absence of body, can there be for the infinite consciousness?
My ancestors, whose minds were feeble, were pitiable indeed; abandoning this empire, they delighted in the pursuit of wealth.
Where is this great vision, filled and expanded by Brahman, and where is the pleasure, like that of a fearful reptile, in the enjoyments of royal power?
This pure, consciousness-filled vision, endless in its enjoyments and endowed with supreme peace, prevails over all other visions.
Salutations again and again to the one whose nature is pure consciousness, who abides within all beings, whose form is the inner awareness, and who is myself.
I have conquered; I am born anew, freed from the worn-out cycle of worldly existence. I have attained my true self; I live and I am victorious.
Having abandoned the everlasting sovereignty of supreme knowledge, I do not delight in the joyless glories and sufferings of royal power.
Shame on that pitiable, ignorant one—like a worm in the grandfather’s wood—who, on this earth, craves only what is seen in wood and water.
What has the teacher really accomplished by offering oblations made of ignorance, using substances composed of ignorance, to one who is ignorance itself?
After obtaining for a few years this village-like world, what truly fitting thing did Hiraṇyakaśipu ever gain?
Even after enjoying hundreds of worldly kingdoms, if one has not tasted the bliss of tranquility, then truly nothing has been enjoyed here.
By that which brings nothing, nothing is truly attained; but having attained the supreme nectar within, one is completely fulfilled and has gained everything, undivided.
A fool abandons the right path and does not attain moderation or wisdom; just as a camel, having left the easy way, goes toward thorns, and not otherwise.
Who, having abandoned this supreme vision, would delight in a kingdom that has been burned? What wise person, having given up the sweetness of sugarcane, would drink the bitter juice of neem?
All my ancestors were indeed fools, for they abandoned this vision and became attached to the hardships of kingship.
Where are the blooming groves of Nandana, and where are the scorched deserts? Where are these peaceful, awakened visions, and where is self-awareness in sense enjoyments?
There is nothing in the three worlds that is to be desired as kingship; everything truly exists in the essence of consciousness—so why is it not experienced?
By consciousness, which is ever-present, pure, timeless, and changeless, everything, everywhere, at all times, in every way, is easily attained.
The solar power, the fiery energy, the nectar-flowing lunar force, the creative power of Brahma, greatness, majesty, the might of Indra, and the sovereignty over the three worlds—
The highest fullness, the power of Shiva, the victory-bestowing fortune, the might of Vishnu, the mind-born power, the swift-moving strength, and the force of the wind—
The fiery power is the capacity to burn, the milky one is the delight of taste; the silent one is the attainment of great austerity, and the Brāhaspati-like is knowledge.
The aerial is movement through the sky, the mountain-born is steadfastness; the oceanic is depth, and the Meru-like is great elevation.
The prosperous is even fortune, the Buddhist is gentleness, the intoxicating is passionate restlessness; the spring-like is flowerfulness, and the autumnal is abundance of ripened grain.
The Yaksha-like is illusoriness, the sky-like is stainlessness; the wintry is coldness, and the summer-like is the intensity of heat.
And so, there are many others as well, whose nature is formed by place, time, and action; arising in various forms and modifications, they exist within the womb of the three times.
These diverse powers, clear and of their own nature, unchanging, are enacted by consciousness through the supreme, measureless art, free from calculation.
Consciousness, free from conceptualization, pervades equally all the hundreds of objects, just as sunlight falls impartially.
The multitude of objects, resting within the treasury of all desires, and untouched by the threefold time, is experienced by the earth in a single moment.
Thus, pure consciousness, which is established in all states of the vast world-appearance and remains untouched across the three times, perceives everything as its own essence.
