These hundreds of rows of objects—pots, cloths, and the like—of the world are reflected in this vast mirror-like sky.
That which is invisible to all beings and attainable by those whose minds have dissolved—this is seen by the wise as the supreme sky, being of its very nature.
This, being old in the old, perishing in the perishable, and existing in worldly objects as both real and unreal, stands like the reflection of the sun.
This manifold cluster of appearances arises, adorned with the bees of conduct, from this tree of causes.
From this, the wavering structure of worldly existence emerges, rich with the thickets of various trees, like a forest spreading from a mountain.
He is undivided among all who dwell within the three worlds, from Brahma down to a blade of grass, the consciousness that illuminates all.
This is that 'I', without beginning or end, of all forms, abiding within the moving and unmoving beings as their own inner experience.
These countless bodies—immobile and mobile—of this one, that one, or myself, are beyond reckoning.
This is that 'I', the one Self, who, by the power of my own experience, am the seer, the seeing, and the seen, with a thousand hands and eyes.
This is that 'I' who, in space, sport with the radiant body of the sun, or else move with the body of the wind.
This is my airy form, bearing the conch, discus, and mace; the summit of all good fortune shines in this world.
I have arisen here, always seated in the lotus posture, established in the absorption beyond thought, having attained supreme contentment.
I, taking the form of the three-eyed one, am the bee at Gauri’s lotus face; at the end of creation, I withdraw this world, as a tortoise draws in its limbs.
I, in the form of Indra, protect this threefold world, which has come in due order, just as an ascetic tends his hermitage.
I, as the essence, abide in the mass of grass, creepers, and bushes, and I raise them from the well of the field of consciousness, as one lifts a creeper.
For the sake of my own play, this beautiful spectacle of the world is spread out by me, who am self-born, just as a child plays with mud.
All this is offered into me; when beings attain me, they are absorbed; and even if this exists apart from me, it is truly nothing at all.
Whatever reflection appears in me, the vast mirror of consciousness, that alone exists; nothing else—therefore, nothing exists here apart from me.
In flowers I am fragrance; in lotus leaves I am sheen; in sheens I am the art of form, and in forms, I am the very experience.
Whatever is seen in this world, whether moving or unmoving, all of it is free from any conception; that supreme essence of consciousness, I am.
The pervasive, essence-filled power that arises with the emergence of the subtle and the gross—just as it is present in wooden logs, so am I present in all things.
Having attained that supreme reality, which abides within all objects, I manifest the diversity of consciousness by my own will.
Just as ghee is within milk, just as the essence-power is within water, so too am I, the power of consciousness, established within all beings.
This world, existing in the three times, abides only in my consciousness, devoid of the designation of 'object,' like a collection of things upon the earth.
With all directions filled as my womb, having abandoned all limitation and confusion, present everywhere, the supporter of all, I stand as the vast, sovereign ruler.
This unprecedented, unbound, lordless, unconquered, and unsolicited sovereignty over the world has come to me, pervading all.
Indeed, I am expanded as the all-pervading self; there is no 'me' apart from the self within the self, like the single ocean left after the wind at the end of an age has swept everything away.
I do not find any limit within myself, clear and self-luminous inside; I stir like a crippled reptile in a sea of milk-water.
This little hut of Brahman, called the world, is very narrow; like an elephant in a bilva fruit, my vast form cannot fit within it.
Even beyond the abode of Brahma, at the farthest end of reality, my form extends and still does not cease, but continues to expand.
