Gods such as Kubera, Yama, and Śakra brought gifts; Yakṣas, Vidyādharas, and Nāgas, eager for the opportunity to serve, also attended.
Rambha, Tilottama, and other celestial maidens, as well as the beautiful ladies of the Chamaris; rivers, oceans, mountains, directions, and intermediate directions—
All these came to that place of Badi for the purpose of service; and many other accomplished beings, dwellers in the depths of the three worlds, also arrived.
They saw Badi, absorbed in meditation, silence, and samadhi, unmoving like a mountain adorned with wondrous images, and respectfully bowed with their crowned heads.
Upon seeing him, those great asuras, having fulfilled their duties, bowed; and they became sluggish with sorrow, amazement, joy, and fear.
Then the ministers, considering what had occurred there, the danavas began to contemplate Bhargava, the guru, foremost among those who know everything.
After their contemplation, the daityas saw Bhargava, radiant, before them, appearing as if he had been conjured up, like a city of Gandharvas.
Honored by the groups of asuras and seated upon the guru's seat, Bhargava saw the lord of the danavas, absorbed in meditation and silence.
He rested for a moment and, gazing with affection, examined Badi with his sight, perceiving the exhaustion of worldly delusion.
The guru, his assembly illuminated as if by hundreds of rays from his teeth shining like the ocean of milk, spoke these words with a smile.
How wondrous this is: the demons, through their own contemplation, have attained pure vision; this venerable Badi has become accomplished.
Let this very one, remaining here just so, O foremost of the Danavas, attain stability in his own self and behold the state free from affliction.
Having come to rest, weary, with the burden of anxious thoughts diminished, with the mist of worldly striving calmed, he need not be instructed, O Danavas.
He has reached his own illumination by the dissolution of ignorance; as the sun's rays bring clarity when the clouds are stilled.
Indeed, in time, he will awaken by himself, like a dormant sprout emerging from its seed-case through its own awareness.
All you leaders of the Danavas, attend to your own duties; Badi will attain awakening from samadhi after a thousand years.
When the guru spoke thus, the demons abandoned their dry worries born of fear, joy, and sorrow, as trees shed withered blossoms.
Having established an assembly like that of Vairocani, and having arranged the seats as before, all the Asuras then stood absorbed in their own activities.
Men took to the earth, serpent-lords to the netherworld, planets to the sky, the hosts of gods to heaven; directions, mountains, lords of waters to caves, forest-dwellers and sky-dwellers went to the sky.
Then, after a thousand years had passed, the best of Asuras, the venerable Badi, was awakened by the sounds of celestial drums.
When Badi awoke, that city shone greatly, just as a lake of lotuses shines when the multitude of suns created by Brahma rises.
As soon as Badi awoke, and before the Danavas arrived, he reflected for a moment in the seat of meditation.
Ah, truly delightful is this path, cool and ultimate; having stood in it for a moment, I have attained supreme rest.
Therefore, relying on this very path, I shall dwell; what use have I for external powers enjoyed by you all?
Even in the shining orbs of Indra, waves of joy do not satisfy me as much as the states of inner consciousness do.
Thus, once again seeking rest, his mind dissolved; the demons blocked him like clouds obscuring the moon.
Seeing them, he pondered again, his gaze unsettled by their reverence; his form surrounded by those resembling mountain peaks.
For one whose mind is free from wavering, what is there to be gained? Let the mind, having been subdued, enter its own essence—enough.
I desire liberation—why? By whom was I bound before? Being unbound, I desire liberation; what childish mockery is this?
There is no bondage, nor liberation; my ignorance has come to an end. What use is the play of meditation to me, or what would study bring?
