Amidst the tumult of battle, the warriors stood with unwavering composure, their minds undisturbed by the actions of others. The conflict, though brimming with the wisdom of seeking out agitation and wrath, appeared almost dormant—like a slumbering giant, its fury held in check. Yet all around, the ceaseless clash of weapons and the thunderous blows awakened the dreadful spirit of war, which seemed to sing a wild song, rising with the tumult of destruction that echoed across the field. The ocean of battle churned, its waves formed not of water but of broken parasols and the dust of shattered weapons. It resembled a sea of sand, swirling with chaos. Fierce and swift, the mountain of battle filled the realms of kings with the echo of drums smashed to pieces, as if performing a cosmic dance in the sky at the end of an age. Arrows blazed, flashing like lightning from uplifted, dreadful bows, their sharp twangs resounding as they struck the peaks of mountains and carried forth a terrifying roar. In the midst of such devastation, voices cried out: “Alas! Fie! Before these fire-bright arrows, which break limbs and never cease their furious assault, let us quickly depart, friend. Let us go, for this is already the fourth day passing.” Then, the ocean of battle surged anew, waves of horses rushing forward in readiness, like a madman performing a wild dance. The sharp fins of arrows rested on shields and drums, while the hollows of the battlefield churned with the surging waves of horses and elephant troops, creating a tumultuous uproar. Warriors were surrounded by armies led by commanders wielding various weapons, amid crowds of intoxicated elephants and hosts both moving and unmoving. One warrior’s head spun like a mass of grass caught in the eddies of hundreds of wheels, enveloped by clouds of dust and illuminated by the flashing blades of swords. He was like a ship tossed amidst formations of crocodiles—broken and breaking warriors—echoing with the thunderous roar of great whirlpools and reverberating caverns. Scattered like mustard seeds among advancing formations of fish, the multitude of arrows and torn banners, he moved among whirlpools resembling the wounds of weapons in the ocean, like a giant timi fish navigating dense, tumultuous currents. Terrifying in appearance, clad in black iron, he and his army traversed the dreadful waters, trapped within lines of whirlpools and frightening mountains. Clouds of darkness formed from the mist of arrow-spray enveloped him, and the deep, resonant sound drowned out all other noises. Agitated by the rise and fall of severed heads, his warriors whirled within the inner circles of vortex formations. He rose up, fierce as a stormy wave, bristling with the bow of hardship and earrings of calamity, surging forth like a mighty billow from the netherworld, his army swelling fearlessly. Banners and parasols foamed in endless comings and goings, bearing the flood of a river of blood, with chariots and trees swept away in its current. Adorned with bubbles of great blood, elephantine in form, the current of his army churned with the waters of horses and elephants. The battle became astonishing to men, like a village suspended in the sky, unsteady as mountains shaken by the earthquake of dissolution. Horses and birds swam amidst the chaos, elephants tumbled on riverbanks, herds of frightened deer ran about, and the air resounded with tumultuous roars. Rows of arrows and spears made the battlefield unstable, trembling with the charge of horses and the weight of arrows. The cries of valiant heroes echoed like the roar of elephants, the caves of drums resounded, clouds of warriors spread forth, and the chiefs of warriors rolled about. The dust-cloud of the army expanded, peaks of warriors fell, bodies of splendid chariots flew, and circles of swords descended. Rising adorned with cloth and flower garlands, banners and umbrellas like clouds, he carried a flood of red rivers, scattering shields as he advanced. He became like the end of a great battle, tumultuous in swallowing the world, with fallen standards, umbrellas, banners, chariots, and infantry scattered everywhere. Weapons rained down pure and bright, shining like many suns, tormenting all people with intense suffering. Whirlpools of bows and lotus-shaped arrows flowed ceaselessly, while streaks of swords and stones flashed like lightning across the sky. Mountains of warriors fell into the ocean of blood, and machines and stones scattered across the sky like stars. Clouds of arrows filled the heavens like whirlpools of wheels, armies burned by weapons as if by fire, leaving gaps between worlds. Rain of weapons and thunder split the earth and mountains, crowds of people were crushed by falling elephants and groups of hills. Lines of arrows formed clouds over the army, covering earth and sky, and the clash of great forces stirred the ocean with a harsh roar. The battlefield was filled with fierce winds, stirred by waters, serpents, fires, and mountains, each absorbed in destroying the other, arising from the effects of weapons and calamities. Spears, swords, discs, arrows, darts, maces, clubs, and javelins resounded as they struck each other; blazing, they whirled by the hundreds in all ten directions, enacting the drama of the world's end, swept by the storm of dissolution. Among the slain, who resembled mountain peaks, rivers of flowing blood arose, like the sacred Ganges. Headless bodies danced, their swinging arms wild, mingling with their kin, while the dead lay scattered among men, elephants, horses, and chariots in the blood-filled waters. The armies became sparse and scattered, the fearful ones fleeing, broken and running in all directions. On the mountains of elephant corpses, among lines of resting clouds, the yakshas, rakshasas, and pisachas played in the ocean of blood. Among the great ones devoted to righteousness, endowed with virtue, strength, and purity—heroes lotus-born from noble families, who never turned back—duels arose, thundering like clouds, eager for mutual destruction, surging like the meeting of oceans.
