In the midst of the fierce battle, the sky was etched with lines at the tips of swiftly flowing streams, reverberating with the clamor of jhaṇajhaṇa sounds. Tumultuous roars mixed with heroic shouts echoed across the field, while arrows poured forth like a canopy of sunlight breaking through clouds. The battlefield blazed with the ringing of swords and the clashing of shields, fragments of weapons severed by mutual blows scattering across the heavens. Heroic arms moved with such force that celestial maidens fled swiftly, startled by the twanging of bows and the whirling wheels of chariots. The cries of battle, dense and buzzing like swarming bees, seemed to unite all into an absolute samadhi. Sharp showers of arrows severed heroic heads, the clashing of bodies producing a tumultuous ringing of armor. Weapons struck fiercely, accompanied by shouts of 'huṅ', and the waves of swiftly flowing streams surged in every direction, limitless. The tumult of weapon collisions, rattling seized by fists, and loud crackling and bursting sounds resounded everywhere. Swords clashed with roaring thunder, blazing weapons added to the din, and the battlefield was alive with the tumult of arrows and the cries of the wounded. ‘Dhag dhag dhag’ echoed as blood poured from wounds at the throat; severed arms and heads scattered, leaving the sky filled with fragments of broken swords. Hair was singed by sparks leaping from shattered shields, and the heavy clang of swords given by warriors as they fell echoed across the field. Blood rose in waves from elephants struck by spears, and the harsh sound of tusks grinding against tusks filled the air with fierce cries. Mighty maces crushed crowds, their thunderous noise resounding, while clusters of fallen heroes’ heads covered the sky like a spread of lotuses. Dust clouds thickened the air, raised by the arms of warriors and elephants, and the victorious seized the hair of slain enemies, retaliating fiercely against their foes. Terror grew as nails scratched at eyes, ears, and noses; chariots rolled on the trembling earth, overturned by charging elephants. The battlefield was adorned with blood-soaked garments from wounds caused by spears, and weapons flew in streams, shrouded by clouds of dust stirred up by the conflict. One warrior, proud as the sea whose waves are gathered into a single mass, was consumed by Death, who delighted in wild laughter and play. He thundered like clouds shattered by the mighty peaks of proud mountains and kingly elephants, wielding wheels, spears, and maces beside trees and riverbanks. Like a ram among warriors, he pierced the gaps between threads of arrows and the hollows of trees, his banner and canopy torn and scattered by the confusion of clouds. He rushed among the flying hosts of machines, stones, and wheels, his body torn by death, the cries of wounded warriors resounding fiercely. His head was wounded by cruel axes, his garment marked by the distant flashes of shattered swords. The earth was covered with spears and darts released in battle, the tumult of the army filled with the wild leaps of goblins and the swinging of maces. He stood tall in the sky, a gateway adorned with heroic spears and javelins; his sword was broken by Bhusunda, forming a ring in the heavens. Like a peacock among reeds and bamboo spears, his soldiers were honored by the king, rejoicing in the rain of swords and spears. Celestial nymphs, eager to seize the valiant, raised their arms in excitement while the quarters resounded with the clamor of warriors, their armlets trembling as they pursued the battle. Fierce soldiers were crushed by the forceful thrust of spears; elephants, no longer clever, had their ranks broken by the whirling of discus and chariot wheels. Maddened elephants fell together as axes descended in a rain of blows; warriors roared, swinging clubs, their enemies scattered and fleeing in terror. Chariots and trees were shattered by the impact of machines and stones; parasols, pale as lotuses, were torn apart by fierce swords. The earth was marked by dwindling armies, disturbed and scattered by missiles; the sides of elephants were crushed as headless trunks fell in heaps. Elephants were halted by the blows of goads and the shouts of mighty warriors; heroes skilled in the use of nooses lamented the loss of their companions. People fell like lotus petals, pierced by daggers that ripped open their bellies; the dance of Shiva was enacted, with tridents raised and faces fierce. The tumult of archers running, their quivers full, echoed like the cry of birds; warriors with slings and shields displayed their prowess, while others performed the dance of battle. Pressed by warriors with fists like thunderbolts, one soared through the sky like a falcon, his chariot cloth flying. Mighty elephants and horses were seized by the goad, banners of heroic kings tossed about, and the tumult was stirred by fierce blows of clubs and the chaos of battle. The earth was dug up by the pounding of tall palaces and towers; rows of stones in the world were shattered by arrows shot from doubled bows. Mad elephants were cut on both sides by saws; the battlefield was filled with rice grains as if from a giant mortar, and army birds were bound by chains like clouds. A rain of arrows fell like a flood of heroic warriors; the plumes of warriors danced wildly in the confusion, and the tumult of battle swirled like mountains shaken at the end of an age. Then, among the kings, warriors, ministers, and eager spectators, excited words arose. The sky, adorned with the heads of heroes, shone like stars—like a moving lotus in a lake or a flock of birds in flight. Winds reddened by streams of blood shone like the evening sky; these cloud-sun warriors gleamed at midday, their valor radiant amidst the chaos.
