In the course of their celestial journey, the two women traversed realms of astonishing diversity and wonder. In some places, the wind was cool and delightful, moistened by showers of moonbeams, offering gentle comfort. Elsewhere, the waters, trees, and mountains were scorched by burning fire, creating landscapes of intense heat. There were regions of utter silence, where not even the slightest breeze stirred, and in other places, the sunrise erupted like flames, as tall and fierce as mountains. They encountered the deep rumble of thick, rain-laden clouds, intoxicating the monsoon with their power. Yet in other areas, the path was blocked, rendered impassable by the tumultuous battles between gods and demons. Sometimes, swans of the sky-lake were summoned by melodious calls, while elsewhere, the wind swept through, plundering the lotuses along the celestial river Mandakini. Because of the presence of embodied beings and rivers such as the sacred Ganges, hollows had formed, filled with lively fish, sharks, and crocodiles leaping about. Some places resembled the depths of the underworld, the shadow cast by the earth from the sun, or the dark hollows of a crow; in certain regions, even the orbs of the moon and sun seemed to be swallowed up, shrouded in darkness. Elsewhere, magical groves of flowers flourished, stirred by the winds of heaven. Celestial women were startled as showers of flowers and snow fell upon them. The journey took them through the hollows of fig trees, swarming with mosquitoes and insects, and filled with beings from all three worlds. Having traversed these realms and released the sky, the excellent lady prepared once more to descend to earth. As the two women descended from the sky toward a mountain village, their awareness fixed in knowledge and mind, they beheld the earth below. Their vision penetrated deep, and they saw the lotus of the heart of a man, vast as the cosmic egg. This lotus had eight petals facing the directions, crowded with mountain-like filaments, and radiated the fullness of its own bliss. Within this heart-lotus, river-like filaments, stalks, and drops of dew shimmered. Bees wandered about in the night, and swarms of beings, like mosquitoes, filled the place. Groups of inner threads crowded together, covered with holes made by the gods, and streams of water carried them along, all shining with the radiance of daylight. Moist with sap and with swans wandering in the sky, this heart-lotus was a vessel for the contraction of night. Its lotus fibers were like the lord of serpents sunk in the mire of the netherworld. At times, its expanse caused the ocean itself to tremble, shaking the quarters. Below, it was a thorn to the endless demons and titans dwelling among the serpents. Its heart, the great seed, was enveloped by the tender creeper of demon-wounds, the source of seeds, delighting in union, and pervading the mountain-lord Earth. Within this vast region, the famed Jambudvīpa appeared, with its central pericarp, rivers as filaments, and cities and villages as stamens. Jambudvīpa was adorned by seven beautiful seeds, the lofty family-mountains, and its sky was spanned by the great central seed: the towering Meru at its heart. It was a cluster of lakes, icy droplets, forests, and herds of wild creatures. Within its circle of rays dwelled multitudes of people, gathering like clouds. This land, measured by hundreds of yojanas, was surrounded on all sides by seas, swarms of bees, and the four quarters lying in repose. Resting on the eight petals of the directions, with the hum of lotuses and bees, it was divided ninefold by its nine brother-kings. Spread across a hundred thousand yojanas, crowded with dust particles, and made steady by the arrangement of many regions, it was moistened by dew. Beyond the continent, twice its size, lay a ring traced by the salt ocean, encircling it outwardly like a curved forearm. Beyond that, twice the size again, was a ring shaped like a bracelet, filled with the waters of Śākadvīpa, spreading like the tendrils of the world. Further out, again twice the size, it was surrounded by a ring filled with the fresh, cool milk-ocean. Beyond that, again twice the size, it was encircled by a ring adorned with many peoples, known as Kuśadvīpa. Further still, again twice the size, it was surrounded by a ring of the curd-ocean, always nourishing hosts of gods. Then came a ring of Krauñcadvīpa, of the same measure, encircled by the Khātakhada, like a new royal city. Beyond that, a ring of the ghee-ocean of the same measure, and then a ring of Śalmalidvīpa, filled with immortals. Next, a line of the great ocean of the gods, white as flowers, and with the body of Śeṣa, appearing as if it had assumed the form of Hari. Then, a line of the Gomedaka island, of such measure, and likewise a line of sugarcane, pure as the slopes of the Himalayas. Following that, a line of Puṣkara island, twice as large, and finally a line of the sweet-water ocean, of such measure. Among the seven oceanic lines, in the southwestern direction, droplets of blazing fire from submarine volcanoes marked the region, like burning fuel in water. Then, ten times a crore in extent, shining with the radiance of heated gold, curved and splendid, fit for the enjoyment of celestial beings. According to the measure of the seven oceanic islands and golden earths, ten times greater below, it extended to the realm of Pātāla. With a deeply embedded ring, towering high, resembling a mass of caverns, winding along the path leading to Pātāla, it possessed a terrifying nature. From all this, ten times higher, the sky stretched forth, with all four directions, formidable with masses of caverns. It was adorned with a garland of blue lotuses, half-withered and bearing the form of darkness, jeweled peaks, lilies, lotuses, and water-lilies. Encircled by the vast mountain range of Lokāloka, whose lofty summits resembled the twisted locks of the fortune of the three worlds. Beyond all this, and tenfold greater in essence, lay a forest named 'the wanderer of unknown beings,' which protected all. Beyond all this, and tenfold greater in essence, it spread in all directions like pure water filling the sky. Thus, in their descent, the two women beheld the layered, wondrous universe, with all its realms, oceans, continents, and mysteries, each unfolding in ever-greater expanses, all resting within the vast lotus of the heart.
