In the depths of all beings dwells the one divine, hidden yet all-pervading. He is the innermost Self, witnessing every action, residing within each heart—solitary, untouched by any qualities, pure consciousness itself. Among the multitude who remain inert, He alone stands as the sovereign, the single seed from which countless forms arise. It is only the wise, who perceive Him established within themselves, who attain eternal happiness; none else can reach such bliss. He is the eternal among all that is eternal, the conscious among all who are conscious, the one who fulfills the desires of the many. To know this cause, one must turn to Sāṃkhya and Yoga; and by knowing the divine, liberation from all bondage is attained. In His presence, neither sun nor moon nor stars shine; even lightning and fire cannot illuminate. All shines only by His radiance—by His light, the entire world is illumined. He is the one swan amidst this world, the fire established in water. Knowing Him alone allows one to transcend death; there is no other path to liberation. He is the creator and knower of all, self-born, master of time, omniscient, lord of primordial matter and the field, the cause of bondage, liberation, and existence itself. Composed of that immortal essence, established in sovereignty, He is the protector of this world, pervading all. He eternally rules this universe, and there is no other cause for sovereignty. He who first created Brahmā and imparted the Vedas to him—He is the revealer of self-knowledge and wisdom. Seeking liberation, I take refuge in that divine. He is without parts or action, peaceful and faultless, stainless—the supreme bridge to immortality, like fire when its fuel is consumed. Only when humans can wrap space as if it were leather will the end of suffering come without knowing the divine. Through the power of austerity and by the grace of God, the sage Śvetāśvatara spoke rightly to those beyond the stages of life, imparting the highest purity, cherished by the assembly of sages. In the Vedānta, this supreme secret was revealed long ago, but it should not be given to one who lacks tranquility, nor to one who is not a son or worthy disciple. For those whose devotion to God is supreme, and who honor their teacher as they honor God, the meanings spoken here shine forth—indeed, they shine forth with brilliance.
