The wise one comes to recognize his own true self, perceiving the self within. In this realization, he rests at ease, just as a master reclines in comfort among his own people. He delights in their company, and they, in turn, delight in him. So too does this intelligent self rejoice with all its faculties, and these faculties, or selves, rejoice in the presence of the self. There was a time when even mighty Indra did not know this self. In his ignorance, the Asuras, the forces of opposition, gained power over him. But when Indra came to know his true self, he overcame and destroyed the Asuras. Through this knowledge, he attained supremacy, sovereignty, and lordship among all the gods. In the same way, whoever comes to know this self—truly know it—destroys all evils and rises to supremacy, sovereignty, and lordship over all beings. Such is the power and blessing for the one who knows thus, who truly knows thus.
