These are indeed the secret places; this Brahman was heated, and from that which was heated, fame, brilliance, senses, vigor, nourishment, and essence arose.
He uttered that syllable and approached the sun from all sides; and this is indeed that which, in the midst of the sun, appears as if agitated.
These are indeed the essences of the essences; for the Vedas are essences, and these are their essences. These are indeed the immortal among the immortals; for the Vedas are immortal, and these are their immortals.
That which is the first immortal, the Vasus live upon it, with Agni as their mouth; the gods do not eat nor drink, but seeing this immortal, they are satisfied.
They enter this very form, and from this form they arise.
He who knows this immortal, becoming one among the Vasus, with Agni as the mouth, is satisfied by seeing this immortal; he enters this very form and arises from this form.
As long as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, so long does he have sovereignty and lordship among the Vasus.
Now, that which is the second immortal, the Rudras live upon it, with Indra as their mouth; the gods do not eat nor drink, but seeing this immortal, they are satisfied.
They enter this very form, and from this form they arise.
He who knows this immortal, becoming one among the Rudras, with Indra as the mouth, is satisfied by seeing this immortal; he enters this very form and arises from this form.
As long as the sun rises twice from the south and sets in the north, so long does he have sovereignty and lordship among the Rudras.
Now, that which is the third immortal, the Adityas live upon it, with Varuna as their mouth; the gods do not eat nor drink, but seeing this immortal, they are satisfied.
They enter this very form, and from this form they arise.
He who knows this immortal, becoming one among the Adityas, with Varuna as the mouth, is satisfied by seeing this immortal; he enters this very form and arises from this form.
As long as the sun rises from the south and sets in the north twice, and rises in the west and sets in the east, so long does he have sovereignty and lordship among the Adityas.
Now, that which is the fourth immortal, the Maruts live upon it, with Soma as their mouth; the gods do not eat nor drink, but seeing this immortal, they are satisfied.
They enter only this form, and from this form they arise.
He who knows this immortal essence, becoming one among the Maruts, with Soma as his mouth, having seen this immortal, is satisfied; he enters only this form, and from this form he arises.
As long as the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, twice as much it rises in the north and sets in the south; so much is the dominion and sovereignty among the Maruts that he traverses.
Now, the fifth immortal essence is that which the Sādhyas live upon, with Brahman as their mouth; indeed, the gods neither eat nor drink, but having seen this immortal, they are satisfied.
They enter only this form, and from this form they arise.
He who knows this immortal essence, becoming one among the Sādhyas, with Brahman as his mouth, having seen this immortal, is satisfied; he enters only this form, and from this form he arises.
As long as the sun rises in the north and sets in the south, twice as much it rises upward and sets downward; so much is the dominion and sovereignty among the Sādhyas that he traverses.
Then, having risen upward from there, it neither rises nor sets, remaining alone in the middle; this is the verse.
There, it never sets nor rises at any time; O gods, by this truth, do not deprive me of Brahman.
Indeed, it neither rises nor sets for him; for him, there is only one day, who knows this Brahman-upanishad thus.
This Brahman was spoken by Brahmā to the progenitors, the progenitor to Manu, Manu to the offspring; this was spoken by Uddālaka Āruṇi to his eldest son.
Indeed, this Brahman should be told by the father to his eldest son, or to a devoted student.
It should not be told to anyone else, no matter if he were to give all this wealth, filled with water; only this is greater than that, only this is greater than that.
The Gāyatrī is indeed all this, whatever exists; speech is Gāyatrī, and speech is indeed all this, for it sings and protects.
