In the vast expanse of the cosmos, the Supreme Lord, Śiva, reveals his countless forms and qualities. He is at once affectionate and unaffectionate, unconquered and the great sage, manifest as a tree with a banner of a tree, fire itself, and the bearer of wind. As Gaṇḍalī, he supports Meru and reigns as lord of the gods. His head is the Atharva Veda, his mouth the Sāma Veda, and his eyes are countless Ṛg Vedas; his arms and feet are the Yajur Veda. Though hidden, he is ever manifest and moving, his purpose unfailing. Gracious and approachable, he possesses a beautiful vision. He is helpful and beloved by all, golden and radiant, the navel and giver of joy, existence itself, steadfast and dwelling in the lotus.
