He is the one who dries up sorrow and removes afflictions, fierce and formidable, with a hard and harsh form, yet compassionate and wise. Hunchbacked and intelligent, he is both the object and subject of meditation—a treasure of wisdom and mercy. He dwells in the farthest reaches, subduing all, abiding in the heavens as protector and impartial giver, pure and transcendent, versed in the Vedas, unconquerable and ageless, with matted hair crowning his timeless form. He is the very life of all beings, conqueror of enemies, pervading the universe as its subtle essence. Golden-hued and lotus-eyed, he is without beginning. Radiant and liberating, he is a counselor and refuge for countless mantras. His essence is the five elements; he wields five arrows and bears five faces. He is the fifth, the last, and the first—complete, with hair adorned and curly, hard-hearted yet graceful in intent, his neck adorned. His mind is restless, his nose broad; he embodies the cycles of month, fortnight, and season. Constant and swift-moving, he is righteous, virtuous, beloved of the celestials, and fire-like in brilliance. He is Agastya, the sage who swallowed the worlds, the remover of impurities, oceanic in depth, giver of heaven, beautiful-eyed and joyful, worshipped by the virtuous. Lord of Sati, impartial, straightforward as Sanaka, a god dear to the gods, lord of wealth, Indra, and worshipped by the wealthy. He bestows wealth and riches, kingly and lotus-eyed, giver of memory, adorned with the Krittika stars. Among the Ashvins, he is horse-faced and pure, beloved of Bharani, seated in Krittika, Rohini, and Rohana, with the sandals of Rohana. Worshipped by the Ribhus, he destroys enemies and enchants Rohini, immortal king of deer, deer-headed, sweet-voiced, and lord of spring. His face is moist, his intellect vast, adorned with mighty serpents. Wealth flows at the movement of his fierce brows; he is ever-creative. He is again a god, again a conqueror, again a living being, again a treasure—he is a partridge, the banner of darkness, destroyer of those who move in darkness. He is Tiṣya, bearer of the scales, subduer of pride, lord of antelopes, giver of honor, related to Mādhava, associated with Māgha, eloquent and comparable to Maghavan. Pure and dear to the Maghā constellation, cloud-like, great-headed, strong-armed, abundant with Pūrvaphālgunī and Uttaraphālgunī. He is frothy, the bestower of Brahman, Brahmā himself, refuge of the seven threads; his hand is like an elephant’s trunk, four-handed, elephant-faced, wielding a plough. Adorned with wondrous garments, worshipped at his feet, self-enjoyed, of immense form, he is Viśākha, served by the peacock, brother to the peacock-bannered one. Subtle as an atom, abundant in powers, minute, son of dust, a man, dear to Anurādhā, worshipped, prosperous, bright, with a pure smile. The eldest, worshipped by the best, root of the three worlds, teacher, pure, associated with Pūrvāṣāḍhā and Uttarāṣāḍhā, Lord of all. He is worthy of being heard, victorious, of infinite nature, renowned, who made the demons tremble; associated with Śrāvaṇa, the listener, wealthy, fortunate, connected with Dhaniṣṭhā. He removes heat, the golden one, hundred-rayed, healer of hundreds, presiding over Purvabhadrapada and Uttarabhadrapada. He is the son of Renuka, Rama, beloved of Revati, delightful, yoked with horses, worshipped by Kartikeya, presiding over Margashirsha, best among deer. Hero of Pushya, soul of Phalguna, springtime, adorned with Chitra, honey, giver of sovereignty, self of Abhijit, lord of the stars, radiant as the stars. Renowned, purified, beloved, supreme, beneficent, destroyer of others, composed of the five elements and the fivefold breath, worthy of worship, supreme greatness. He is fit to know the ancient scriptures and Āgamas, the buffalo, the ass, the foremost leader, the crocodile, the ram, the bull, the slow one, god of love, worshipped by couples. He is the bearer of Kalki, the bracelet, the afflicted, the monkey, the crab, the compassionate, the rooster, born in the forest, the swan, the supreme swan, the jackal. The lion, seated on a lion-throne, the mouse, the deluder, rider of the mouse, giver of sons, savior from hell, beloved by maidens, uplifter of families. Of incomparable form, giver of strength, bearer of the scales, impartial witness, bearer of the unstrung bow, archer, the tortoise, the makara, the jewel. Steadfast and sovereign, performer of great deeds, enjoyer of great pleasures and renown, bearer of the form of wealth, swift, destroyer of demons, vanquisher of Yama. Foremost among gods, leader of hosts, lotus-eyed, of great intellect, adorned with armlets and earrings, fond of devotion, increaser of devotion. Bestower of mastery over the hosts, possessor of illusion, knower of Vedas and Vedanta, son of Katyayani, worshipped by Brahma, destroyer of obstacles. He destroys the fear of worldly existence, broad-chested, supporter of the earth, remover of obstacles, great-necked, exceedingly delighted by modaka sweets. Fond of Varanasi, dignified, profound, rider of the mouse, dweller in the cave, son of Vishnu’s daughter, bestower of place, steadfast. Supremely prosperous, satisfied, pure, crowned, dear to Vallabha, fond of the fourteenth day, worthy of honor, resolute, filled with vigor. Inconceivable, seated with lions, assuming the form of a child, steadfast, foremost among the powerful, endowed with great strength. He is the soul of all, benefactor, healer, of great belly and intellect, the means, remover of death, dispeller of all sin. He wields the thunderbolt, great slayer of demons, protector of the distressed, moving among spirits and ghosts, form of intelligence and mind. His body is ego, the Puruṣa of Sāṅkhya philosophy, nature of the three qualities, form of the subtle elements, soul of beings, essence of the senses, subduer. Beyond the three impurities, free from the three states of consciousness, formless yet with many forms, a celestial musician, possessing the might of serpents. He is the one-tusked, swift, commander of armies, lord of gods, creator of the universe, seed of the cosmos, the seven hundred, fortune, remover of wealth, steadfastness, and wisdom.
