Devouring those fierce Vaipracitta danavas, my teeth will become red, resembling pomegranate blossoms.
Then, gods in heaven and humans on earth will always praise me as Raktadantika.
Again, when there is a drought lasting a hundred years and no water, praised by the sages upon the earth, I shall be born, not from a womb.
Then, with a hundred eyes, I shall look upon those sages; and people will praise me as Shatakshi, the Hundred-Eyed.
After that, I shall sustain the entire world with vegetables produced from my own body, O gods, as life-sustaining food during the drought.
Then I shall become renowned on earth as Shakambhari; and there itself I shall slay the great demon named Durgama. My name there will become famous as Durga Devi.
Again, when I assume a terrifying form on the Himalaya, I shall devour the rakshasas for the protection of the virtuous.
Then all the sages, with heads bowed, will praise me; and my name will become renowned as Bhima Devi.
When the one named Aruna brings great distress to the three worlds, then I will assume the form of a swarm of bees, countless in number.
For the welfare of the three worlds, I will slay that great demon, and at that time, all will praise me everywhere as Bhramari.
Thus, whenever affliction arises caused by demons, then and there I will descend and bring about the destruction of the enemies.
The Goddess said: Whoever, with focused mind, praises me daily with these hymns, I will surely destroy all his troubles, without doubt.
And those who recount the destruction of Madhu and Kaitabha, the slaying of Mahishasura, and likewise the killing of Shumbha and Nishumbha—
And those who, with single-minded devotion, praise my supreme glory on the eighth, fourteenth, or ninth day—
For them, there will be no evil deed, nor any misfortune arising from evil deeds; there will be no poverty, nor separation from what is desired.
There will be no fear for them from enemies, nor from thieves, nor from rulers; nor will there ever be danger from weapons, fire, or floods.
Therefore, this glory of mine should be recited by my devotees, and always heard with devotion, for it is the highest and greatest means of well-being.
My glory dispels all obstacles, even those arising from great epidemics, as well as the threefold calamities.
Where this is properly recited daily in my temple, I will never abandon that place; my presence is established there.
At the offering of oblations, during worship, at fire rituals, and at great festivals, my entire story should be recited and heard.
Whether knowingly or unknowingly, if offerings and worship have been performed for me, I shall accept them with delight, as well as any fire oblations that have been made.
During autumn, when the great worship or the annual festival is performed, whoever listens to this account of my greatness with devotion—
—by my grace, that person will be freed from all afflictions and endowed with wealth and grain; there is no doubt about this.
Having heard this account of my greatness and the auspicious stories of my origins, as well as my valor in battles, a man becomes fearless.
Enemies are destroyed, auspiciousness arises, and the family of those who listen to my greatness rejoices.
In all rites for peace, in cases of distressing dreams, and in severe afflictions caused by planets, one should listen to my greatness.
Afflictions subside, and the harsh torments of planets are calmed; for people who have seen bad dreams, good dreams arise.
For children afflicted by malevolent influences, it brings peace; and in cases of discord among people, it brings about supreme harmony.
For all those of wicked conduct, it greatly diminishes their strength; and by merely reciting it, it destroys demons, spirits, and ghouls.
With offerings of animals, flowers, precious substances, incense, and the finest perfumes and lamps, and with meals for Brahmins and vessels of gold, day and night, one should perform sprinkling rites.
